A US Armed Forces recruiting crisis has been in place. How do lies and propaganda Re: overseas military operations relate to attracting new recruits?

Decades after the lessons of Vietnam, the Pentagon seems to specialize in undeclared/unwon wars.

Understandable why young people & their parents & grandparents would take a dim view on all this.

Elected officials, newspeople, sports announcers and high level DOD civilians speak of the US Armed Forces as if they function as some sort of giant civil rights organization.

The idea that the US Armed Forces are sent to distant lands to defend American rights and freedoms is repeated many times over.

The reality is that American freedoms may come and go and appear to be completely unrelated to military operations/US Troops in distant lands, or the Sound of Freedom.

Something from the last century

I’ve never been one to say that military benefits are inadequate. Just stick with whatever was offered when people signed up to stay on for multiple tours in Iraq and Afghanistan and we’re good.

Turn the clock back 40 years. It’s 1984. The base commissary is well thought of and is a solid benefit to those who did 20 years in uniform. Go there to shop and you will see WWII veterans. Korean War veterans, Vietnam War veterans and anyone else who stayed for 20 years.

This benefit is an incentive for active duty people to show up for 20 years of unrestricted worldwide service.

It’s the early 80s.

People do time in uniform. No controversy. No thanks for your service (a good thing). This was a period of Cold War era peacetime stability.

The US Armed Forces were on the back burner, right where they are meant to be.

No US Armed Forces recruiting crisis.

Things will change.

2018

The Dept. of Defense was nowhere to be found on 911.

The catastrophic military failure of 911 brings on decades of undeclared/unwon DOD wars.

In the news 2018:

“Surveys show commissaries are the second most valued benefit after health care, Barna said. Both the department and Congress want the benefit sustained.”

“At the same time, the department has set annual targets DeCA must hit to lower its appropriation from $1.4 billion in 2017 to $400 million by 2021. Military leaders have testified they want that that billion dollars in savings to applied to more critical readiness needs.”

It is expensive to manage these wars that drag on for years. Where to cut costs? How about a benefit earned by people who already did 20 years in uniform?

Commissaries are defunded. The benefit has now been altered and is not as good a deal as it once was. Smart shoppers go elsewhere. Uncle Sam says “Why fund the commissary if less people want to shop there?”

“The Defense Department’s top two executives overseeing commissaries — one responsible for all military resale policies and the other for day-to-day operation of 237 commissaries worldwide — have conceded in separate interviews that falling sales are alarming and must be reversed.”

Falling sales toughen the task and “probably puts the benefit more at risk,” Bianchi said, raising concerns at DoD and in Congress about the value the benefit. “That’s clearly a concern,” Bianchi said, “that ‘Gee, if patrons aren’t using it, is that something we should still be funding?’ ”

We can’t have poor sales numbers. We will not put the benefit back to the way it was when people signed up to stay on for multiple tours in Iraq and Afghanistan.

We will open up eligibility and get more people to show up to shop on base.

2018 Solution- Commissary employees to get shopping benefits

No need to volunteer to go to far away places and maybe never come back again. If you work at the facility-you now qualify for this traditional benefit.

The traditional/pre-2018 group who would shop at the commissary:

“Among those who are currently authorized to shop in commissaries are active duty, Guard and reserve members; retirees; Medal of Honor recipients; 100 percent disabled veterans; and their family members.”

2020 Solution- Open the doors to those who did not do 20 years in uniform – 0% disability

“About 4 million veterans with at least a 0% VA-documented service-connected disability became eligible by law in 2020 for commissary, exchange and certain MWR benefits.”

Once an incentive to stay for 20, now maybe an incentive to qualify for a 0 percent disability.

What is a zero-percent disability rating?

Claims agents are standing by:

“So what about zero-percent ratings? A veteran may be rated at zero percent, which means that a service-connected condition exists, but that it does not affect his or her ability to function.”

San Diego area military bases to open gates to thousands more veterans in 2020

0 % disability

Out there in the world, somewhere, there are people who believe military benefits are too generous. Wait until they find out that their neighbor now gets a lifetime shopping on base privilege after doing 4 years in uniform and coming away with a 0 percent disability. Wait until the average person learns what it takes to qualify for a 0 percent disability.

The idea that military benefits are too generous will catch on as time goes on.

If the general public begins to believe the benefits are too generous, it will be easier to make moves to downsize benefits earned in exchange for 20 years of unrestricted worldwide service and save more DOD cash later on.

2024 – That didn’t fix it

At one time: An incentive for people to stay on for multiple tours in Iraq and Afghanistan/go to far away places and maybe never come back again.

Now: An incentive to work on a local base.

