Make us proud guys-

Army Corps of Engineers can’t produce $1 billion of fuel receipts in Iraq

“The total amount of funds unaccounted for has now reached a staggering $7 billion, officials say — and they warn that the Iraqi government is likely to demand at least some of that money back.”

Senator McCain-

“I have not yet met a single 18-year-old, including my own son . . . who said, ‘Gee, I want to join the Marine Corps because of TRICARE.’ No, they joined the military because they want to serve their country.”

They didn’t sign up for TRICARE Senator McCain.

They stayed for multiple tours in Iraq and Afghanistan and kept reenlisting until they had 20 years in for TRICARE.

They could have left the armed forces to stabilize their lives Re: children in school, home ownership, a chance at decent local jobs for a two income household, family separation, getting shot at, etc.

They stayed in based on what they thought was an honest understanding of the benefits they were earning.

Traditional DOD military healthcare benefits used to entice people to stay for multiple tours in Iraq and Afghanistan should be written in stone.

Many Americans may associate free medical care with people who stay for 20 years in the US Armed Forces.

Recommendation-

Insert language into recruiting literature and enlistment documents stating that rules concerning benefits may change at any time & that no definite benefit package will be provided in exchange for 20 years of unrestricted worldwide service. No grandfather clause will apply. Have unit leaders refer to this disclaimer when promoting retention drives, giving re-enlistment speeches, etc.

Stop spending federal money on meaningless support the troops promotions, campaigns and VIP photo ops that are not connected in any way with public policy.

Here is a hand selected lady who was surprised (1:12) to get a phone call of support from The First Lady- even though cameras were rolling in her home when the phone rang:

My concerns are not specific to any political party or personality.

Here’s the Republican position Re: making good on healthcare benefits for The Troops:

“Pulling the TRICARE Prime idea from a recent Congressional Budget Office report, McCain said forcing retirees under 65 to use TRICARE Standard, the fee-for-service option, or health insurance from civilian employers, or space-available care at base clinics or hospitals, could save DoD medical accounts up to $111 billion over the next decade.”

Senator McCain,

There was a time when Moms & Dads, friends, relatives, folks at church and school and people with years of military experience encouraged a younger generation to take a favorable look at making a career of the US Armed Forces.

Even if there was another draft- people would be drafted for an enlistment- not a career.

Good luck with your all-volunteer military.

Update:

Report savages terrorism ‘fusion centers’ for high cost, low value

“In the new Senate report, investigators found that with the lack of oversight, fusion centers spent money wildly, including a San Diego fusion center that bought 55 flat-screen televisions at a cost of $75,000 to watch the news and display calendars.”

Welcome Home Troops

Ever notice that the surveillance society, fusion centers, war on terror crime fighting tactics, license plate scanners, monitoring of e-mails and text messages, tracking of cell phones, use of drones, etc. seems to fail at stopping hardcore bad guys?

The federal government must have magic crime fighting powers to stop terrorists. The magic powers don’t work on crimes like bank robbery or drug trafficking.

It appears the federal government has been extremely successful in preventing major post 911 domestic terror strikes.

If the federal government has the crime fighting skills to wipe out all major terror strikes since 911- why wouldn’t they use those skills to shut down other categories of violent crimes?

Why does the federal government maintain a Homeland Security police state that can’t keep heroin and cocaine from entering the US?

Veterans Day is for honoring veterans. Memorial Day is for honoring those who died in wars. Sept 11th is for honoring the victims and heroes of 911- a time to remember how the nation pulled together in the days following the event.

Commenting on newspaper web editions-

The story has to do with the tenth anniversary of 911, a large number of troops lost in a helicopter crash in Afghanistan, or a federal park ranger gunned down in Washington State. Many comments asking for or offering prayers for the families who have suffered a loss, etc. (praying to the same god who watched over as the tragedy unfolded?) Someone posts a public policy question or comment related to the story-

“This isn’t the place for your political views, we don’t want to hear your comments about the war, or gun control, have some respect for the families, this is not the time”, etc.

