Looks like the surveillance state (fusion centers, war on terror crime fighting tactics, license plate scanners, Homeland Security grant money, monitoring of e-mails, text messages, and social media sites, tracking of cell phones, use of drones, etc.) will be powerless to stop terrorist activity in the US:
NFL TEAMS TO ENHANCE PUBLIC SAFETY AND
IMPROVE STADIUM ACCESS FOR FANS
Bags that are clear plastic, vinyl or PVC and do not exceed 12″ x 6″ x 12.” (Official NFL team logo clear plastic tote bags will be available through club merchandise outlets or at nflshop.com/allclear), or
One-gallon clear plastic freezer bag (Ziploc bag or similar).
What prevents the badass terrorists we are supposed to stay scared of from blowing themselves up in a crowded airport just short of the screening checkpoint?
Ditto for hundreds of events nationwide each year at rock concerts, baseball games, basketball games, pro sports events, college events, etc.
How about city transit buses- any security screening required to walk up to a bus stop and take a seat on the bus?
Add in university campuses, hospitals, ferry boats, day care centers, etc., & it looks like terrorists have had daily opportunities to cause disruption- even though we are told that sending US Troops overseas is somehow preventing bad people from traveling to the US.
Intense security focus for the big game- what prevents terrorists from going 2 states over & blowing up a day care facility?
Heroin traffickers show the way-
Heroin traffickers are frequently successful at what they do. If terrorists were just as interested in entering the US- it appears that federal departments and agencies would have no way to stop them.
But- using (not abusing) marijuana is against federal law?
It took a constitutional amendment to prohibit the sale of a glass of wine- why no constitutional amendment to authorize a federal war on drugs, drug czar, prohibition of marijuana, etc.
How about folks who “use” a few beers or a shot of whiskey during happy hours at bars and restaurants all across America- are they stripped of their natural rights?
How about folks who “use” fermented grapes during trips to wine country in Eastern, WA?- no more firearms for them?
With federal approval:
How about using legal anti-depression meds that may bring on thoughts of suicide (0:34)
Do people who take legal drugs that may bring on thoughts of suicide loose the ability to purchase or possess firearms?
This hard-hitting interview was an opportunity to answer most FAQs.
Serious subject matter- covered like an elementary school field trip down to the fire station- except- students might come up with some intelligent or interesting questions at the fire station.
What questions went unasked?
1) How does the gunboat protect the ferry if a bad guy is already onboard? The Washington State Patrol uses dogs to check vehicles at some ferry terminals on some days. Walk-on passengers are not checked at any terminal- at any time.
2) “Terrorists” (If they really are out to get us) can communicate just like teenagers- they can wait in line and ride the ferry just like anyone else. What would stop terrorists from riding the ferry and alerting each other if they see a US Coast Guard escort or Washington State Patrol dogs sniffing cars prior to loading?
3) If a terrorist wanted to get their boat dangerously close to a ferry- they could just put it on a trailer and drive it on- what would prevent this?
4) What stops terror strikes on the days US Coast Guard gunboats are not providing escorts on any given route or Washington State Patrol dogs are not on duty at any given terminal?
Video promoting the drug war-
Another report treating viewers as if they are part of an elementary school field trip:
Heroin traffickers have no Army, Navy, Air Force or Dept. of Homeland Security. They are frequently successful at what they do. If terrorists were just as interested in entering the US- it appears that federal departments and agencies would have no way to stop them.
Maybe the folks who don’t want the memorial are looking past the symbolism, ceremony & emotion towards what has gone on in Washington State during the War on Terror.
Still no justification provided by elected officials or the US Border Patrol for an upgrade in staff requiring a new, $11.9 million, 50 agent facility.
Secret arrest statistics, denied FOIA requests, heroin in the community & a Border Patrol whistleblower investigation that resulted in further suppression of information- keep the focus on asking questions in these areas.
If public meetings were held on Whidbey Island & people were asked to state their top law enforcement priorities- would a Homeland Security patrol boat show up anywhere on the list?
If the Sheriff was interviewed & asked for his wish list- is there any possibility that it would include a Homeland Security patrol boat?
Took a quick look on the web to see if there is a post 911 history of maritime “cross-border activity” on Whidbey & could not find anything. If anyone has info, please post in comments.
Local crime problem unrelated to Homeland Security concerns:
Ever notice that the surveillance society, fusion centers, war on terror crime fighting tactics, license plate scanners, Homeland Security grant money, monitoring of e-mails, text messages, and social media sites, tracking of cell phones, use of drones, etc. seems to fail at stopping hardcore bad guys?
No matter how advanced the surveillance state becomes- it doesn’t seem to be able to prevent the sorts of crimes that concern communities across America.
Track record of winning undeclared wars overseas has fallen drastically since 1945.
The world’s most modern & powerful military force has had their hands full for years now trying to pacify the locals in the Greater Middle East.
We’ve got such a good handle on the situation- National Guard units are doing multiple tours in distant lands- absent any military emergency, draft, or declaration of war:
“Weirdest moment of the Copper River Salmon arrival and celebrity chef cook-off: Seahawks kicker Steven Hauschka coaching soldiers how to kick the head of a salmon.”
Took a quick look on the web to see if there is a post 911 history of maritime “cross-border activity” on Whidbey & could not find anything. If anyone has info, please post in comments.
