42 US Border Patrol agents now stationed at Port Angeles

We are told the #1 US Border Patrol objective is to stop terrorists. The US Border Patrol explains this objective at a local public forum- this YouTube video covers Border Patrol objectives at 3:50.

At that same forum a lady asked:

“What is the penalty for not identifying oneself to federal agents at an internal, suspicionless checkpoint?”

US Border Patrol said they would call in the Sheriff when a person refused to identify themselves.

Sheriff says they will not respond to a non-emergency situation involving a person peaceably refusing to interact with federal agents.

60 billion in DOD contracting fraud

& see where savings are available to pay for healthcare fees earned by people who volunteered to go to far away places and maybe never come back again.

Politicians figured out that ending the draft & pretending to honor The Troops for a few moments at major sporting events would make it all good.

Traditional DOD military healthcare benefits used to entice people to stay for multiple tours in Iraq should be written in stone.

Defense Secretary Leon Panetta-

“But let me be clear that even after these increases, the cost borne by military retirees will remain below the levels in comparable private-sector plans.”

People who volunteer to go to far away places & maybe never come back again will pay less in fees for healthcare than people who stayed home.

Welcome Home Troops

Doublespeak-

“Panetta told reporters that defense officials “are going to protect the benefits that are provided to our troops and their families.”

But that doesn’t preclude changes to future benefits packages, or even cost-saving changes to current health care benefits and housing stipends.”

“Of the planned $450 billion in cuts over the next 10 years, more than half would come by having retirees pick up more out-of-pocket healthcare and drug costs, and by reducing or changing the military retirement system going forward.”

Thanks for the VIP photo-op featuring handpicked attendees- but how does that help the military family that hung in for multiple tours in Iraq & can now look forward to paying more for their healthcare benefits?

Here’s an idea to help military families-

Stop using tax money for ongoing National Guard deployments to distant lands– absent any military emergency, draft, or declaration of war.

Madam First Lady, What is your position on raising healthcare fees for 20 year veterans?

Thanks for prodding a daytime TV audience to spend more time appreciating The Troops.

Perhaps less Americans are buying into the idea that overseas military operations are somehow connected to American rights and freedoms.

Perhaps some question a departure from the old tradition of a formal congressional declaration of war prior to sending the troops into combat.

Perhaps some see that Post 911 efforts to keep terrorists from visiting the homeland- still are unable to keep illegal drugs out.

Some may have come to the point where they just think of it as a Fake War on Terror.

“…$70 billion worth of cost overruns by the Pentagon were caused by management failures.”

This is the same DOD that says they are running out of money to pay for the healthcare benefits that were used to entice people to reenlist for ongoing, undeclared wars in distant lands.

“Sporting events have become the domain of worship of the military and its actions. It isn’t possible to watch a high school, college or professional sporting event without being subjected to flyovers from fighter jets, drill teams, or marching bands. Anyone who simply wants to watch their favorite football team on a Sunday afternoon cannot do so without the now required greetings from uniformed troops in Camp Liberty, or Camp Freedom, or Camp Patriot in Iraq or Afghanistan.”

My concerns are not specific to any political party or personality.

Here’s the Republican position Re: making good on healthcare benefits for The Troops:

“Pulling the TRICARE Prime idea from a recent Congressional Budget Office report, McCain said forcing retirees under 65 to use TRICARE Standard, the fee-for-service option, or health insurance from civilian employers, or space-available care at base clinics or hospitals, could save DoD medical accounts up to $111 billion over the next decade.”

Both major parties move in a pro-war/anti-liberty direction.

JBLM soldier sentenced for waterboarding daughter

Abu Ghraib

When word came of the abuse at Abu Ghraib prison, government credibility was lost.

I never worked in a military prison. I can only imagine what proper procedures may require.

I served in various Marine units, stateside, peacetime & 2.5 years overseas ‘79-’99.

I was just the average guy in the average unit. Not guarding nuclear weapons, B-52 bombers, submarines, prisoners, etc. I never served in a war.

At a typical stateside, peacetime unit, watches were posted after normal working hours. NCOs were posted at the barracks to make rounds to make sure there were no fires, drinking, loud music, women staying overnight, people tearing up the place etc.

Something like a Staff Sergeant or Gunnery Sergeant (E6/7) or maybe a Lieutenant or Warrant Officer would be in charge of the whole battalion area after hours. These Marines would go check to make sure the motor transport lot was secure, no one was stealing diesel fuel, etc. They would check the personnel office, the chow hall, armory, work spaces, etc. They would check the barracks too, walking up the back way through the parking lot to see if anyone was drinking beer, etc. If they found something amiss, they would demand answers from the Marine posted at the barracks as to why he was not taking charge of the area.

There would be something like a Captain on watch at the higher headquarters and he would make the rounds too, so you would have several layers of supervision and accountability in place at all times.

A Marine on duty has no friends.

Anything goes wrong while you are standing “duty”- you will be held accountable- mess it up and you will pay.