Hey folks- this is a news site- not a church service. I would never scold anyone for offering prayers- why the effort to suppress ideas?

Think terrorists are smart enough to pose as drug traffickers- then cross into the US free of screening, scanning, pat downs, special IDs, inspection of personal items, etc.

Domestic heroin busts are reported as some sort of law & order success-

Each one is evidence that- 11 years after 911– the US Dept. of Homeland Security is unable to prevent criminal traffic from entering the US.

Conspiracy Theory-

More information is better- this is how science and medicine works. Over the years some people have been freed from prison based on new DNA evidence becoming available.
Are the people who took steps to discover that new evidence conspiracy theorists?
Apply this same curiosity and desire for knowledge to some controversial topics and you’ll be labeled a conspiracy theorist.

Why the effort to suppress ideas?

Looks like some vulnerabilities and gaps are present here:

911 should have been a drug trafficker’s worst nightmare. The US Dept. of Homeland Security- a whole new federal department- was created to stop terrorists and prevent another 911.

Today- fusion centers and police state tactics are the norm to keep the US safe from terrorists.

Why hasn’t the US Department of Homeland Security been able to stop cocaine and heroin from crossing into the US?

Every domestic heroin bust is evidence that the US Dept. of Homeland Security is unable to prevent hardcore criminals from crossing into the US.

Why not go ahead and put an end to bank robbery using an approach similar to what has worked in shutting down major terror strikes?

(There were 677 bank robberies in California last year. Imagine bringing that number down to where the numbers are Re: major terror strikes.)

Maybe because hardcore criminals don’t hold hands with federal agents before they set out to rob a bank or move illegal drugs into North America?

Another roundtrip ferry crossing yesterday. No security at either terminal.

What is the point in having gunboats escorting ferries if terrorists are free to put their boat on a trailer and drive it onto the ferry?

Just the ticket for the day terrorists abandon the sneak attack (Oklahoma City, 911, USS Cole, US Marine barracks Beirut, etc.) and go with a good old fashioned shoot-out between the good guys and the bad guys.

If the Oklahoma City bomber rolls onto the ferry- how does the SWAT team help out an hour later?

Training scenario-

Are the bad guys allowed to fire on the good guy’s boats and helicopters?

No hostages, bewildered passengers or suicide bombers in the mix?

How about the bad guys drive a vehicle from the car deck onto the good guy’s boat as they pull up?

Meanwhile- on the car deck- cars, trucks, vans, commercial vehicles, etc. are left unattended during ferry crossings.

One of our local TV stations recently informed us about Homeland Security gunboats on Puget Sound.

Video here

This hard-hitting interview was an opportunity to answer most FAQs.

Serious subject matter- covered like an elementary school field trip down to the fire station- except- students might come up with some intelligent or interesting questions at the fire station.

What questions went unasked?

1) How does the gunboat protect the ferry if a bad guy is already onboard? The Washington State Patrol uses dogs to check vehicles at some ferry terminals on some days. Walk-on passengers are not checked at any terminal- at any time.

2) “Terrorists” (If they really are out to get us) can communicate just like teenagers- they can wait in line and ride the ferry just like anyone else. What would stop terrorists from riding the ferry and alerting each other if they see a US Coast Guard escort or Washington State Patrol dogs sniffing cars prior to loading?

3) If a terrorist wanted to get their boat dangerously close to a ferry- they could just put it on a trailer and drive it on- what would prevent this?

4) What stops terror strikes on the days US Coast Guard gunboats are not providing escorts on any given route or Washington State Patrol dogs are not on duty at any given terminal?

Once again- no hostages, bewildered passengers or suicide bombers in the staged ferry boat rescue at 0:45

On Washington’s Olympic Peninsula-

Border Patrol checkpoints came to Jefferson County, WA in 2008.

We are told the #1 US Border Patrol objective is to stop terrorists.

