A private citizen response to a mainstream media that functions like paid actors reading a script.

Mainstream TV News

Private Citizen

Private citizens are stepping in and going out with a camera to see and document what is going on.

Instead of waiting for school teachers to teach about individual rights and limited government authority, waiting on the press to ask questions, or courts to handle cases, these guys go out and update us with a quick reality check.

Also not waiting on the overthrow of Saddam Hussein or the take down of the next bad guy in distant lands, as DOD defends the constitution, etc.

Videos recorded at or outside of sites that are funded by the public seem to be best for documenting these issues.

Any TV newsperson could go out and educate the public on their rights/public official’s obligation to provide info, etc. That does not happen.

Mainstream Press

In recent years, the press tends to support government agencies, departments and policies rather than question them.

The small papers will say they need more support from subscribers and advertising dollars or cash from the federal government to stay alive. All this because COVID or the internet or lack of newspaper sales, or a free and independent press that needs taxpayer support.

People who take no public funds, private donations or advertising dollars are free to ask questions at any time. Why not the press? Call for unpaid volunteers and you’d get better news coverage than what we have now.

I’d be more interested in paying (again) for a local paper subscription if there was more in the way of newspeople asking questions.

Nick Shirley did a good job here, making the rounds and gathering content on what people wanted to say. There were people who shied away from questions here. In my view: If you are out to attract attention to a message or your cause- mission accomplished when someone takes notice and asks about it in a neutral way. This is your moment to deliver a free advertisement for yourself and your message.

This blog is not about any specific news event or development in distant lands. This blog is about the general trend of newspeople not asking questions over the past 30 years or so.

Love to see the US mainstream press show some initiative and curiosity in asking questions.

The US could use more questions coming from small and large newspapers, and from TV newspeople.

Some suggestions on where to start:

Today – Mainstream US media functions like paid actors reading a script.

Americans do not live in a free and honest society when the mainstream media functions like paid actors reading a script:

Would any newsperson ever ask:

Did the advantage of US air power allow the undeclared wars in Iraq or Afghanistan to be prevented, won or shut down?

US jet aircraft have been able to strike targets in what wars won by the US?

Currently serving four-star officers and high level DOD civilians have been associated with what wars won by the US?

Has dressing women to look like men had any positive or negative impact on recruiting?

Washington Democrats propose ban on gas-powered landscaping equipment: ‘Not going to work’

“Lawmakers would establish temporary sales and use tax relief and a temporary grant program to accelerate the transition to electric-powered machinery.”

“However, workers have questioned the bill’s practicality.”

“Electric chainsaws are not going to work for our industry,” Washington Contract Loggers Association executive director Jerry Bonagofsky told the Capital Press. “What you see out there may work for homeowners, possibly some light landscaping, but for commercial operations, it’s not going to be efficient enough or productive enough.”

Credit to KOMO for allowing comments here.

From comments:

If electric machinery was truly more powerful and more efficient, professional landscapers would already be using them without being asked. Who’s providing these politicians with false information?

A move by WA elected officials to ban gas powered equipment doesn’t seem to fit with a society that can’t stop bragging about freedom, thanking the troops for freedoms, fighting wars for freedoms, staging military jet flyovers at sporting events for freedom, etc.

Today, sports culture is where the free and independent press is alive and well.

Think of an NFL game. Coaches and quarterbacks face the press after every game and answer questions, win or lose.

No press secretary. No public relations spokesperson. No freedom of information act requests. No classified documents.

Instant replays, commentary in the broadcast booth, analysis from network studios, sports talk radio, etc. Fans get tons of info all of the time. No chance for conspiracy theories to develop. Missed calls by NFL officials may be discussed for weeks on end. No such thing as: “We can’t comment on an ongoing investigation.” Instant replay is for all to see. Sports writers are OK with being critical of coaches, teams, players, the rule book, the league, referees, team owners, when the season starts and ends, etc. This is what a free and independent press looks like. Go ahead and have sports writers cover public policy, Homeland Security and US Dept. of Defense news and I’m good with that.

In recent years, the press tends to support government agencies, departments and policies rather than question them.