When we went overseas we could not go out in town to drink beer without a “liberty brief” where you were told about local customs, courtesies, cultural sensitivities, how to get around without getting into trouble, etc.

This experience would be similar for hundreds of thousands of others who have served in uniform over the years.

I am thinking a military prison would have interior cameras- something like casino security and people of various ranks patrolling around to keep an eye on things in the wee hours.

What happened to the ancient military tradition of posting sentries to watch for things that are out of order?

The war in Iraq has involved operations in a region with huge cultural and religious sensitivities. How could anyone working in a military prison not be completely clear on the proper way to conduct business Re: military prisoners?

We have security cameras in our mini marts and casinos, but none in place to prevent international incidents inside our military prisons, or to counter the idea that people at the top had no clue what was going on.

Top level people retire.

Doublespeak-

“…pay levels overall are set too high as evidenced by the services’ continuous ability to meet recruiting and retention targets…”

Why are multiple National Guard deployments to distant lands- absent any military emergency, draft or declaration of war- required if the active force has all the bodies they need?

Cutting back on benefits used to entice people to reenlist during long wars…

How about letting people keep the plan that was in place when they signed up?

How about letting people keep the plan that was in place when they completed 20 years?

No definite benefit plan for people who volunteer to go to far away places and maybe never come back again-

Doublespeak-

“Panetta told reporters that defense officials “are going to protect the benefits that are provided to our troops and their families.”

But that doesn’t preclude changes to future benefits packages, or even cost-saving changes to current health care benefits and housing stipends.”

Of the planned $450 billion in cuts over the next 10 years, more than half would come by having retirees pick up more out-of-pocket healthcare and drug costs, and by reducing or changing the military retirement system going forward.

“…for retirees enrolled in TRICARE Prime, their costs would go up according to their pay increases that year.”

Pay increases?

The word is- The Dept. of Defense does not have enough cash for ongoing, undeclared wars and weapons– so they will make “The Troops” and former troops pay more for the benefits they earned when they volunteered to go to far away places and maybe never come back again.

Possible DOD cash savings here:

Stop using tax money for ongoing Washington National Guard deployments to distant lands- absent any military emergency, draft, or declaration of war.

Report: U.S. wasted $60 billion in contracting fraud, abuse

Plenty of DOD cash for more weapons.

The law raises the TRICARE Prime enrollment fees for military retirees and includes an indexed increase tied to the cost-of-living adjustment beginning in fiscal 2013.

June, 2011-

Defense Secretary Robert Gates

“…reassuring Marines at Camp Lejeune just weeks earlier that any change to retirement should not affect the current force. “So don’t get nervous,” he said.”

Raising healthcare fees won’t affect the current force?

“But any change to retirement would have to be grandfathered, Gates said, so no one in the service today is affected.”not true for healthcare.

“Gates’ remarks encourage that military compensation be part of planned defense cuts, suggesting excess dollars going today into compensation can be diverted over time to help replace aging fleets of aircraft, ships, submarines and land warfare vehicles.”

Or- take money from “The Troops” and hand it over to giant defense contractors.

Top level government officials begin their retirement while recommending cutbacks on benefits earned by “The Troops”after reminding us about a week ago of all the sacrifices veterans have made for our freedoms, etc.

No recommendation from these career federal employees to save money by keeping the National Guard and all the rest out of undeclared wars in the first place.

DOD has cash for new Drug War bases in Central & South America, the State Department is preparing to spend close to $3 billion to hire a security force to protect diplomats in Iraq after the U.S. pulls its last troops out of the country by year’s end- but it’s time to cut back on benefits earned by people who volunteered to go to far away places and maybe never come back again.

“During a June 2 session with reporters, Mullen said cuts should come from things like bloated staffs and unnecessary organizations — and military healthcare reform, once considered an untouchable program.

“We have to put initiatives in place over the mid-term that will then start to generate cash in the out years,” Mullen said.”

New Voice Joins the Call for Pay Cuts

“Recruitment and retention challenges could return if America does not do a better job now of producing more young men and women qualified for service.”

“Not a day goes by that we don’t ask how we can help our troops”

“…the department in its fiscal 2012 budget proposed raising TRICARE user fees on a gradual, sliding scale for working-age retirees.”

First Lady Pledges Support For Military Families

Having a staged lunch/photo op with military spouses on a giant stateside base will make it better.

Madam First Lady- what is your position on raising healthcare fees for 20 year veterans?

At graduation time-

If you have school-age sons and daughters- tell them to stay away from the US Armed Forces.

30 years ago- healthcare benefits were nowhere near the issue they are today & most Americans had little interest in doing time in uniform.

The country supports ongoing, undeclared wars in distant lands, but not a draft. National Guard troops face multiple deployments overseas- long after any emergency phase of operations. People who operated without the benefit of labor unions paid their dues to earn benefits & now the rules are changing.

Pentagon Wants Vets To Pay More For Health Care

Gates defends plan to raise some Tricare fees

VFW against TRICARE increase plans

Chairman of the Joint Chiefs of Staff says military healthcare fees must rise

Secretary of Defense says Tricare fees paid by military retirees must go up.