The US Border Patrol explains this objective at a local public forum- this YouTube video covers Border Patrol objectives at 3:50

At that same forum a lady asked:

“What is the penalty for not identifying oneself to federal agents at an internal, suspicionless checkpoint?”

US Border Patrol said they would call in the Sheriff when a person refused to identify themselves.

Sheriff says they will not respond to a non-emergency situation involving a person peaceably refusing to interact with federal agents.

Question about providing ID is at 0:35

Checkpoints ended here in 2008- possibly due to well informed citizens and local protests. Looks like they weren’t vital to national security after all.

No draft folks.

The all volunteer military is the politician’s best friend.

No draft means less war protests & more undeclared wars in distant lands where the National Guard is doing multiple tours.

Today- most Americans can repeat the “Thanks for your service” slogan and move on without having to involve themselves or family members in decades of undeclared wars in distant lands. This is just the way politicians want it.

If there is any quiet sense of guilt among politicians or people who never did time in uniform about all that- it can be cleared up by thanking The Troops for protecting American rights and freedoms, supporting The Troops, giving them discounts, being cool with them wearing field uniforms in public, not questioning wars that aren’t won, etc.

Spending just a few moments at major sporting events honoring the troops covers for cutting benefits for those who hung in for multiple tours in Iraq.

Troop suicides are less of a big deal if everyone is a volunteer.

The more tortuous inspection procedures become out at the airport- the more I wonder what prevents terrorists from disrupting security in that crowded part of the airport just outside of the screening checkpoint.

What stops hardcore terrorists from blowing themselves up in crowded airports just prior to being questioned at security checkpoints?

“Once again, CBP was on the scene as the first line of defense in cargo security and against dangerous illegal activity posing a threat to our nation’s security,” said Tom Hardy, CBP director of field operations for Seattle. “CBP screens 100 percent of all maritime containers that pose a risk for terrorism at foreign ports before they are shipped to the United States.”

But not the containers used to transport human cargo?

Hey VFW, Hey American Legion, Hey Joint Chiefs of Staff- what’s your take on this?

Suspicionless federal traffic stops on Washington’s Olympic Peninsula-

The Border Patrol gave up on checkpoints here way back in 2008.

Over the past year or so, mysterious federal traffic stops have been in the news.

Local reporters never ask why the vehicle was stopped.

Many of the locals seem to be all for federal police state tactics- away from border crossings and ports of entry- if there’s a chance that an illegal alien might be captured. See comments here.

We were forced as children to memorize a pledge of allegiance- but we were never taught about the limits of federal police powers- away from border crossings and ports of entry.

What is the penalty for not identifying oneself to federal agents at an internal, suspicionless checkpoint?

US Border Patrol said they would call in the Sheriff when a person refused to identify themselves.

Sheriff says they will not respond to a non-emergency situation involving a person peaceably refusing to interact with federal agents.

Question about providing ID is at 0:35

Checkpoints ended here in 2008- possibly due to well informed citizens and local protests. Looks like they weren’t vital to national security after all.

War on Terror- credibility squandered.

Elsewhere in the US- people object to living in a police state- even if an illegal alien or fake terrorist might be captured:

US foreign policy goals and objectives are somehow linked to American rights and freedoms.

Your vote is critical in this key election year.

Safety concerns require that arrest statistics must be kept secret.

Aug 2010-

A US Border Patrol spokesperson tells the press:

“Border Patrol spokeswoman Jenny Burke said Monday that the agency will not release any information on the number of arrests made by agents who work out of the Port Angeles station, the names of those arrested, what they were arrested for and the disposition of their cases”

“The number of arrests for Port Angeles’ or any other station is “law enforcement-sensitive,” Burke said.”

“The names of those arrested and other facts about them are not available for release under the 1974 Privacy Act, she said.”

The Department of Homeland Security is in the business of keeping terrorists out of the US.

The Port Angeles US Border Patrol station has stopped 2 people from crossing into the US illegally.

That incident took place more than 2 years ago.

What we have today is a high-priced boondoggle featuring secret arrest statistics, denied FOIA requests, & uninvestigated fraudulent overtime claims.