Rigging the Primaries for Biden/Harris Has a Serious Drawback

W.J. Astore

Iowa and New Hampshire get sidelined in the cause of propping up Joe Biden

“If the DNC had kept the old schedule of Iowa and NH, and Biden had performed poorly in both states, it would have allowed the DNC more notice and time to pivot, or perhaps to craft a message more appealing to voters. Privileging states that are expected to support Biden, in contrast, may breed overconfidence that his support remains strong and his candidacy remains viable against the clear Republican frontrunner, Trump.”

“If you really want to defeat Trump in November, you need the most rigorous vetting process for the Biden/Harris ticket. Rigging the primaries for Biden by deleting Democratic rivals from the ballot, as the DNC has done in Florida, North Carolina, and elsewhere, while effectively throwing out results in Iowa and NH, may ensure both that Biden/Harris win renomination and lose the general election in November.”

Currently serving four-star officers and high level DOD civilians have been associated with what wars won by the US?

Has dressing women to look like men had any positive or negative impact on recruiting?

Uncle Sam is having a hell of a time finding people to sign up for the US Armed Forces. Pretending that decades of undeclared/unwon wars are linked in any way with American freedoms is the kind of dishonesty that will snuff out the energy American families once had for encouraging young people to enlist.

Good luck with your US Armed Forces recruiting crisis.

To me, the most interesting people in politics are the people who are willing to question their chosen political party.

I am interested in living in a free and honest society. I the video below, Tucker Carlson and Jimmy Dore explain why things are not headed that way.

After 1:12 above, Carlson says: People aren’t joining the military because they don’t support the mission.

My take:

Decades after the lessons of Vietnam, it feels like the people who run the Pentagon specialize in undeclared/unwon wars.

Understandable why young people and their parents and grandparents would take a dim view on all this.

Four-star officers and high level DOD civilians built careers made of undeclared/unwon wars. Now they must mastermind ways to recruit a new generation.

Democracy, but not Biden, is on the ballot?
W.J. Astore

The bizarre opening weeks of the Democratic primary season

“Democracy, President Joe Biden has said, is on the ballot this year. But often his Democratic rivals won’t be on the ballot, nor is Biden himself officially on the ballot in New Hampshire in two weeks. (Indeed, the DNC refuses to sanction, i.e. support, the NH primary.) What gives?”

“Next week (1/15), the Iowa caucus for president is being held for Republicans and Democrats. Apparently, official results for Democrats won’t be available until March. Then there’s the famous New Hampshire primary, always the first in the country and this year on 1/23; Biden’s name isn’t even on the ballot for Democrats there.”

The first Democratic primary that apparently counts for the DNC is in South Carolina on 2/3. Why is that?

You’ll recall that in 2020 Biden lost the Iowa caucuses to Bernie Sanders and Pete Buttigieg. In New Hampshire in 2020, Biden came in a distant fifth. But he was able to win in South Carolina with a big push from Barack Obama and Congressman James Clyburn, a major powerbroker in SC, even as other candidates like Buttigieg were pressured to drop out and throw their support to Joe. (Buttigieg’s reward was a cabinet post as Secretary of Transportation for which he is eminently unqualified.)

The fix is in for Biden in 2024, to state the obvious. Iowa and New Hampshire are both being sidelined because the DNC knows Biden is vulnerable in these states. But South Carolina, the DNC believes, can be controlled, can be counted on for a decent showing for Old Joe. Thus South Carolina was moved up in the 2024 primary calendar precisely to demonstrate allegedly strong support for Joe.”

DNC moves forward with dramatic change to presidential primary calendar

Voter Demand Or Giant Political Machine Demand?

Dec 14, 2023 NPR

The New Hampshire primary is a little unusual for Democrats this year

Biden and the Democratic National Committee chose South Carolina to go first in the nominating process in 2024, breaking with tradition. But New Hampshire has a law requiring it to go first, so its primary is going ahead on Jan. 23. As a result of the dispute, the state’s delegates won’t be seated at the Democratic convention next summer and anyone who puts their name on the New Hampshire ballot could face sanctions from the national party.”

Alternative Media and Comedians – Asking the Questions and Highlighting the Issues

First two videos – Jan 6th News

Operating A Camera In A Public Place

Americans do not live in a free and honest society. Today, the mainstream media will function like paid actors reading a script:

Private citizens are stepping in and going out with a camera to see and document what is going on.

Instead of waiting for school teachers to teach about individual rights and limited government authority, waiting on the press to ask questions, or courts to handle cases, these guys go out and update us with a quick reality check.