…”What medical plan in the nation has not had a single increase in the premium or co-pays in the last dozen years?”

What other plan has been earned by people who volunteer to go to far away places and maybe never come back again?

Notice Secretary Gates does not demand that congress properly fund the “All Volunteer” military that continues to fight 2 wars overseas- his solution is to have the guys that already did their time pay out of pocket to save the government some money here.

Semper Fi Secretary Gates!

Thanks for supporting “The Troops”

Jim Webb took a stand back in the 80’s and resigned as Secretary of the Navy because he refused to agree to reduce the size of the Navy.

We don’t see much of that any more. High level government officials get paid the same wether they take a stand or not. Maybe they are nominated because it is likely they will just go along with whatever comes their way.

There is federal money to move around to provide for bailouts, clean up after white collar crime, remind everyone to line up to get a converter box to keep old TVs running, etc.

Maintaining a definite healthcare package for those who signed on to go to far away places and maybe never come back again may not be such a priority.

Military Healthcare Benefits-

Some would say “Free” healthcare.

Not free- (there is already an enrollment fee- in order to make appointments- plus co-pays and prescription fees)- but earned as part of a deferred compensation/incentive package offered to qualified individuals who were willing to serve or continue to serve in the US Armed Forces.

Offered partly because of the supply and demand problem that has existed for decades- most Americans have no interest in taking on the wear and tear that comes with serving in the Armed Forces, fewer still are interested in investing a spare 20 years in making a career of the military.

We hear many good things about the generation who fought WWII. People lied about their age to serve. There was a draft. Women went in, along with movie stars, entertainers and sports celebrities- the whole country understood and was involved in the war effort. School kids participated. Most people probably had a family member who served or at least knew people who did.

Today, most people do not serve and we are most comfortable with an “All Volunteer” military- until it comes time to pay on promised benefits.

“Support the Troops” is a common slogan and big political parties push and shove to stake out their own reputation for “Supporting the Troops”.

It’s all good for the average American as long as slapping a Communist Chinese Yellow Ribbon magnet on the car means the dues are paid up.

Our “Something for Nothing” culture does not pause to consider a minority of citizens who have gone the extra mile to take risks and- in return- earn benefits.

The military package never was meant to be comparable with civilian benefits.

Name another job that you can not quit that requires random, unannounced drug testing.

The demands of the job are not comparable- but- all freely accepted with the understanding that some will be sent to far away places and never come back again- and- that it all counts towards earning a definite benefit package- and not the easy way.

People made decisions and sacrifices in order to serve or continue to serve based on an understanding of the benefits they were fighting for.

Message to parents, young adults, recruiters, educators, veteran’s groups, church groups, flag lapel pin wearers, politicians, football teams with flag stickers on helmets, 911 marketers, and “support the troops” promoters- Teach your children- “bait and switch” tactics are in effect. Know this before considering serving in the Armed Forces.

“… their main interaction with the boating public: Boarding boats and checking for ID, getting a “vibe,” as Jeff P. called it, for what’s up.”

What sort of ID is required to prove innocence away from border crossings and ports of entry?

Police State volunteers:

“Do you want to board us?” the skipper called over. “We’re going fishing and we wanted to proactively pull over so we don’t get stopped later.”

“But another audience member noted that her husband, while fishing, was checked out in one day by the Coast Guard, state Department of Fish and Wildlife, the Sheriff’s Department and Border Patrol.

“That seems ridiculous if all you’re doing is fishing,” she said.”

Federal grant money puts Clallam County Sheriff’’s Office into the fishing regulation enforcement and border security operations business.

This year, the Clallam County Marine Patrol increased its inspections-per-hour ratio from 1.5 to 3.3.

Marine Patrol made more than 1,000 on-water inspections.

How many of the stops were initiated based on any appearance of wrongdoing?

Stop using tax money for ongoing Washington National Guard deployments to distant lands- absent any military emergency, draft, or declaration of war.

The National Guard was never meant to be an enforcer of US foreign policy, or used for nation building schemes or occupational duties in foreign lands.

Spending on the Military Department (National Guard) appears to reflect the current dependence on the state guards as a central pillar in the US defense posture. In 2011-13 the Guard’s budget will be $308 million, which is 9 times in real terms the level of 1971.

Reaching for an honest understanding of public policy Re: The Fake War on Terror.

There is no point in having gunboats escort ferries if terrorists are free to put their boat on a trailer and drive it onto the ferry.

One of our local TV stations recently informed us about Homeland Security gunboats on Puget Sound.

Video here

This hard-hitting interview was an opportunity to answer most FAQs.

Serious subject matter- covered like an elementary school field trip down to the fire station- except- students might come up with some intelligent or interesting questions at the fire station.

What questions went unasked?

1) How does the gunboat protect the ferry if a bad guy is already onboard? The Washington State Patrol uses dogs to check vehicles at some ferry terminals on some days. Walk-on passengers are not checked at any terminal- at any time.

