How CHAZ became CHOP: Seattle’s police-free zone explained

“People can now freely walk in the area, which has been covered with signs, murals, memorials and different types of art. The day after police left, protesters put up a sign on the East Precinct, now boarded up, that reads: “This space is now property of the Seattle people.” In recent days, protesters have been advocating for turning the precinct into a community center, even as SPD’s police chief has said officers want to return to the building.”

After enabling criminal conduct, WSP will no longer enable criminal conduct:

“Blocking a freeway is a crime and no longer are we going to enable that criminal conduct to continue,” said State Patrol Capt. Ron Mead, who made the decision to no longer close the interstate. “We are not going to be allowing protesters to access the freeway unimpeded, and there are consequences for criminal conduct.”

State Patrol had shut down the interstate 19 nights in a row in response to protests, said Capt. Mead, who oversees the agency’s district that includes King County. For weeks, troopers operated in response to protesters’ movements, shutting down a stretch of the interstate when it looked as if protesters would enter the roadway.”

The Governor makes a priority of telling the people of WA that they may not order a beer after 10 p.m.

I would prefer that state and local authorities maintain public safety.

When they fail, or don’t even seem to try, it is understandable that people would want the federal government to get involved.

You don’t have to look too far to find comments that refer to the troops as “heroes.”

Some are.

No one who has done time in an average military unit would be comfortable with everyone present being called a hero. Some units would be the exception, but for most people who have done time over the years, calling everyone a hero would have no connection to reality.

Reality, and an honest understanding of why we send The Troops to far away places isn’t what we’re about though.

Reaching for an honest understanding of US foreign policy makes more sense than “Thanks for your service.”

On occaision, I roll up to my favorite fast food drive drive-through for a bite.

The staff is friendly & efficient.

The cashier, who is wearing gloves and constantly handling cash, coins, and credit or debit cards, also stuffs the napkins into the bag before it goes out to the customer.

In this time of increased awareness Re: hand washing, hand sanitizer, constant reminders on TV and on the web, this seems a little odd.

I am not a health inspector, medical professional, restaurant manager, etc.

I’m just the average person who notices.

Seems strange that the people who are paid to notice do not seem to notice.

I’m reading that he is not supported by WA GOP. Not really sure why.

“You want more evidence? No problem. About a month ago, there was a huge media commotion about “irresponsible” outdoor parties at Missouri’s Lake of the Ozarks (see picture below from the famous “party cove”. Several media outlets promised a huge uptick in COVID-19 cases.”

Americans were never meant to agree on matters of a personal nature. This is why we have so many different churches here and people who opt out on attending services.

Yes.

As soon as such a policy was announced-mainstream news and social media networks would put the word out & the business would suffer immediate consequences-unlike legal action that may take years to develop.

Freedom Fest fireworks display set for July 4th

A pandemic will not prevent KAIT and the Jonesboro Radio Group from celebrating our country’s independence.

The annual Freedom Fest Fireworks Display will be held Saturday, July 4, at the Southside Softball Complex in Jonesboro.

The event, according to a news release, has been described as “the biggest free fireworks display in the state” of Arkansas.”

Who are the Patriots on the Fourth?

by Jacob G. Hornberger

“On the Fourth of July, American statists will be praising the troops, glorifying their exploits in foreign countries, thanking them for defending our rights and freedoms, and expressing thanks to federal officials for taking care of them with Social Security, Medicare, Medicaid, education grants, farm subsidies, drug laws, and the myriad other programs that come with America’s welfare-warfare state.”

“First, let’s get one thing clear: contrary to popular opinion, the men who signed the Declaration of Independence were not great and courageous Americans. That’s an important fact to keep in mind. The reason? They weren’t Americans. They were British citizens, no different from British citizens today. The only difference was that they were living abroad, much as many American citizens live abroad today.”

“Thus, the people who were fighting in the Revolutionary War were not supporting the troops. They weren’t thanking and glorifying them for defending their rights and freedoms. Instead, they were shooting at them and killing them. They had taken up arms against their very own government.”

All over the US, faux July 4th celebrations of freedom & liberty were the norm, even before the current news Re: COVID-19.

The idea that sending hometown troops to Africa would be linked in any way with keeping the people of Salisbury Maryland safe and free calls for more discussion.

“However, the committee has found that contingency plans must be invoked to conform to safe practices guidelines and has updated its plans and activities that would have involved large gatherings are cancelled.”

Gallipolis, Ohio

Local authorities dictate a one hour window for trick-or-treat time 2019. For some reason, Halloween will be observed exactly one week in advance of October 31st.

Your family will start at 5:30 and be done for the year at 6:30 p.m.

“The Gallipolis Police Department recently announced times for Trick-or-Treat set for the Gallipolis.”

“The annual event will be from 5:30 to 6:30 p.m., Thursday, Oct. 24. All drivers are reminded to be cautious and drive slowly throughout the community.”

When I was a child in the 1970s, local authorities and elected officials played no role in telling families when trick or treating would begin or end.

County may ask to move to Phase 3 next week

“Island County Public Health Director Keith Higman told commissioners at a meeting last week that the county can make the request as early as June 13.”

“Under Phase 3, restrictions meant to prevent the spread of COVID-19 will be further loosened. Gatherings of up to 50 people will be allowed, restaurants can move to 75 percent capacity, bars can open at 25 percent and movie theaters can open at 50 percent capacity.”

“Higman said camping in the county will need to be addressed in Phase 3. The state would have allowed it under Phase 2, but officials were worried about overuse since camping in adjacent counties was still closed at the time.”

I went to the US Post Office in Oak Harbor earlier today to take care of some business inside at the customer service desk. Only 7 people are allowed in that part of the building, so the waiting line begins out in the area adjacent to where the PO boxes are located. When it was my turn to go in, I was asked if I had a mask. I said I did not have one. A nice lady in line ahead of me gave me one.

Never saw anything in our local paper about masks being required at the post office. Did I miss it?

A trip to the state park might be a chance to leave the pressures of the world behind for an hour or two.

Preemptive warning notices will snap your mind back to reality before you even start your visit at the park.

As I have posted earlier, the parks are not new to me. I have been visiting Washington State Parks in the Puget Sound area since the 70s. Today’s parks are much more about a culture of warnings and enforcement than they were in the old days. Driving over to the local state park these days is like asking permission to enter a military base. Stop and show your parking pass before you arrive at the parking area. Listen to a reminder to display your parking pass so that you will not get a ticket. Am I on a third grade field trip?

This was true prior to the current news Re: COVID-19.

Let’s get out on the trail:

I enjoy the occaisional trip to get fast food. I’m glad these places are open.

Normal food handler protocols are OK with me, even now.

A new TV ad campaign promotes touch free service at the drive thru.

Old protocol:

Staff member hands over a sack of food to customer, after customer pays with cash, coin, or card.

New protocol:

Staff member places sack of food on tray and extends tray towards customer, so that customer may take sack of food from tray.

Does the tray kill germs?

In some cases the person who placed the sack of food on the tray is also the cashier.

The cashier is constantly handling cash, coins, and credit or debit cards.

None of this will keep me away. Just wondering how many TV viewers see the magic tray as a plus.

There is a parking area just outside this gate at Fort Ebey. The parking area outside the gate (on State Parks land) remains open & unrestricted. Access to trails from this parking area remains open & unrestricted.