Also not waiting on the overthrow of Saddam Hussein or the take down of the next bad guy in distant lands, as DOD defends the constitution, etc.

Videos recorded at or outside of sites that are funded by the public seem to be best for documenting these issues.

Two videos for today:

Video below – Any TV newsperson could go out and educate the public on their rights/public official’s obligation to provide info, etc. That does not happen.

Here is the response from someone who wants to live in a free and honest society.

Video below is from a channel I respect:

Bay Area Transparency

PUBLIC RECORDS ACT VIOLATED & ILLEGALLY TRESPASSED!!” NEVADA FIRST AMENDMENT

Easy to watch on YouTube for those who desire to do so.

Years ago, I lived in several different small town areas. Places like Kingston, Port Hadlock and north of Penn Cove.

These areas had small, local newspapers and those papers featured active, online comment sections. Paying for a newspaper subscription was OK with me. There were basic rules for commenting, but it did not seem to matter what name people went by. I never cared.

I used to love the comment sections.

If a person works at a school district, county office, real estate office, on the ferries, etc. and they have info about what is going on, I want them to be able to comment without any need to use their real name.

Some people would misbehave in the comment section and the newspapers would come up with more restrictive rules or new software to run the comment section. Eliminating comments became a trend.

Local papers have stripped away all comments from past articles, and removed the opportunity to post comments to new articles.

Various newspapers in the Puget Sound area have gone with this trend.

Suppressing comments, getting away from asking questions related to public policy and telling us they need more support from subscription and advertising sales.

Got it.

Fentanyl overdoses keep increasing in King County

In consideration of how we voice our opinions in the modern world, we’ve closed comments on our websites. We value the opinions of our readers and we encourage you to keep the conversation going.”

Comments are shut down and we encourage you to keep the conversation going?

No hate speech, insults, threats, foul language, attacking other commenters, etc. These are rules that make sense.

Eliminating the opportunity for all to follow some basic rules and comment is information suppression.

Over the years, I’ve seen some really good points brought up in the comments section. Manage it, don’t ban it.

I’d be more interested in paying (again) for a local paper subscription if there was more in the way of investigative reporting & newspeople asking questions. Elimination of reader comments works against the idea of paying for an online subscription.

Manage it, don’t ban it. Online comment sections

Another New Trend For Small Papers – No Questions Asked

The papers are here to support government agencies and their messaging, not to question it.

Two Examples

In the news- example number one:

August 11, 2023 Whidbey News-Times

Whidbey sewer plants win state awards

“The Oak Harbor Clean Water Facility was recognized as outstanding by the Department of Ecology.”

The Coupeville treatment plant received the outstanding performance award for the 13th consecutive year, and the Holmes Harbor plant was awarded for the 17th year in a row. The Penn Cove wastewater treatment plant was also a recipient this year.”

Beach adjacent to Award Winning Sewage Treatment Plant:

Coupeville

“Clams, mussels and oysters CLOSED year-round.”

“This beach is within the closure area for a sewage treatment plant outfall and is unsafe for recreational shellfish harvesting.”

Source: WDFW

Love to see newspeople ask:

When is the last time all of Penn Cove was safe for recreational shellfish harvest?

Zero questions from small or large newspapers. Zero questions from TV newspeople.

In the news- example number two:

$6.3 million in federal cash for a used hotel.

Any questions from newspeople?

December 8, 2022 The Daily World

Dept. of Ag invests $6.3M to purchase Ocean Shores hotel

$6.3 million “to fund the acquisition of an existing hotel. Marathon Enterprises Inc. is located in Ocean Shores, Grays Harbor County, Washington. The project is expected to result in saving eight jobs and creating one full time job.”

Zero questions from small or large newspapers. Zero questions from TV newspeople.

No sense in subscribing to newspapers that do not ask public policy-related questions.

Puget Sound Ferry Security

See if you can find any reader comments or questions from newspeople on this big Homeland Security/GWOT topic:

Good luck.

One of our old/favorite blog topics and another example of newspeople not asking questions:

Trying to make sense of ongoing war on terror/security theater mixed messages.

Love to see more in the way of newspeople asking questions.

Today, the best example of a free and independent American press is what you will find in sports culture.

In 2023, the press tends to support government agencies, departments and policies rather than question them.

The mainstream press today is prone to suppress voices of dissent and provide news coverage that favors government agencies, departments and their policies.