If the Border Patrol was preventing people from illegally entering the US- there would be little work to do at Forks, WA.

Perhaps four handguns could have saved thousands on 911?

American culture is OK with lies told about US foreign policy and where military service fits into our way of life.

Somewhere after 911- many patriotic Americans seem to have embraced the idea that “The Troops” are fighting to protect our rights and freedoms– as if the US Armed Forces function as some sort of giant civil rights organization.

Memorial Day 2012-

“Memorial Day used to be held on May 30 regardless, and was moved to the last Monday in May in 1968 to create a three-day annual weekend. Interestingly there are those who oppose the weekend idea and advocate its return to fixed date, including the Veterans of Foreign War (VFW). In the Eighties Hawaiian Senator Daniel Inouye, himself a WWII veteran, introduced legislation (unsuccessful) to return the original date. The idea is that if Memorial Day was not simply a long weekend holiday for going to the beach and grilling, more Americans might actually realize that it has a deeper and much more somber meaning.”

Perhaps less Americans are buying into the idea that overseas military operations are somehow connected to American rights and freedoms.

Perhaps some question a departure from the old tradition of a formal congressional declaration of war prior to sending the troops into combat.

Perhaps some see that Post 911 efforts to keep terrorists from visiting the homeland- still are unable to keep illegal drugs out.

Some may have come to the point where they just think of it as a Fake War on Terror.

“Let us never forget those who bravely gave their life blood or paid the ultimate price so we can have our freedom and the right to vote.”

It turns out “The Troops” were in no hurry to enable all adults to act on their right to vote.

US Military operations conducted in the 1940s, 50s & 60s didn’t get the job done.

It wasn’t until July of 1971 that 18 year old adults could take delivery on one of the freedoms we hear so much about.

How about the National Minimum Drinking Age Act of 1984– it stripped the 50 states of the “freedom” to set their own minimum drinking age- where were “The Troops”?

Memorial Day 2011-

“…take this time to recognize those currently serving in the Armed Forces as they continue to fight to protect the liberties that we have come to appreciate.”

Memorial Day 2009-

Still more than 2 weeks away and here is a letter that reminds us of the meaning of this important day.

The letter writer and several of those who commented made mention of the troops “fighting for our freedom.”

When we were told that our concealed carry permit was void on local, federal National Parks lands– did the Joint Chiefs of Staff send out “The Troops” to restore American rights and freedoms?

Any support from The Department of Defense Re: various state’s efforts to legalize marijuana?

Are The Joint Chiefs of Staff working to reverse a federal ban on online poker games?

Are “The Troops” standing in the way of warrantless searches of homes and apartments?

How about Delayed-Notice Search Warrants?

How about a federal law that requires social security numbers to be submitted for fishing licenses? A totalitarian- guilty until proven innocent scheme to track down dead beat dads– as if digging a bucket of clams has anything to do with child support payments.

When the US Armed Forces are sent to Lebanon, Somalia, Haiti, Bosnia, Vietnam, etc.- how is that defending the US Constitution– or our rights and freedoms, or our physical security?

When we return from an undeclared war or military conflict without a victory- what becomes of American rights and freedoms?

One person wrote: “…spend this Memorial Day honoring those who have defended your right to have an opinion on this matter.”

As if we are wards of the state or mindless drones– somehow dependent on people in military uniforms to enable us to think or to have an opinion.

If the troops are fighting for American rights and freedoms- why were black people still riding at the back of the bus after the big WWII victory?

US foreign policy goals and objectives are mapped out at the very highest levels of government.

Ask yourself- is there someone at the table- in those high level planning sessions- who makes sure that military operations overseas include a mission to protect American rights and freedoms?

Does someone make sure the mission is to defend the constitution?

Is there anyone who verifies that the mission is to protect our physical security?

How does the executive branch of government defend the constitution via US foreign policy?

Many veterans refer to their oath of enlistment Re: defending the constitution- when & how do The Troops act on behalf of the executive branch of government to defend the constitution?

