Law enforcement authorities in the US have limited powers away from border crossings and ports of entry.

In a free society- young people would understand this prior to graduating from high school.

It would be as well understood as memorizing a pledge to a flag.

Nothing about this knowledge is about being disrespectful or interfering with law enforcement operations.

Limited powers to compel anyone to answer questions- unlike TV crime shows.

Limited powers to conduct searches:

Limited powers to restrict people who are operating a camera in a public place.

Authoritarian airport CEO shut down by the law after he orders camera to be shut off-

No permission, application process, permits, insurance policy or ID required.

“Police Commissioner Ray Kelly: Weekend heroin bust impossible without stop-and-frisk”

Weekend heroin bust impossible without DHS failing to keep heroin out of the US-

Heroin traffickers are frequently successful at what they do. If terrorists were just as interested in entering the US- it appears that federal departments and agencies would have no way to stop them.

Think terrorists are smart enough to pose as heroin traffickers- then cross into the US free of screening, scanning, pat downs, special IDs, inspection of personal items, etc.

It takes time to mastermind a centrally planned economy-

Board seeks additional time in crafting rules for legal pot

Step Saver:

Law enforcement resources should be used to go after individuals who are harming others- not for policing arbitrary pre-crime scenarios.

Background:

Update:

After extensive meetings and hearings over many months time- The Black Market has ruled that sales of untaxed product will continue to move forward- just as in years past.

Probably even more than in years past because after the election- county prosecutors decided not to wait on meeting results involving Governor Gregoire & the federal government, Drug Czar approval, twelve months to plan rules on sales and retail infrastructure, etc.

Nov 2012-

Prosecutors in large and small counties in Washington are throwing out marijuana cases involving untaxed product that were pending prior to election day:

Congressman Reichert on supporting legal pot: ‘I can’t do it’

Background:

Washington I-502

Congressman Reichert,

What does this tell young people about voting on election day?

How does each vote count when federal representatives do not support state election outcomes?

Congressman Reichert,

It took a constitutional amendment to prohibit the sale of a glass of wine- why no constitutional amendment to authorize a federal war on drugs, drug czar, prohibition of marijuana, etc.

Smaller government & the Constitution- right up until somebody wants to grow a marijuana plant in the back yard, shut down undeclared wars overseas or marry the lover of their choice.

The freedom talk is just for federal holidays and overseas military operations.

Please see this essay by Congressman Reichert:

Sharing Freedom’s Stories

The black market favors prohibition, high taxes & complicated regulations-

Study: Nearly 40 percent of cigs in Washington are contraband

Preserving a free society, free markets, free trade, private property rights, & a minimal bureaucracy where SWAT raids are used to go after adults who want to grow a marijuana plant in the back yard.

Law enforcement resources should be used to go after individuals who are harming others- not for policing arbitrary pre-crime scenarios.

Standing by for federal authorities to tell the people of Washington State what they are permitted to do with marijuana-

6 Hanford tanks are leaking nuclear waste, Inslee says

A powerful central government knows what’s best for each one of us.

How about legal anti-depression meds that may bring on thoughts of suicide (0:34)

Government permissions, authorizations, permits, and applications for marijuana should be no more complicated than those required to use a glass of wine.

Look for the drug war to remain in place-

Random thoughts:

Typical protocol for local training involves a working relationship with the press. The US Navy seems to understand this:

Anti-terrorism drill set at Indian Island next week

Navy plans oil spill drill in Port Townsend Bay on Thursday

Upcoming exercise helps keep security forces in shape

Comments following the PDN article above & several days of reporting that followed-

If the US was turned into one giant military base it looks like many would be OK with that.

Several posts indicating that the event was no big deal & that people should be thankful for the sound of freedom/missions meant to keep us safe.

Very little in the way of questioning anything related to military forces which have been elevated to a higher status in American culture since the big 911 failure.

The US Armed Forces were irrelevant in defending American rights and freedoms, our physical security, & The Constitution on 911.

Ditto for all other federal agencies and departments.

We’re not in the habit of winning decades of undeclared wars overseas- why would we think they have any bearing on American rights and freedoms?

One or two comments scolding others and reminding them that their right to post comments is protected by the people wearing a uniform.

Americans wouldn’t have the freedom to post comments on newspaper websites if people had not given their lives in Iraq and Afghanistan to protect that freedom?

Hey school teachers- where did this idea come from? Were US troops sent to Vietnam so that Americans could be free to send letters to the editor?

Is there any case in which the US Armed Forces have been sent to distant lands on a mission to protect freedom of speech?

Is protecting freedom of speech even part of training scenarios?

If The Troops are fighting for your freedom to share ideas on the web why would you be scolded for doing so?

One or two comments indicating that the Army must do training.

The US has huge holdings of federal land set aside for military operations such as bombing ranges, missile ranges, combat training centers, The Yakima Training CenterMCAGCC, etc.

One or two comments saying – back in my home town- we’re proud to be near military operational zones, etc.