Here is a nice example:

KIRO 7 May 23, 2017

Ferry drill: Police train how to respond to security threats aboard a ferry in Puget Sound

“Law enforcement officers climbed aboard, guns drawn.”

Just the ticket for a Wild West shootout between the good guys and the bad guys.

If the Oklahoma City bomber rolls onto the ferry-how does the SWAT team help out an hour later?

Blogged about it over the years:

Maybe security personnel are present at some specific terminal each day. I have made dozens of round trip ferry crossings over the past 20 years from various terminals. In many cases, there has been no security screening at either terminal.

Washington State ferry passengers are advised via PA system to not leave backpacks or packages unattended during ferry crossings.

Meanwhile- on the car deck- cars, trucks, vans, commercial vehicles, etc. are left unattended during ferry crossings.

More than 20 years past 911, banking professionals had no idea that he could stand in a public place and operate a camera-no matter what direction the camera was pointed in.

Is Seattle in Decline? Was My 2020 Blog Correct?

Downtown Seattle has lost many of its businesses, many driven away by crime, shoplifting, and loss of clientele. Covid was not the main driver of the decline, something shown by the viability of other cities (such as Miami).”

“Homelessness has risen rapidly in much of the city, with hundreds dying on the streets each year. 2022 brought a record-breaking 310 deaths in King County (mainly Seattle), many associated with drug overdoses. A large proportion of the homeless are mentally ill.”

“There is a reason that the UW has been rated as the worst public university in the U.S. for protecting freedom of speech. KNKX listenership has declined greatly, with listeners driven away by its shrill, politized fare.”

Several interesting comments have now been posted.

A shame to see the self-manufactured decline of a major city. The evidence is irrefutable that the existing policies are not working, yet there is an organized effort to stop people from speaking out for needed changes.”

“The GAO concluded that leaders at the Pentagon are not only failing to provide oversight — instead choosing to largely punt the issue to the branches — but they also don’t consider it a priority. The result has been bureaucratic finger-pointing, with no one office or leader willing to own the issue.”

Anybody fired over this?

Where is the Cold War era Sergeant Major or First Sergeant who would have raised hell to take care of The Troops. Are they encouraging the young people they know to sign up today? The guys that did a couple tours in Iraq or Afghanistan- are they sending young family members down to enlist?

There has been a big stir over a blocked senior military promotion system. TV newspeople will avoid interviewing people who offer up a voice of dissent. Stalling the administrative steps to promote top level officers might lead to what? Decades of undeclared/unwon wars? A giant Dept. of Defense that was nowhere to be found on 911?

Why would high level promotions be awarded to people who are part of the system that allowed The Troops to live in the barracks described below?

Something from the last century

JFK speaks about the role of the press and voices of dissent in a free society:

Talk of calling out the mistakes of government and encouraging voices of dissent is the sort of stuff that might get social media accounts suppressed or restricted today. The wrong thoughts could be branded as misinformation.

Let’s go ahead and post that same speech from a different source, maybe both will stay up.

Same speech from another source:

Back in 2020, I posted a blog and included the same JFK speech. That video is no longer available.

JFK speaks about the role of the press in a free society:

My Take

What did JFK’s free and independent press turn into?

Newspeople play the role of federal public affairs staff as authorities prepare for the Super Bowl.

We are the very best at militarized pageantry for pro sports events.

Sorry, no time for newspeople to ask:

Did the advantage of US air power allow the undeclared wars in Iraq or Afghanistan to be prevented, won or shut down?

Today, the best example of a free and independent American press is what you will find in sports culture.

In 2023, the press tends to support government agencies, departments and policies rather than question them.

Small Town Papers – Two Examples

In the news- example number one:

August 11, 2023 Whidbey News-Times

Whidbey sewer plants win state awards

“The Oak Harbor Clean Water Facility was recognized as outstanding by the Department of Ecology.”

The Coupeville treatment plant received the outstanding performance award for the 13th consecutive year, and the Holmes Harbor plant was awarded for the 17th year in a row. The Penn Cove wastewater treatment plant was also a recipient this year.”

“Clams, mussels and oysters CLOSED year-round.”

“This beach is within the closure area for a sewage treatment plant outfall and is unsafe for recreational shellfish harvesting.”

No sense in subscribing to newspapers that do not ask public policy-related questions.