Pilot program gives DOD civilians 4-month window to shop at 16 US commissaries

“Defense Department civilian employees at more than a dozen locations in the United States can shop at their base commissary for about four months under a pilot program that began this week.”

“Sixteen stores in seven states, from Alaska to Virginia, opened their doors starting Thursday to DOD appropriated-fund and nonappropriated-fund employees, the Defense Commissary Agency said in a statement the same day.”

“The agency is testing the feasibility of expanding commissary access to DOD civilians at all stateside stores. The change is expected to increase sales and allow the agency to pass on more savings to patrons worldwide, DECA said in the statement.”

The veterans day ass kissing and propaganda is over for another year now.

This includes:

Making claims that US troops are sent to distant lands to defend American rights and freedoms– as the US Armed Forces function as some sort of giant civil rights organization.

Sorry guys, we spent so much on undeclared/unwon wars that we can’t pay for the benefits that were in place last time you re-enlisted.

Plus, we needed to send big cash to Ukraine several times over.

New Uncle Sam also needed big cash in 2024 to fund Student Loan Debt Relief.

Old Uncle Sam, back in the 1980s asked young people to sign up with the US Army to earn college money.

1980s Army College Fund – Dad Shows Support

Please help us now by encouraging your own kids and grandkids to go see a recruiter and sign up because right now we are dealing with an ongoing recruiting crisis.

Recommendations

Insert language into recruiting literature and enlistment documents stating that rules concerning benefits may change at any time & that no definite benefit package will be provided in exchange for 20 years of unrestricted worldwide service. No grandfather clause will apply. Have unit leaders refer to this disclaimer when promoting retention drives, giving re-enlistment speeches, etc.

Some will say that this has already been done, and that you will see it if you read the fine print. I say take it out of fine print and make it read like the warnings on a pack of cigarettes.

Stop spending federal money on meaningless support the troops promotions, campaigns and VIP photo ops that are not connected in any way with public policy.

Decades after the lessons of Vietnam, the Pentagon seems to specialize in undeclared/unwon wars. Understandable why young people & their parents & grandparents would take a dim view on all this.

The Armed Forces recruiting crisis was earned by the politicians, generals, and high ranking civilians who have been running the Pentagon over the past 30 years or so. The crisis is also upon us due to newspeople not asking questions going back to the time the Cold War ended.

Flag officers and high level DOD civilians built careers made of undeclared/unwon wars. Now they must mastermind ways to recruit a new generation.

They are going to tell us how all this works.

Why are these people not showing up at the recruiting office?

Restricting And Suppressing Local Newspaper Comment Sections/Comments On The Web

Years ago, I lived in several different small town areas. Places like Kingston, Port Hadlock and north of Penn Cove.

These areas had small, local newspapers and those papers featured active, online comment sections. Paying for a newspaper subscription was OK with me. There were basic rules for commenting, but it did not seem to matter what name people went by. I never cared.

I used to love the comment sections.

Local papers have stripped away all comments from past articles, and removed the opportunity to post comments to new articles.

Various newspapers in the Puget Sound area have gone with this trend.

Suppressing comments, getting away from asking questions related to public policy and telling us they need more support from subscription and advertising sales.

Got it.

After local newspapers shut down comments, people could still go to Twitter and take a look at what people were posting for comments. Some papers have since shut down posting of their news articles on what is now called X.

Some papers still post to X, but commenting is mostly inactive.

YouTube can be a very good place to view active comment sections, but it may be tricky to find a video that relates to a news story/public policy update you are looking for.

Consumer Demand Or Government Demand?

Banning Sales of Gas-Powered RVs

In the news:

Nov 15, 2024 KIRO Newsradio

New motorhomes in WA could be banned in a matter of weeks

“Manufacturers will be restricted from selling gas- or diesel-powered vehicles over 8,500 pounds unless they first meet the ZEV sales targets. The regulations primarily target large diesel and gas-powered motorhomes, including Class A and large Class C models, aligning with Washington’s goal to phase out new gasoline vehicle sales by 2035.”

As time goes on, the consumer choices we have are becoming more restricted by a combination of government and big business policies, not Saddam Hussein, Osama bin Laden or the next bad guy DOD will be going after in distant lands.

Governments at various levels are now in the habit of setting deadlines for new restrictions, bans and mandates.

Smoking bans, plastic bag bans, gun bans, federal toilet regulations, bottled water bans, mandates on what sort of vehicle you may drive.

All this, while we are told that US military operations in distant lands are somehow linked to American rights and freedoms.

Alternative media provides an update on the banning of gas powered outdoor equipment:

Did hostile forces in distant lands attempt to replace US consumer demand with government demand and end the free enterprise system?