2) “Terrorists” (If they really are out to get us) can communicate just like teenagers- they can wait in line and ride the ferry just like anyone else. What would stop terrorists from riding the ferry and alerting each other if they see a US Coast Guard escort or Washington State Patrol dogs sniffing cars prior to loading?

3) If a terrorist wanted to get their boat dangerously close to a ferry- they could just put it on a trailer and drive it on- what would prevent this?

4) What stops terror strikes on the days US Coast Guard gunboats are not providing escorts on any given route or Washington State Patrol dogs are not on duty at any given terminal?

Conveniently- no hostages, bewildered passengers or suicide bombers in the staged ferry boat rescue at 0:45

Washington State Ferries propaganda video-

Washington State ferry passengers are advised via PA system to not leave backpacks or packages unattended during ferry crossings.

Meanwhile- on the car deck- cars, trucks, vans, commercial vehicles, etc. are left unattended during ferry crossings.

The Marine barracks in Beirut, Lebanon was blown up way back in 1983. Today, we are supposed to make believe that big money spent on Homeland Security shows will keep us safe– if the boogeyman really is out there.

We are told that public fishing access will not exist on the new and improved Hood Canal Bridge. Joe six-pack and the kids paid into the system by purchasing fishing licenses for years and now the welcome mat has been taken up because…why? Could it be security?

If loss of fishing access is linked to post 911 security, should we see US Coast Guard gun boats doing laps around the bridge to keep things safe?

None of this is about sneaky stuff, secret, undercover operations, etc. It is all right out there for the public to see, good guys and bad guys alike. The Puget Sound area includes a cluster of military bases. Every branch of the US Armed Forces has a presence here. Possibly large numbers of retired military people live here, yet, no-one ever seems to question what they see.

Local TV news channels hire neutered father figures to read the news. No sense of curiosity- no investigative reporting- to try and make sense of any of this.

The sight of gun boats escorting passenger ferries is a thought provoking experience for me- they appear ready to take on pirate boats, though terrorists prefer the surprise attack, not naval duels.

Investigative journalists don’t seem to notice.

Our dumbed-down Homeland Security messages assume that terrorists are bumbling fools. This might make us feel better, but does it make us more safe?

SWAT team trains for handling terrorism on a ferry

Just the ticket for the day “Terrorists” abandon the sneak attack (Oklahoma City, 911, USS Cole, US Marine barracks Beirut, etc.) and go with a good old fashioned shoot-out between the good guys and the bad guys.

It will be easy to spot an attempted strike. Expect the bad guys to be sloppy- the packages they send will look like they were put together by drunken 3rd graders, or Wile E Coyote.

If the wars overseas are important enough for our guys to be getting arms and legs blown off, why do federal agents at US ports of entry only attempt to stop 30% of terrorists crossing through them:

The goal for federal agents at US ports of entry is to stop 30% of terrorists and other illegal traffic.

Illegal drugs can travel from anywhere on the globe to anywhere in N. America.

Ditto for terrorists.

2 undeclared wars in distant lands and the invention of the US Dept. of Homeland Security have done nothing to change this.

Terrorists have access to hundreds of crowded public places in the US- free of federal supervision, screening, scanning, pat downs, etc.- why aren’t they blowing themselves up at these locations?

The federal government must have magic crime fighting powers to stop terrorists. The magic powers don’t work on crimes like bank robbery or drug trafficking.

It will be easy to spot an attempted strike. Expect the bad guys to be sloppy- the packages they send will look like they were put together by drunken 3rd graders, or Wile E Coyote.

Lead tainted toys show up in Seattle-

“While our priority mission is to prevent terrorists and their weapons from entering the country, we are also responsible for keeping a wide variety of harmful products from reaching the American marketplace,” U.S. Customs and Border Protection Area Port Director Roland Suliveras Jr. said in a news release. “Lead-contaminated toys are one such product.”

Do we wait to check for terrorists and their weapons until they arrive at the Seattle waterfront?

We did in 2006-

22 Smuggled Chinese Arrested at the Seattle Seaport

Note- the headline reports the arrest- further into the article we see that prior to the arrest- people released themselves from a shipping container and wandered around the pier in the wee hours.

“Once again, CBP was on the scene as the first line of defense in cargo security and against dangerous illegal activity posing a threat to our nation’s security,” said Tom Hardy, CBP director of field operations for Seattle. “CBP screens 100 percent of all maritime containers that pose a risk for terrorism at foreign ports before they are shipped to the United States.”

But not the containers used to transport human cargo?

Future Attribute Screening Technology (FAST) Project

What would stop bad-ass terrorists- the kind we’re supposed to stay scared of- from blowing themselves up just prior to stepping into the thought police van?

A 19 year old Marine with no more than a high school education & half drunk would be asking about this- but high level government employees are paid to market fear and safety all at once.

What prevents terror strikes at hundreds of events & locations unsupervised by federal authorities?