The training is meant to keep us safe?

I still haven’t been able to figure out how the War on Terror works.

“THIS WHOLE LEGAL MARIJUANA BUSINESS IS REALLY, REALLY BAD FOR THE ENVIRONMENT”

If prohibition was ended- anybody could grow marijuana or bring it home from places where it grows outdoors.

This is not about to happen.

Shortcut for policy makers:

Law enforcement resources should be used to go after individuals who are harming others- not for policing arbitrary pre-crime scenarios.

Prediction- untaxed marijuana will continue to be available in all 50 states. Masterminding a centrally planned economy will not change this.

Black market update:

Study: Nearly 40 percent of cigs in Washington are contraband

Pro Drug War/federal grant money TV spot:

Will marijuana legalization lead to more violence in Wash. state?

Violence is linked to prohibition. Medical marijuana has been here since 1998. Have legal medical marijuana operations caused violence?

Do agricultural practices linked to beer and wine production cause violence?

This is what prohibition looks like:

“U.S. Border Patrol agent pleads guilty to smuggling 147 pounds marijuana while on duty”

Allowing legal, domestic production of marijuana would serve to eliminate a portion of distraction and potential corruption at the border- but we can’t have that in a free society.

It took a constitutional amendment to prohibit the sale of a glass of wine- why no constitutional amendment to authorize a federal war on drugs, drug czar, prohibition of marijuana, etc.

Port Angeles man gets 20 months for selling heroin

If the Border Patrol has the manpower to establish a 50 agent station at Port Angeles- how does heroin get into the US?

“According to reports from the U.S. Department of Justice National Drug Intelligence Center and U.S. Drug Enforcement Administration officials interviewed by the Tribune, meth became harder to produce in Mexico, so the cartels and their gangs turned to producing heroin. Needing a distribution route into the western U.S., the Mexican gangs chose the Interstate 5 corridor.”

JFK speaks about the role of the press in a free society-

Violence associated with heroin distribution and abuse is a concern to law enforcement officials. Mexican black tar heroin is the predominant type available in the state.”

“Heroin trafficking is at the core of the Mexican cartels,” he said. “It isn’t sexy. It isn’t pretty. But they’ve been moving heroin for decades, and they make money at it.”

I know hemp will not solve all problems. I know there have been some attempts to move forward with legalization, but mostly hemp seems to be seen as scary and controversial.

How bad do things get before politicians consider allowing people to go with free enterprise?

Career politicians- elected by both major parties- speak of their jobs programs & initiatives to deal with clean energy & the economy as their system collapses. Politicians standing in the way of hemp cultivation have no credibility.

DSC_0005_007

I worked for a full school year (2003-2004) as a lunchroom cashier at a Kitsap County junior high school.

Both my nieces have attended this school.

Students were not allowed to use the lockers which were purchased and installed when the school was built. I saw students coming through the lunch line with backpacks and- at times- musical instruments- holding a plate of chow and digging in a pocket for lunch money- the force of gravity pulling against their effort to behave in a businesslike manner. I wondered why the items they were toting weren’t stored in school lockers.

My sense is that the lockers were off-limits because there was a potential for storage of unsafe or illegal items. If the lockers were off-limits for everyone, there would be no locker incidents during the school year.

The school I was at had a sheriff’s deputy on site, so they didn’t have to guess at appropriate security procedures, or go without law enforcement resources.

Banning the use of lockers meant not having to manage the use of lockers. Banning the use of lockers meant teaching students that good citizens and troublemakers are to be treated the same- thereby removing consequences and incentives for individual behavior.

The Message-

Learn the system students and parents- “Because I said so” is the way things are going to be around here. One size fits all- guilty until proven innocent- get used to it.

If I was Principal-

I would have a meeting with the school’s sheriff’s deputy to discuss my plan for use of the lockers- an asset provided to the school via tax dollars. The lockers create an opportunity to teach responsibility which can pay off later in life.

I would have a meeting with parents a few days prior to the beginning of each school year. I would say that we expect all of our students to be good citizens. Good citizens enjoy privileges and responsibilities like the use of school lockers. Good citizens will not give up their privileges because of the actions or potential actions of troublemakers. I would introduce the school’s sheriff’s deputy and indicate that his salary is being paid in order to maintain a professional and safe environment at the school. I would explain to parents that any student found to be misusing or storing illegal items in a locker- or using a locker in such a way as to risk the safety of others- would be dealt with swiftly, and that misbehavior in this area would not be tolerated. I would then take questions from parents.

On the first day of school each year, I would address all students and deliver the same message. I would let students know that the policy comes with one warning, and that they have each had their warning. I would then take questions from students.

Junior high students are smart. Treating them like second class citizens isn’t the right way to get them started.

P.S.- Why issue photo ID badges to school district employees if- wearing the badges is optional, and no spot checks are ever conducted to make sure the badge is matched with the person who is authorized to wear it? Security Theater.

Students are aware of the examples of leadership they are presented with.

Americans are winners- We expect a high standard.