For this first video, I will say that I think of myself and others as individuals, not as members of a group. You can find good and bad people in any group. I would have framed the question here as: What went wrong with American culture, rather than what went wrong with any group. Personal blog: Boomer?

What if mainstream newspeople went out and asked questions? What if they were to interview people on various sides of any issue, rather than just one side?

A Very Low Wildfire Year over the Western U.S.

“…if you follow the media and some activist groups, the wildfire threat is getting worse very quickly, with global warming being the major cause!”

“Of course, there is no group that exaggerates wildfire threats more than the Seattle Times and their cartoonist, David Horsey (see below). I do wonder why his wildfire monster wears sunglasses.”

Global warming for all the hype and exaggeration is quite modest at this point….the western U.S. has warmed up by roughly 2F over the past half century with very little change in precipitation. Not enough to profoundly alter the fire situation.”

“The bottom line is that all the scary talk about rapidly rising wildfire threats in our future is really not based on solid facts, and reality is going a different way.”

How many other scary and unfounded predictions have gone viral in the public space? That communists were taking over the universities and government in the 1950s? That Vietnam was a domino requiring intervention? That weapons of mass destruction were hidden in Iraq? We seem to love believing in apocalyptic predictions, whether or not factual information supports them?”

Will a New House Speaker Solve Our Problems?

“…there is still something satisfying about seeing such a shake-up over the issue of foreign interventionism. After a year and a half and more than $100 billion sent by Biden’s neocons for the proxy war with Russia in Ukraine, finally some Members are starting to wake up and say “no” to demands for even more. These wars instigated by neocons from both parties always end in disaster, but not until they produce much suffering in the countries they claim to want to liberate. They also further punish the middle and working class while enriching the wealthy and well-connected in the military-industrial complex. The cost of this latest war will be hidden in the cruelest tax – inflation – which disproportionately hurts the poor.”

From comments:

“LET’S CONSIDER MILITARY RECRUITING AND RETENTION PROBLEMS. You may have heard something about the problems the military is having with recruiting and retention. Well, part of that problem is most Americans don’t know anything about it ….. or care. First, let’s establish that this is a serious issue. Our military needs the appropriate numbers and types of people to do its job protecting the rest of us. The wrong numbers and types of people means we will loose the next war. Additionally, other nations will see our weakness and decide to be extra aggressive, increasing the chance of war. WHAT ARE SOME OF THE CAUSES OF OUR CURRENT PROBLEMS? Some say it’s because about 75% of America’s youth are not qualified to enter the services. Left unexamined is the fact that this is not a new condition which has never before had a serious effect on recruitment. Some say it’s because the military has gone Woke, and that repels recruits and those already in the services. Military leadership rejects this. But, there is ample proof of its truth. And, it’s military leadership that has caused it. Some say it the economy. Conditions are so good that recruits and existing military are drawn to the civilian market. But, given the state of the current economy, that is a questionable belief….. at best. HOW IS THE MILITARY LEADERSHIP ADDRESSING THE PROBLEM? Standards are being lowered….. Regardless of lowering the ability to fight, current leadership is desperate not to look bad. It seems they would rather loose the next war instead. Bribes are being paid….. Payments of up to $100,000 are being offered to attract recruits and keep existing military. There is an increased reliance on women to fill combat slots….. This may decrease our combat effectiveness. But, it will temporally stop the leadership from looking bad. It is interesting to look at the environment in which the recruitment and retention problems exist. FOR MOST OF THE PAST 75 YEARS, WE HAVE BEEN AT WAR (although congress has not declared war as required ……even once). AND, WE HAVEN’T WON ANY OF THEM. All of these conflicts were against inferior adversaries that posed no chance of large scale war that would threaten the continental United States. We went to their countries…..they won…..and we left. Recently, 3 big things have happened. First…. After fighting for 20 years in the middle east, we were kicked out of Afghanistan looking unprofessional and like a bunch of losers. Second….. the US blundered into a proxy war with Russia….. Third, China is becoming more and more aggressive. A war involving Russia and/or China would most likely be similar to WW 2 (at best) and could easily go nuclear and end mankind…..That means all of us would be dead. Many Americans have determined that military leadership, both uniformed and, mostly civilian, has not been up to the task since WW 2. Some even believe the Deep State is pushing us to war for the benefit of the military/industrial complex. PERHAPS OUR MILITARY HISTORY IS CAUSING THE PROBLEMS IN RECRUITMENT AND RETENTION? What are our leaders NOT doing to address the problem? THEY ARE NOT CONSIDERING A DRAFT While a draft would solve a number of problems, politicians will never vote for it. The 25% of Americas youth who would be susceptible do not want to die and would vote the politicians out of office. Also, the parents and families of the 25% would likewise vote against these politicians. But, the biggest reason the politicians would not bring back the draft is they know a large portion of Americans would then become interested in our foreign affairs and that would drastically limit the politicians ability to send our military into conflicts. This would dry-up the money and influence politicians now have access to. THEY ARE NOT CHANGING HOW WE ADDRESS FOREIGN AFFAIRS Our leaders are also not considering changing our approach of engaging in military interventions around the world. Our history of deciding where to get involved, our goals, our definition of victory, our strategy and tactics have a 75 year record of failure. We don’t seem to know what we are doing ( This is not an opinion. this is historical FACT ). Yet, there is no call to examine what we did and how we can avoid the continuation of our record of failure. Nobody has been held responsible. NOTHING ! Perhaps the gen-Z generation has recognized this and has acted to try and stay alive. WE GET WHAT WE VOTE FOR”