We are hearing ongoing reports of children enduring TSA pat downs at the airport.

Much talk about body scanners in airports- super high tech tools to keep us safe.

Compliant, predictable and well behaved terrorists will be stopped by body scanners and thought police technology- the bad-ass terrorists we’re supposed to stay scared of- will just blow themselves up in a crowded airport- prior to being scanned.

What stops terrorists from blowing themselves up in any crowded public place- just this side of the K-9 units, body language experts, body scanners and pat downs?

If federal SWAT teams are required for Super Bowl security- what prevents terror strikes at hundreds of events unsupervised by federal authorities?

Gunboats escorting ferries on Puget Sound-

Living in a land of Homeland Security make believe is not going to make us more safe.

Conveniently- no suicide bombers, hostages, passengers or bewildered civilians in this staged ferry take down-

Send more money for federal SWAT teams.

Just the ticket for the day “Terrorists” abandon the sneak attack (Oklahoma City, 911, USS Cole, US Marine barracks Beirut, etc.) and go with a good old fashioned shoot-out between the good guys and the bad guys.

The goal for federal agents at US ports of entry is to stop 30% of terrorists and other illegal traffic.

Hey VFW, Hey American Legion, Hey Joint Chiefs of Staff- what do you think about 30%?

Still no justification provided by elected officials or the US Border Patrol for an upgrade in staff requiring a new $11.9 million, 50 agent facility at Port Angeles- an area sharing no land border with Canada.

Urban legend: The US Border Patrol stopped the Millennium Bomber at Port Angeles-

Ahmed Ressam was captured at the traditional port of entry at Port Angeles by Customs Inspectors wearing blue uniforms- not by Border Patrol Agents wearing green uniforms.

“On March 1, 2003, the Department of Homeland Security (DHS) was established, and the U.S. Border Patrol became part of U.S. Customs and Border Protection, a component of DHS.”

The US Border Patrol is the primary federal law enforcement agency between the ports-of-entry.

How many US Border Patrol agents were stationed at Port Angeles in 1999?

Aug 2010-

A US Border Patrol spokesperson tells the press:

“Border Patrol spokeswoman Jenny Burke said Monday that the agency will not release any information on the number of arrests made by agents who work out of the Port Angeles station, the names of those arrested, what they were arrested for and the disposition of their cases”

“The number of arrests for Port Angeles’ or any other station is “law enforcement-sensitive,” Burke said.”

“The names of those arrested and other facts about them are not available for release under the 1974 Privacy Act, she said.”

Aug 2011-

“In March, Supervisory Border Patrol Agent Richard Sinks declined to release statistics on apprehensions or detainments made by the Port Angeles station.”

“Disclosure of the arrest statistics from the Port Angeles station would provide those interested in crossing our borders illegally with information that could aid their strategic targeting of potentially vulnerable areas along the border,” he said in an e-mail. “To maintain operational security these numbers will not be provided.”

Imagine a school district wanting to expand staff and facilities and, at the same time- suppressing public information Re: the number of students enrolled, teachers on staff and number of students graduated in the past 36 months.

“…the Border Patrol has refused to divulge the number of agents in Port Angeles…”

Big-time terrorist takedowns go public– while local Border Patrol arrests must be done in secret?

Meanwhile- sensitive DHS documents are released to the public at a garage sale.

Perhaps the new USBP outreach program will take time to explain why- in the whole wide world of law enforcement work- does the Port Angeles US Border Patrol station tell us they can’t report arrests because that would help the bad guys- yet crimes handled by local law enforcement agencies & the FBI are reported as public information?

Ask yourself- why doesn’t the local car dealership have 42 sales people on staff?

Why doesn’t the local real estate office expand to a 50 agent facility?

Local, US Border Patrol timeline:

2006- Staffing level at USBP Port Angeles station is 4 agents.

“In 2006, four agents worked in the Port Angeles headquarters, which covers both Clallam and Jefferson counties. That number had increased to 24 by April 2009. By last August, the staff was 25.”

2008- Jefferson CountyCheckpoints begin– then end- after local complaints and protests.

Suspicionless bus boardings take place at Discovery Bay.

State and local LE agencies do not conduct DUI/suspicionless checkpoints in Washington State.

Question about providing ID is at 0:35

War on Terror- credibility squandered.

May 2010- Two amphibious Canadian marijuana smugglers are captured on a remote Olympic Peninsula beach by the US Border Patrol.

Secret arrest policy instantly lifted if something to brag about takes place?

Aug 2010- US Border Patrol dictates a news blackout on local arrests while moving to establish a 50 agent station at Port Angeles.

March 2011- Local paper submits FOIA request for USBP arrest numbers to justify new 50 agent station. FOIA request denied. FOIA appeal denied.

March 2011- 30 day public comment period for 50 agent station project. Public comments have never been released, published or discussed- project has moved forward.

May 2011- The Benjamin Roldan Salinas incident.

Best case scenario- local (Olympic Peninsula) reporters would have investigated the mysterious practice of federal officers conducting “traffic stops” on US Highway 101.