If the US Armed Forces are somehow connected to defending the constitution- how did public policy serve up due-process-free assassinations?

Never Forget-

The US Armed Forces were irrelevant in defending American rights and freedoms, our physical security, & The Constitution on 911.

Ditto for all other federal agencies and departments.

People who question US foreign policy on newspaper websites are told:

“You wouldn’t have the freedom to post your nonsense if people were not giving their lives in Iraq and Afghanistan to protect that freedom”, etc.

Some will say people in uniform “give” http://www.iwvpa.net/provincecm/ us our freedoms- totally disregarding the concept of inalienable rights.

Others will say we’d be speaking a language or practicing a religion not of our choosing- if not for veterans:

“Support your troops.  Support all military,” Mowl said. “If it wasn’t for them, you wouldn’t be here.  It’s the same as the World War II vets – if it weren’t for them, we’d be speaking German now.”

The free and well armed people who populate the North American continent could be forced to speak a language not of their choosing?

Doubt it.

The world’s most modern & powerful military force has had their hands full for years now trying to pacify the locals in the Greater Middle East.

We’ve got such a good handle on the situation- National Guard units are doing multiple tours in distant lands– absent any military emergency, draft, or declaration of war.

We’re not in the habit of winning decades of undeclared wars overseas– why would we think they have any bearing on the language we choose to speak- or on American rights and freedoms in any sense?

Public policy stands in the way of freedom- a situation completely unrelated to military operations in distant lands.

Military service is honorable. In some cases, it provides for our physical security. That’s as good as it gets.

In terms of American rights and freedoms- The Dept. of Defense has no more say than the Dept. of Agriculture.

Best thanks for a veteran-

Reach for an honest understanding of US foreign policy.

We’re just weeks away from the grand opening of a new, $5.7 million 50 agent US Border Patrol station at Port Angeles- an area sharing no land border with Canada.

Still no justification provided by elected officials or the US Border Patrol for an upgrade in staff requiring the 50 agent facility- due to open in the spring of 2012.

We are told the #1 US Border Patrol objective is to stop terrorists. The US Border Patrol explains this objective at a local public forum- this YouTube video covers Border Patrol objectives at 3:50.

Hey local reporters-

When can we expect to hear from you on all this?

Photo- looking towards the west end of Crescent Bay, WA. – Vancouver Island in the distance.

Best case scenario- elected officials, public agencies, & a free and independent press work together to keep people informed.

This concept has completely broken down Re: the US Border Patrol at Port Angeles.

That free and independent press recently informed us on Olympic Peninsula US Border Patrol operations.

The article reads like paid advertising or something produced by US Border Patrol public relations.

Most of the photos used in the article were provided by the federal government.

This local story has been developing for years now. There has been plenty of time for people with the advantage of a press credential to schedule appointments, do interviews & ask questions.

Old News

May 31st, 2010-

Two amphibious Canadian marijuana smugglers are captured on a remote Olympic Peninsula beach by the US Border Patrol.

Two total arrests out of the Port Angeles US Border Patrol station that are connected in any way to the US/Canada border?

Two total arrests of people crossing the Strait of Juan de Fuca.

Two total arrests involving cross-border traffic for the land and sea based Homeland Security forces stationed at Port Angeles.

“… their main interaction with the boating public: Boarding boats and checking for ID, getting a “vibe,” as Jeff P. called it, for what’s up.”

Loose Ends

We’re just weeks away from the grand opening of a new, $5.7 million 50 Agent US Border Patrol station at Port Angeles- an area sharing no land border with Canada.

Still no justification provided by elected officials or the US Border Patrol for an upgrade in staff requiring the 50 agent facility- due to open in the spring of 2012.

Besides sharing no land border with Canada- the Olympic Peninsula is not served by the interstate highway system. The nearest interstate is more than 2 hours away.

Alternate route- Interstate 5 – still more than 2 hours away.

