Weekend heroin bust impossible without DHS failing to keep heroin out of the US-
Heroin traffickers are frequently successful at what they do. If terrorists were just as interested in entering the US- it appears that federal departments and agencies would have no way to stop them.
Think terrorists are smart enough to pose as heroin traffickers- then cross into the US free of screening, scanning, pat downs, special IDs, inspection of personal items, etc.
After extensive meetings and hearings over many months time- The Black Market has ruled that sales of untaxed product will continue to move forward- just as in years past.
Probably even more than in years past because after the election- county prosecutors decided not to wait on meeting results involving Governor Gregoire & the federal government, Drug Czar approval, twelve months to plan rules on sales and retail infrastructure, etc.
Nov 2012-
Prosecutors in large and small counties in Washington are throwing out marijuana cases involving untaxed product that were pending prior to election day:
What does this tell young people about voting on election day?
How does each vote count when federal representatives do not support state election outcomes?
Congressman Reichert,
It took a constitutional amendment to prohibit the sale of a glass of wine- why no constitutional amendment to authorize a federal war on drugs, drug czar, prohibition of marijuana, etc.
Smaller government & the Constitution- right up until somebody wants to grow a marijuana plant in the back yard, shut down undeclared wars overseas or marry the lover of their choice.
The freedom talk is just for federal holidays and overseas military operations.
A powerful central government knows what’s best for each one of us.
How about legal anti-depression meds that may bring on thoughts of suicide (0:34)
Government permissions, authorizations, permits, and applications for marijuana should be no more complicated than those required to use a glass of wine.
As always– the big law enforcement success story comes with zero reporting or questions from newspeople about why the proud War on Terror is unable to keep heroin out of the US.
Welcome Home Troops
Thanks for your service

If the US was turned into one giant military base it looks like many would be OK with that.
Several posts indicating that the event was no big deal & that people should be thankful for the sound of freedom/missions meant to keep us safe.
Very little in the way of questioning anything related to military forces which have been elevated to a higher status in American culture since the big 911 failure.
The US Armed Forces were irrelevant in defending American rights and freedoms, our physical security, & The Constitution on 911.
Ditto for all other federal agencies and departments.
We’re not in the habit of winning decades of undeclared wars overseas- why would we think they have any bearing on American rights and freedoms?
One or two comments scolding others and reminding them that their right to post comments is protected by the people wearing a uniform.
Americans wouldn’t have the freedom to post comments on newspaper websites if people had not given their lives in Iraq and Afghanistan to protect that freedom?
Hey school teachers- where did this idea come from? Were US troops sent to Vietnam so that Americans could be free to send letters to the editor?
Is there any case in which the US Armed Forces have been sent to distant lands on a mission to protect freedom of speech?
Is protecting freedom of speech even part of training scenarios?
If The Troops are fighting for your freedom to share ideas on the web why would you be scolded for doing so?
One or two comments indicating that the Army must do training.
One or two comments saying – back in my home town- we’re proud to be near military operational zones, etc.
The training is meant to keep us safe?
I still haven’t been able to figure out how the War on Terror works.

“The sheriff’s office seized more than $2.2 million cash in September 2011 after a months long investigation into a Mexican drug cartel with connections to Dalton, Ga.”
“The DEA said it found two Mexico-based trafficking cells in the Atlanta area, while other cells operated in Laredo, Texas; McAllen, Texas; San Antonio; Greensboro, N.C.,; Raleigh, N.C.; Newark, N.J.; and Chicago. Atlanta was the primary distribution point.”

Newspeople-
Newspeople give heroin traffickers a pass.
A heroin problem in a local community results in tearful and emotional coverage.
Zero reporting on why post 911 security protocols fail to keep heroin out of the US.
Newspeople avoid asking tough questions about heroin traffickers.
Domestic heroin trafficking makes a mockery of all war on terror crime fighting efforts, tactics, tools, & technologies.
911 should have been a drug trafficker’s worst nightmare. The US Dept. of Homeland Security- a whole new federal department- was created to stop terrorists and prevent another 911.
Why hasn’t the Department of Homeland Security been able to keep heroin out of the US?
Don’t worry-
The Super Bowl and public affairs will be safe-
Many people have risked their ass in far off lands to keep terrorists from visiting the homeland.
Love to see a reporter ask The Joint Chiefs of Staff how all that can be justified while the US Dept. of Homeland Security is unable keep heroin out of the US.
We are told the #1 US Border Patrol objective is to stop terrorists.
The US Border Patrol explains this objective at a local public forum- this YouTube video covers Border Patrol objectives at 3:50

Alternative media- happening on this side of the pay wall:
Operating a camera in a public place.
Heroin flows in while folks with cameras get hassled-

What role do 1,200-horsepower Border Patrol Interceptor boats play in keeping heroin away from the Olympic Peninsula?

Some will say- if the US Border Patrol at Port Angeles was left alone to do its job- priorities would be properly addressed.
Under the old rules- to include suspicionless checkpoints & bus boardings- away from border crossings and ports of entry, language interpretation for the US Forest Service, language translation for local law enforcement agencies, and full, pre-sequestration funding- has the Border Patrol at Port Angeles stopped any heroin from entering the US?

Maybe it’s time for investigative journalists to make appointments, schedule interviews and ask some questions. Suggested topics here: News tip/story idea
If no answers are available, please do a story describing the working relationship you have with the Washington State Patrol, local sheriffs departments and city police departments. Any denied FOIA requests generated by these agencies? Please compare to the Border Patrol at Port Angeles.