Why was the vehicle stopped on U.S. 101 by a U.S. Forest Service officer?

How did the officer first know about the salal? Did they have a permit? How much salal was in the vehicle? Was it legal? Anything related to a police report as to why and where the vehicle was stopped? What became of the salal- if there was any at the scene?

Aug 2011- Agent Sanchez reports USBP staffing level is now 40 agents & fraudulent overtime clams are the norm.

Aug 2011- Post 911 efforts to keep terrorists from visiting the homeland- still unable to keep illegal drugs out.

Sept 2011- Congressman Norm Dicks says USBP whistleblower lacks credibility. A proper investigation will reveal the truth- where is the report Congressman?

Sept 2011- Is the US Border Patrol relaxing a news blackout on Olympic Peninsula arrests? Maybe just reacting to the whistleblower story last month?

Sept 2011- Border Patrol offers more outreach.

Oct 2011- Any results on investigations of fraudulent overtime claims? DHS is probably best served by stalling on this. Our Washington State Patrol opened a criminal investigation in a similar case.

Oct 2011- Local, USBP news blackout continues to show signs of easing. Any arrests of persons crossing the Strait of Juan de Fuca? Efforts to prevent Central American immigrants from crossing into the US might best be conducted from US Border Patrol stations 1500 miles south of Port Angeles.

Oct 2011- Cross-border traffic threatens Olympic National Park? Bill before U.S. House would give Border Patrol unprecedented powers in Olympic National Park

Olympic National Park now designated as US/Canada border?

Though the Olympic Peninsula may not warrant tactics used 1500 miles south of this location- central planning provides one size fits all solutions to perceived post-911 problems.

Oct 2011- Seattle paper has no problem obtaining Border Patrol Police Report.

Newspapers on the Olympic Peninsula are not in the habit of obtaining the equivalent of a police report Re: local US Border Patrol arrests- they are more prone to deliver the message that local US Border Patrol arrests will not be reported.

Oct 2011- Any arrests of people crossing the Strait of Juan de Fuca?

Oct 2011- Increased Border Patrol staffing fails to keep the heroin out.

Nov 2011- “The report is always limited to one page regardless of the number of arrests made, includes only those arrests selected by the agency for public release and does not include apprehensions that result in ongoing investigations.”

Sounds like something out of the Soviet Union.

A free and independent press plays no role here in questioning public policy- simply passing down dictates from above.

So, if this guy is arrested it might be done in secret if the one page report is already full, the arrest is not selected by the agency for public release or is an apprehension that results in an ongoing investigation?

Nov 2011- “A request for assistance during a traffic stop being conducted by an Olympic National Park ranger in a remote area of U.S. Highway 101 southwest of Forks resulted in the arrest of a Mexican national illegally in the U.S.”

Looks like federal agents are now doing traffic stops on U.S. Highway 101?

When folks head out to cut their Christmas tree in the National Forest- do they get stopped by federal officers on U.S. Highway 101 for a quick check & inspection to validate permits, vehicle contents & cargo?

Nov 2011- Border Patrol stops bus searches

“A Customs and Border Protection spokesman, Bill Brooks, repeatedly insisted any shift in enforcement tactics does not amount to a change in policy. He said local commanders retain authority to pursue illegal immigrants near the border and at transportation hubs.”

Nov 2011- Border Patrol launches Twitter account

“…officials in Washington, D.C., have refused to release aggregate arrest figures for Clallam and Jefferson counties for what they say are security reasons.”

Translation: We haven’t made enough arrests out of the Port Angeles USBP station over the past 36 months to justify the new 50 agent facility coming to Port Angeles in the spring of 2012. Public information will not be released if it reflects poorly on the Dept. of Homeland Security.

Any other law enforcement agencies observing the do not report arrest numbers due to security reasons protocol?

No public information/security conflict at the U.S. Border Patrol station (not sector, which is an arbitrary federal zone- confusing by design) in Erie, PA.

Erie Station– similar to Port Angeles in that it is separated from Canada by water.

Note: reports of the expansion at Erie include numbers of arrests out of that station:

“The Border Patrol operations in Erie, nearly six years old, include more than 30 agents who apprehended 588 illegal immigrants in fiscal year 2008-09.”

“The Border Patrol’s apprehensions in the Erie area have grown steadily, from 332 in fiscal 2006-2007 to 588 in 2008-09 to 305 so far in 2009-10.

Of those apprehended so far this fiscal year, 136 were individuals found by other law enforcement agencies and turned over to the Border Patrol.”

Nov 2011- Local US Border Patrol arrests have been regularly reported since Agent Sanchez came forward in late July.

Nov 2011- “…two Guatemalan citizens arrested during a traffic stop near Forks…”

Federal agents now doing traffic stops on the Olympic Peninsula?

Local (Olympic Peninsula) reporters fail to question the practice.

Why was the vehicle stopped?

Local papers have no problem working with local law enforcement agencies to publish detailed arrest reports– why are federal arrests any different?