If smugglers & drug traffickers were in a hurry to get to an interstate- the Olympic Peninsula wouldn’t be the place to show up. Maybe this is another reason why we have seen just 2 arrests involving cross-border traffic here & why a report concerning fraudulent overtime went public last year.

Watch for news reports that claim a need for the 50 agent facility because Ahmed Ressam was stopped at Port Angeles in 1999.

Urban legend: The US Border Patrol stopped the Millennium Bomber at Port Angeles-

Ahmed Ressam was captured at the traditional port of entry at Port Angeles by Customs Inspectors wearing blue uniforms- not by Border Patrol Agents wearing green uniforms.

The US Border Patrol is the primary federal law enforcement agency between the ports-of-entry.

How many US Border Patrol agents were stationed at Port Angeles in 1999?

Secret arrest statistics- for your safety

Aug 2011-

“In March, Supervisory Border Patrol Agent Richard Sinks declined to release statistics on apprehensions or detainments made by the Port Angeles station.”

“Disclosure of the arrest statistics from the Port Angeles station would provide those interested in crossing our borders illegally with information that could aid their strategic targeting of potentially vulnerable areas along the border,” he said in an e-mail. “To maintain operational security these numbers will not be provided.”

Arrest statistics are secret.

Secret arrest policy instantly lifted if something to brag about takes place.

CBP showcases apprehensions on their own web site. Does this report threaten national security?

Any other law enforcement agencies observing the do not report arrest numbers due to security reasons protocol?

No secret arrest statistics here

Did news people in the San Diego area place national security at risk by making this report?

Imagine a school district wanting to expand staff and facilities and, at the same time- suppressing public information Re: the number of students enrolled, teachers on staff and number of students graduated in the past 36 months.

“…the Border Patrol has refused to divulge the number of agents in Port Angeles…”

Local law enforcement agencies set the example in sharing public information with the public.

Compare the Port Angeles Police Dept. to the US Border Patrol.

March 2011- Local paper submits FOIA request for USBP arrest numbers to justify new 50 agent station. FOIA request denied. FOIA appeal denied.

What is a Border Patrol sector?

The civic units of measure familiar to Americans are states, cities and counties.

The US Border Patrol is broken up into sectors- which are arbitrary federal zones- confusing by design.

The State of Washington is served by two Border Patrol sectors- Spokane SectorBlaine Sector.

Look for reports that provide USBP arrest statistics for sectors- not stations. This reporting format makes it difficult for the public to understand what is going on at the Port Angeles US Border Patrol station.

“Blaine Sector Border Patrol agents, who cover Alaska, Oregon and the western half of Washington state, made 591 arrests in 12 months, the agency announced last week in its annual nationwide arrest report.”

Don’t look for local journalists to question this manipulation of public information.

The people of Erie, PA did not have to submit a FOIA request to find out what justified the expansion of their local Border Patrol station-

No public information/security conflict at the U.S. Border Patrol station (not sector) in Erie, PA.

Erie Station- similar to Port Angeles in that it is separated from Canada by water.

Note: reports of the expansion at Erie include numbers of arrests out of that station:

“The Border Patrol operations in Erie, nearly six years old, include more than 30 agents who apprehended 588 illegal immigrants in fiscal year 2008-09.”

“The Border Patrol’s apprehensions in the Erie area have grown steadily, from 332 in fiscal 2006-2007 to 588 in 2008-09 to 305 so far in 2009-10.

Of those apprehended so far this fiscal year, 136 were individuals found by other law enforcement agencies and turned over to the Border Patrol.”

Discussions on local news web sites reveal an almost fetish-like concern Re: the arrest of illegal aliens- “WHAT PART OF ILLEGAL DON’T YOU UNDERSTAND???”, etc.

Very little in the way of acknowledging that people are not illegally entering the US via the Strait of Juan de Fuca.

The US Border Patrol has had success in capturing Central American immigrants in Forks- 1500 miles north of where they likely crossed into the US.

These arrests often involve mysterious traffic stops conducted by federal agents (see Olympic Peninsula Border Patrol timeline- bottom of page).