Allowing legal, domestic production of marijuana would serve to eliminate a portion of distraction and potential corruption at the border- but we can’t have that in a free society.

Domestic heroin trafficking continues to serve as a US Dept. of Homeland Security report card-
I always wonder how a traffic stop- away from border crossings and ports of entry- turns into a search of the vehicle.
At the border- the drug traffickers must be operating properly maintained vehicles.

If you have ever smoked marijuana- you are not welcome here- forever:
“Saunders also said some people who answer honestly a customs officer’s question whether or not they’ve ever smoked marijuana could also be turned away from crossing the border forever, unless they apply for and receive a waiver.”
Though this is a federal issue- state governors and the senators and congresspeople we send to Washington DC are free to work to influence the federal government in this area.
& see where savings are available to pay fees for healthcare earned by people who volunteered to go to far away places and maybe never come back again.
“The total amount of funds unaccounted for has now reached a staggering $7 billion, officials say — and they warn that the Iraqi government is likely to demand at least some of that money back.”
Elected officials preside over waste & decades of ongoing, undeclared wars overseas- then tell us there is no more money for the traditional DOD military healthcare benefits that were used to entice people to stay for multiple tours in Iraq and Afghanistan.
No union rep. No grandfather clause.
Many Americans may associate free medical care with people who stay for 20 years in the US Armed Forces.
Recommendation-
Insert language into recruiting literature and enlistment documents stating that rules concerning benefits may change at any time & that no definite benefit package will be provided in exchange for 20 years of unrestricted worldwide service. No grandfather clause will apply. Have unit leaders refer to this disclaimer when promoting retention drives, giving re-enlistment speeches, etc.
Stop spending federal money on meaningless support the troops promotions, campaigns and VIP photo ops that are not connected in any way with public policy.
Instant, non-experimental jobs program/revenue generator requiring zero tax dollars-
Allow U.S. farmers to answer the global demand for Industrial Hemp.
Both major parties are OK with decades of ongoing, undeclared wars overseas, the drug war, and a homeland security police state that can’t keep heroin out of the US.
The train is running off the tracks. Every day it is something new:
Not too long ago- it was election season & we heard much talk about clean energy, jobs, the economy, etc.
How is it possible to take elected officials seriously on this?
Instant, non-experimental jobs program/revenue generator requiring zero tax dollars-
Allow U.S. farmers to answer the global demand for Industrial Hemp.
I know hemp will not solve all problems. I know there have been some attempts to move forward with legalization, but mostly hemp seems to be seen as scary and controversial.
How bad do things get before politicians consider allowing people to go with free enterprise?
Career politicians- elected by both major parties- speak of their jobs programs & initiatives to deal with clean energy & the economy as their system collapses. Politicians standing in the way of hemp cultivation have no credibility.

We are told the #1 US Border Patrol objective is to stop terrorists. The US Border Patrol explains this objective at a local public forum- this YouTube video covers Border Patrol objectives at 3:50:
I worked for a full school year (2003-2004) as a lunchroom cashier at a Kitsap County junior high school.
Both my nieces have attended this school.
Students were not allowed to use the lockers which were purchased and installed when the school was built. I saw students coming through the lunch line with backpacks and- at times- musical instruments- holding a plate of chow and digging in a pocket for lunch money- the force of gravity pulling against their effort to behave in a businesslike manner. I wondered why the items they were toting weren’t stored in school lockers.
My sense is that the lockers were off-limits because there was a potential for storage of unsafe or illegal items. If the lockers were off-limits for everyone, there would be no locker incidents during the school year.
The school I was at had a sheriff’s deputy on site, so they didn’t have to guess at appropriate security procedures, or go without law enforcement resources.
Banning the use of lockers meant not having to manage the use of lockers. Banning the use of lockers meant teaching students that good citizens and troublemakers are to be treated the same- thereby removing consequences and incentives for individual behavior.
The Message-
Learn the system students and parents- “Because I said so” is the way things are going to be around here. One size fits all- guilty until proven innocent- get used to it.
If I was Principal-
I would have a meeting with the school’s sheriff’s deputy to discuss my plan for use of the lockers- an asset provided to the school via tax dollars. The lockers create an opportunity to teach responsibility which can pay off later in life.
I would have a meeting with parents a few days prior to the beginning of each school year. I would say that we expect all of our students to be good citizens. Good citizens enjoy privileges and responsibilities like the use of school lockers. Good citizens will not give up their privileges because of the actions or potential actions of troublemakers. I would introduce the school’s sheriff’s deputy and indicate that his salary is being paid in order to maintain a professional and safe environment at the school. I would explain to parents that any student found to be misusing or storing illegal items in a locker- or using a locker in such a way as to risk the safety of others- would be dealt with swiftly, and that misbehavior in this area would not be tolerated. I would then take questions from parents.
On the first day of school each year, I would address all students and deliver the same message. I would let students know that the policy comes with one warning, and that they have each had their warning. I would then take questions from students.
Junior high students are smart. Treating them like second class citizens isn’t the right way to get them started.
P.S.- Why issue photo ID badges to school district employees if- wearing the badges is optional, and no spot checks are ever conducted to make sure the badge is matched with the person who is authorized to wear it? Security Theater.
Students are aware of the examples of leadership they are presented with.