Local paper able to coordinate with foreign authorities Re: mishap at sea in Mexican waters– yet details of arrests taking place in Clallam County go unreported.

Jan 2012- Forks site of several Border Patrol detentions

Any arrests of people crossing the Strait of Juan de Fuca?

If local arrests are not connected in any way to the US/Canada border- maybe every Port Angeles sized town- all across America- should have its own 50 agent US Border Patrol station.

Feb 2012- More community outreach

(see Sept 2011- Border Patrol offers more outreach)

“The number of Border Patrol agents operating out of the Port Angeles station grew from 36 in mid-September to 42 as of Friday, said George Behan, a spokesman for U.S. Rep Norm Dicks, whose 6th Congressional District includes Clallam and Jefferson counties.

That doesn’t include air and marine interdiction agents with the Office of Air and Marine who operate out of a headquarters on Port of Port Angeles-owned property at 1908 O St. in Port Angeles.

It also doesn’t include agents from the Office of Field Operations who monitor the U.S. port of entry at the Port Angeles ferry dock.

All three agencies operate under the administrative umbrella of U.S. Customs and Border Protection.

Office of Air and Marine spokesman Mike Milne said Friday he could not, for security reasons, release the number of interdiction agents based in Port Angeles.”

The US Navy provides similar info Re: submarines assigned in Kitsap County.

Clallam County Sheriff Bill Benedict –

“I still stand by the fact that I have questions about whether we truly need 60 or 70 agents,” “a total Benedict posited by estimating the number of Border Patrol agents combined with Office of Air and Marine interdiction agents and Office of Field Operations agents.”

Feb 2012- Border Patrol arrests include two near Forks

“The Border Patrol does not issue a complete report.

Reports are always limited to one page regardless of how many arrests are made and do not include the genders of those arrested or any arrests made that result in ongoing investigations.”

Is the US Border Patrol the only law enforcement agency making use of these bizarre and arbitrary reporting procedures?

Still no Olympic Peninsula arrests connected to the US/Canada border or people crossing the Strait of Juan de Fuca.

Feb 2012- “Agents apprehended two citizens of Guatemala as a result of a vehicle stop near Forks.”

Why was the vehicle stopped by federal agents?

How many Olympic Peninsula US Border Patrol arrests are connected in any way to the US/Canada border?

Efforts to prevent Central American immigrants from crossing into the US might best be conducted from US Border Patrol stations 1500 miles south of Forks.

Feb 2012- Same story as above- reported by a different news outlet: “The Guatemalan nationals arrested near Forks, apprehended during a vehicle stop, were processed for removal from the United States, the Border Patrol said.”

Looks like vehicle stops by federal agents are the norm.

Don’t look for local (Olympic Peninsula) reporters to ask why the vehicle was stopped.

Feb 2012- “Agents arrested a subject who had an immigration detainer and was scheduled to be released from the jail in Forks. The subject, a Mexican citizen illegally present in the U.S., was in possession of both a fraudulent permanent resident card and fraudulent social security card. The subject was processed for removal.”

March 2012-

We’re just weeks away from the grand opening of a new, $5.7 million 50 Agent US Border Patrol station at Port Angeles- an area sharing no land border with Canada.

June 2012- Very busy time for the Port Angeles Border Patrol.

“06/04/2012- While patrolling the border, Port Angeles Border Patrol agents encountered an individual west of Pillar Point near Clallam Bay. The agents determined that the individual was a citizen of Mexico who admitted to being illegally present in the United States. The subject was placed under arrest and processed for removal.”

“While patrolling the border”- first time I have seen this phrase used in a local report.

Did the citizen of Mexico cross illegally into the US via the Strait of Juan de Fuca?

Was this arrest connected in any way to the US/Canada border?

Aug 2012- U.S. Reps. call for probe of Border Patrol authority

Sept 2012- Grand opening of the $9.8 million, 50 agent US Border Patrol station at Port Angeles- access restricted “only to media with credentials and invited guests

This local story has been developing for years now. There has been plenty of time for people with the advantage of a press credential to schedule appointments, do interviews & ask questions. Unfortunately- local reporters are not in the habit of doing so.

Perhaps four handguns could have saved thousands on 911?

Perhaps four handguns could have saved thousands on 911?

American culture is OK with lies told about US foreign policy and where military service fits into our way of life.

Somewhere after 911- many patriotic Americans seem to have embraced the idea that The Troops are fighting to protect our rights and freedoms– as if the US Armed Forces function as some sort of giant civil rights organization.

“Let us never forget those who bravely gave their life blood or paid the ultimate price so we can have our freedom and the right to vote.”

It turns out “The Troops” were in no hurry to enable all adults to act on their right to vote.

US Military operations conducted in the 1940s, 50s & 60s didn’t get the job done.

It wasn’t until July of 1971 that 18 year old adults could take delivery on one of the freedoms we hear so much about.

If veterans fought for our right to vote- how come women were not allowed to vote at the end of WWI?