Don’t look for local reporters to ask why the vehicle was stopped.

If local arrests are not connected in any way to the US/Canada border- maybe every Port Angeles sized town- all across America- should have its own 50 agent US Border Patrol station?

Suspicionless checkpoints ended on the Olympic Peninsula in 2008. Suspicionless bus boardings ended in November, 2011.

If Olympic Peninsula USBP operations are being downsized, why have local USBP personnel numbers been upsized?

What are the results of the investigation Re: fraudulent overtime claims at the Port Angeles USBP station?

Aug 2011- “…Sanchez’s claims had been referred to the federal Joint Intake Center, which will refer it to an investigating agency, possibly the U.S. Office of Special Counsel.”

Hey local reporters-

More than a year has passed since August 2, 2011- What are the results of the investigation? No follow up?

DHS is probably best served by stalling on this.

“Fusion centers maximize our ability to detect, prevent, investigate, and respond to criminal and terrorist activity. They assist the FBI by providing information made available by the combination of knowledge, expertise, and information within local law enforcement and homeland security agencies operating throughout the nation, and our participation allows us to provide a national perspective on regional threats and trends so we can better inform decision makers at all levels. The exchange of intelligence that takes place in fusion centers aids other intelligence and law enforcement organizations—including the JTTFs—in their investigative operations and serves as a critical tool for collaboration at all levels.”

Waiting in line policy to show special biometric ID fails to prevent hardcore criminals from crossing into the US- even while packing large quantities of contraband. Maybe an enhanced driver license or U.S. Passport Card will keep terrorists out- they wouldn’t be smart enough to just ride on in with shipments of illegal drugs.

We’ve got the upper hand-

It will be easy to spot an attempted strike. Expect the bad guys to be sloppy- the packages they send will look like they were put together by drunken 3rd graders, or Wile E Coyote.

Terror watch lists fail to prevent illegal drug shipments from entering North America-

“Today, traffickers operating from Colombia continue to control wholesale-level cocaine distribution throughout the heavily populated northeastern United States and along the eastern seaboard in cities such as Boston, Miami, Newark, New York, and Philadelphia.”

“Heroin is readily available in many U.S. cities as evidenced by the unprecedented high level of average retail, or street-level, purity. Criminals in four foreign source areas produce the heroin available in the United States: South America (Colombia), Southeast Asia (principally Burma), Mexico, and Southwest Asia/Middle East (principally Afghanistan).”

DHS-

“Protecting communities along on our borders is vital to our homeland security, as well as to our economic prosperity.”

“As we move forward, we’ll continue to work to ensure our borders are safe and secure, while facilitating the legitimate trade and travel that is so essential to our economy.”

“Ten years after the September 11th attacks, America is stronger and more secure today, thanks to the strong support of Congress; the tremendous work of the men and women of DHS and our local, state and federal partners across the homeland security enterprise,” said Secretary Napolitano.  “The Department’s FY 2013 budget request preserves core frontline priorities by cutting costs, sharing resources across components, and streamlining operations wherever possible.”

Looks like terrorists can cross into the US just as easily as illegal drugs do.

“Marijuana smuggled into the United States, whether grown in Mexico or transshipped from other Latin American source areas, accounts for most of the marijuana available in the United States.”

Allowing legal, domestic production of marijuana would serve to eliminate a portion of distraction and potential corruption at the border– but we can’t have that in a free society.

It appears the federal government has been extremely successful in preventing major post 911 domestic terror strikes. Why don’t law enforcement authorities apply these skills to stop other violent crimes?

Why not go ahead and put an end to bank robbery using an approach similar to what has worked in shutting down major terror strikes?

(There were 677 bank robberies in California last year. Imagine bringing that number down to where the numbers are Re: major terror strikes.)

Maybe because hardcore criminals don’t hold hands with federal agents before they set out to rob a bank or move illegal drugs into North America?

Question to ask:

How do sensitive DHS documents leave the workplace without being signed out for official business?