Some truly excellent points here. Well done.

The press, politicians, and some Americans will avoid pointing out the reality of this situation.

The US should maintain strong and ready military forces. The Cold War ended in the early 90s. The Pentagon was happy with the All Volunteer Force.

Look what they did with it.

Decades after the lessons of Vietnam, it feels like the people who run the Pentagon specialize in undeclared/unwon wars.

Understandable why young people and their parents and grandparents would take a dim view on all this.

“Sending soldiers to war based on lies and then treating them like shit when they return hurts recruitment.”

“You wanna know why people don’t enlist? Drive through the city and tell me how many signs you see that say “homeless vet, please help.” Tell me how many pharmacies stopped accepting Tricare. Tell me how often uncle Jim can’t be with the family for the 4th of July because fireworks make him freak out. And they pay you worse than a janitor! To guard a parking lot for a government that hates you! It’s not worth it!”

“I was a Marine for nearly a decade. I would never have joined if I knew what the country would turn into. The US is no longer worth defending. I moved out of the US permanently for an Asian country that has some dignity and self-respect.
Edit: BTW, I don’t believe it is the problems you’ve stated. People want to fight for things they believe in, and, like me, they’ve lost faith in the country and have no desire to join”

“I currently serve right now as a reservist. They are throwing money at new recruits, but for people who are already in, and for veterans, there is very little being done to keep us. Reenlistment bonuses are not great unless you have special forces or other high profile experience, and all veterans and currently serving know how difficult it is to get the benefits we are promised. I’ve been in for sixteen years and if it weren’t for being close to retirement pension eligibility in a few years, I would get out.”

“one of the biggest issues imo is the fact that people who get out tell their friends and family to never join, word of mouth is much more powerful than any marketing campaign”

“I was going to enlist in the army after high school. My parents, uncle and grandpa recommended me not to go in the army, yet, go into the airforce. They also said that they already fought so we won’t have to fight. They advised if I were to join the military that it should be in the purpose of defending our homeland, instead of some other crappy country that can care less about the US.”

“Growing up at the height of 9/11 and the Early War years as a kid right outside Fort Hood Army base. Patriotic fervor was in full swing. “Support The Troops” ribbons. Endless School art projects that entailed making American flags for newspaper stories. We wrote letters and sent mail to troops in Iraq and Afghanistan, they would write back etc. I used to think Military Service was of the highest honor. But over the years the disturbing stories kept filtering in. Soldiers that had deployed to combat 5 times. Soldiers that got “Stop-Lossed” (Forcefully having their contract extended after trying to process out) An epidemic of suicide and nightmare disability process. The Iraq-Afghanistan Wars have truly decimated the prestige and image of the Service. The new generation has spent their entire lives seeing a generation of service men and women get brutalized by two wars and an indifferent government. I understand that on some level this has always been the case. But the “War On Terror” has been a unique beast entirely in screw-ups.”

Here at Oak Bay Starfish, we believe that a return to the draft is total political fantasy. Still wondering if anyone was fired over that.

National Guard

Thousands of men and women who signed up for the National Guard in the past 25 years did tours in places like Syria, Africa, Iraq, Afghanistan, and Kosovo.

These families have stories to tell and they’re not all positive. Will their stories support a draft?