How about the National Minimum Drinking Age Act of 1984– it stripped the 50 states of the “freedom” to set their own minimum drinking age- where were The Troops?

Memorial Day 2011-

“…take this time to recognize those currently serving in the Armed Forces as they continue to fight to protect the liberties that we have come to appreciate.”

Memorial Day 2009-

Still more than 2 weeks away and here is a letter that reminds us of the meaning of this important day.

The letter writer and several of those who commented made mention of the troops “fighting for our freedom.”

When we were told that our concealed carry permit was void on local, federal National Parks lands– did the Joint Chiefs of Staff send out “The Troops” to restore American rights and freedoms?

Any support from The Department of Defense Re: various state’s efforts to legalize marijuana?

Are The Joint Chiefs of Staff working to reverse a federal ban on online poker games?

Are The Troops standing in the way of warrantless searches of homes and apartments?

How about Delayed-Notice Search Warrants?

How about warrantless use of hidden surveillance cameras?

SCOTUS Approves Search Warrants Issued by Dogs

How about warrantless DNA collection?

How about suspicionless data mining of phone records?

How about a federal law that requires social security numbers to be submitted for fishing licenses? A totalitarian- guilty until proven innocent scheme to track down dead beat dads– as if digging a bucket of clams has anything to do with child support payments.

When the US Armed Forces are sent to Lebanon, Somalia, Haiti, Bosnia, Vietnam, etc.- how is that defending the US Constitution– or our rights and freedoms, or our physical security?

When we return from an undeclared war or military conflict without a victory- what becomes of American rights and freedoms?

One person wrote: “…spend this Memorial Day honoring those who have defended your right to have an opinion on this matter.”

As if we are wards of the state or mindless drones– somehow dependent on people in military uniforms to enable us to think or to have an opinion.

If the troops are fighting for American rights and freedoms- why were black people still riding at the back of the bus after the big WWII victory?

Freedom isn’t free?

If a house is prevented from burning, is it because firefighters protect our rights and freedoms?

Think of your local fire dept.- it serves a clear-cut purpose, no need for people to repeat phrases or slogans in order to justify its existence.

We don’t claim that firefighters protect our rights and freedoms- as if they are part of some kind of civil rights organization.

US foreign policy goals and objectives are mapped out at the very highest levels of government.

Ask yourself- is there someone at the table- in those high level planning sessions- who makes sure that military operations overseas include a mission to protect American rights and freedoms?

Does someone make sure the mission is to defend the constitution?

Is there anyone who verifies that the mission is to protect our physical security?

How does the executive branch of government defend the constitution via US foreign policy?

Many veterans refer to their oath of enlistment Re: defending the constitution- when & how do The Troops act on behalf of the executive branch of government to defend the constitution?

If the US Armed Forces are somehow connected to defending the constitution- how did public policy serve up due-process-free assassinations?

Never Forget-

The US Armed Forces were irrelevant in defending American rights and freedoms, our physical security, & The Constitution on 911.

Ditto for all other federal agencies and departments.

Post 911 efforts to keep terrorists from visiting the homeland- still unable to keep illegal drugs out.

‘Uptick’ in heroin use seen on North Olympic Peninsula

People who question US foreign policy on newspaper websites are told:

“You wouldn’t have the freedom to post your nonsense if people were not giving their lives in Iraq and Afghanistan to protect that freedom”, etc.

Hey school teachers- where did this idea come from? Were US troops sent to Vietnam so that Americans could be free to send letters to the editor?

Is there any case in which the US Armed Forces have been sent to distant lands on a mission to protect freedom of speech?

Is protecting freedom of speech even part of training scenarios?

If The Troops are fighting for your freedom to share ideas on the web- why would you be scolded for doing so?

Some will say people in uniform “give” http://www.iwvpa.net/provincecm/ us our freedoms- totally disregarding the concept of natural rights.

Others will say we’d be speaking a language or practicing a religion not of our choosing- if not for veterans:

“Support your troops.  Support all military,” Mowl said. “If it wasn’t for them, you wouldn’t be here.  It’s the same as the World War II vets – if it weren’t for them, we’d be speaking German now.”

The free and well armed people who populate the North American continent could be forced to speak a language not of their choosing?

Doubt it.

Please see Operation Sea Lion.

The world’s most modern & powerful military force has had their hands full for years now trying to pacify the locals in the Greater Middle East.

We’ve got such a good handle on the situation- National Guard units are doing multiple tours in distant lands– absent any military emergency, draft, or declaration of war.

We’re not in the habit of winning decades of undeclared wars overseas– why would we think they have any bearing on the language we choose to speak- or on American rights and freedoms in any sense?

Public policy stands in the way of freedom- a situation completely unrelated to military operations in distant lands.

Military service is honorable. In some cases, it provides for our physical security. That’s as good as it gets.

In terms of American rights and freedoms- The Dept. of Defense has no more say than the Dept. of Agriculture.

Best thanks for a veteran-

Reach for an honest understanding of US foreign policy.