Over on the Olympic Peninsula- post 911 cash has beefed up coastal security:
Port of Port Angeles-
$701,063 Federal Emergency Management Agency grant:
Still no justification provided by elected officials or the US Border Patrol for an upgrade in staff requiring a new, $11.9 million, 50 agent facility.
Secret arrest statistics, denied FOIA requests, heroin in the community & a Border Patrol whistleblower investigation that resulted in further suppression of information- keep the focus on asking questions in these areas.
Back when marijuana was legal- in the days when Americans were inventing and producing light bulbs, automobiles, airplanes, etc.
Dr. Freng,
It took a constitutional amendment to prohibit the sale of a glass of wine-why no constitutional amendment to authorize a federal war on drugs, drug czar, prohibition of marijuana, etc.
Allowing legal, domestic production of marijuana would serve to eliminate a portion of distraction and potential corruption at the border.
Next time, how about a formal congressional declaration of war. During that process we can hear from elected officials on related public policy issues:
If your War on Terror troops are in the business of protecting America- why do heroin traffickers cross into the US free of screening, scanning, pat downs, special IDs, inspection of personal items, etc.
Heroin traffickers are frequently successful at what they do. If terrorists were just as interested in entering the US- it appears that federal departments and agencies would have no way to stop them.
More meaningful questions might relate to why checks and balances such as formal congressional declarations of war have gone away.
It took a constitutional amendment to prohibit the sale of a glass of wine-why no constitutional amendment to authorize a federal war on drugs, drug czar, prohibition of marijuana, etc.
US foreign policy goals and objectives are mapped out at the very highest levels of government.
Ask yourself- is there someone at the table- in those high level planning sessions- who makes sure that military operations overseas include a mission to protect American rights and freedoms?
Does someone make sure the mission is to defend the constitution?
Is there anyone who verifies that the mission is to protect our physical security?
How does the executive branch of government defend the constitution via US foreign policy?
Why are small children forced to memorize a pledge to a symbol- then repeat the pledge every morning at school?
Marriage vows are not repeated daily.
Judges & elected officials do not repeat an oath of office each morning at work.
People in the US Armed Forces do not repeat an oath of enlistment each morning at work.
“Freeman reportedly said he and his girlfriend were sick from heroin withdrawal. He said he couldn’t take it anymore and decided to rob a bank, explaining that it was something he had thought about doing before, the report states.”
Allowing legal, domestic production of marijuana would serve to eliminate a portion of distraction and potential corruption at the border- but we can’t have that in a free society.
“A civilian truck driver with a criminal record shot and killed Petty Officer 2nd Class Mark Mayo aboard the USS Mahan in March after driving onto Naval Station Norfolk, walking onto a pier and onto the ship’s quarterdeck. The Navy said Jeffrey Tyrone Savage disarmed a sailor guarding the ship and used her weapon to fire the fatal shots at Mayo, who jumped between the disarmed sailor and Savage. Savage was later shot and killed by Navy personnel in a shootout aboard the ship.”
Young people- please consider avoiding a career in the US Armed Forces.
Why?
Ongoing, undeclared/unwon wars in distant lands while heroin traffickers cross into the US free of screening, scanning, pat downs, special IDs, inspection of personal items, etc.
Constant proposals to play bait & switch with the traditional DOD military benefits that were used to entice people to stay for multiple tours in Iraq and Afghanistan.
How about just letting people keep the same benefits they had when they did their first of multiple tours in Iraq or Afghanistan?
Recommendation-
Insert language into recruiting literature and enlistment documents stating that rules concerning benefits may change at any time & that no definite benefit package will be provided in exchange for 20 years of unrestricted worldwide service. No grandfather clause will apply. Have unit leaders refer to this disclaimer when promoting retention drives, giving re-enlistment speeches, etc.
Stop spending federal money on meaningless support the troops promotions, campaigns and VIP photo ops that are not connected in any way with public policy.
Here is a hand selected lady who was surprised (1:12) to get a phone call of support from The First Lady- even though cameras were rolling in her home when the phone rang:
Recommendations for saving:
Phase out decades of ongoing, undeclared/unwon wars overseas. Phase out the Drug War, allow U.S. farmers to answer the global demand for Industrial Hemp.
In many cases- newspapers seem to post a press release from whatever agency was in involved in various operations. Stories related to The Drug War and Super Bowl security are a great example of this.
Paywalls mean less people will read, share and discuss news articles.
Our free and independent press recently informed us on Olympic Peninsula US Border Patrol operations.
The article reads like paid advertising or something produced by US Border Patrol public relations.
Most of the photos used in the article were provided by the federal government.
JFK speaks about the role of the press in a free society-
Note: legal sales of recreational marijuana have started in only one state: Colorado
Allowing legal, domestic production of marijuana would serve to eliminate a portion of distraction and potential corruption at the border- but we can’t have that in a free society.
Heroin traffickers are frequently successful at what they do. If terrorists were just as interested in entering the US- it appears that federal departments and agencies would have no way to stop them.
Don’t worry-
The Super Bowl and public affairs will be safe-
Newspeople- please consider doing a report/asking questions Re: why the US Department of Homeland Security/proud War on Terror is unable to keep heroin out of the US.
No matter how advanced the surveillance state becomes- it doesn’t seem to be able to prevent the sorts of crimes that concern communities across America.
If you have nothing to hide- why would you object?