As the years go by, it seems like celebrating independence on July 4th makes less and less sense. Americans do not live in a free and honest society.

Welcome Home Troops

Thanks for keeping Saddam Hussein from showing up in North America to try and run our lives.

Free enterprise is not the state governor setting deadlines for new restrictions, bans and mandates while creating cash giveaways for selected industries.

The US Dept. of Defense was established after WWII, in the late 1940s.

Much concern in recent years about social media and internet misinformation. When elected officials and high level DOD civilians tell us The Troops are sent to distant lands to defend American rights and freedoms, does any mainstream newspaper or TV newsperson ask:

American rights and freedoms are different today because of what military operation conducted by the US Dept. of Defense?

US troops were sent to do time/risk their ass in Iraq and Afghanistan, working to keep a post 911 USA safe & secure?

How could this be, when a giant US Dept. of Homeland Security has been in place for more than two decades and allows cartel product to show up in all 50 states?

Has any newsperson ever questioned this?

“Perhaps you spend the whole day hopping from restaurant freebie to restaurant freebie. Maybe you take a more strategic approach by only targeting one or two high-value discounts.”

Do the American people have an honest relationship with the US Armed Forces?

As the decades of undeclared/unwon wars stack up (The Department of Defense track record goes back to 1949.) the greater the cultural urge to glorify people who do, or did time in uniform.

Each November, school teachers across America host Veterans Day assemblies– and promote the idea to children that The Troops are in distant lands-fighting for American rights and freedoms-as if the US Armed Forces function as some sort of giant civil rights organization.

In Washington State, these assemblies are mandatory.

Biden Marks Memorial Day With Message About Freedom as Trump Lashes Out

“President Joe Biden paid tribute to veterans who died in America’s wars at Arlington National Cemetery on Monday, hailing them as “a link in the chain of honor” who deserve recognition for protecting the nation’s democracy.”

If we had a democracy (we do not) would we be able to vote on decades of undeclared/unwon DOD wars?

“Freedom has never been guaranteed,” Biden said in a nine-minute Memorial Day address, moments after placing a wreath at the Tomb of the Unknowns.

Every generation has to earn it. Fight for it. Defend it in battle between autocracy and democracy,” he said of the nation’s veterans. “Our democracy is more than just a system of government. It’s the very soul of America.”

So, the many wars that have taken place since Armistice Day to not bring us to peace. We are never there, because: “Every generation has to earn it. Fight for it.”

Months from now, will there be any newspeople available to ask:

Mr. President,

Overseas military operations are somehow linked to American rights and freedoms?

While the troops were deployed, federal law was signed prohibiting the sale of tobacco products to adults age 18-20.

President Biden,

Can you help us to understand the militarized version of freedom here?

Gratitude to our fallen heroes,” he said. “Gratitude to the families left behind. And gratitude to the brave souls who continue to uphold the flame of liberty all across our country and around the world.”

Flame of Liberty?

Why do elected officials and high level DOD civilians speak of the US Armed Forces as if they function as some sort of giant civil rights organization?

As time goes on, American freedoms and the consumer choices we have are becoming more restricted by a combination of government and big business policies, not Saddam Hussein, Osama bin Laden or the next bad guy DOD will be going after in distant lands.

If The Troops defend American rights and freedoms, what becomes of those freedoms when the US leaves Syria, Lebanon, Somalia, Vietnam, Afghanistan, etc., without a victory?

Sorry, no newspeople available to ask:

Mr President,

Going back to the 1990 Operation Desert Shield,

How would American freedoms today be any different if US troops were never sent to Iraq?

Uncle Sam is having a hell of a time finding people to sign up for the US Armed Forces. Pretending that decades of undeclared/unwon wars are linked in any way with American freedoms is the kind of dishonesty that will snuff out the energy American families once had for encouraging young people to enlist.

Protect Our Freedoms?

One of the nation’s largest, oldest and most respected veterans organizations tells us: Veterans, not politicians, ‘give us the right to vote,’ observers at Amherst Veterans Day ceremonies told

Veterans give rights?

It turns out The Troops were in no hurry to enable all adults to act on their right to vote.

US Military operations conducted in the 1940s, 50s & 60s didn’t get the job done.

It wasn’t until July of 1971 that 18 year old adults could take delivery on one of the freedoms we hear so much about.

Hey school teachers

If veterans fought for our right to vote- how come women were not allowed full voting rights at the end of WWI?

Why the need for a 1965 Voting Rights Act if overseas military operations somehow secured voting rights?

“If “Men died for your right to vote!”, how did we manage to elect politicians after the Fall of Saigon in 1975?”

American Freedoms Come And Go

Legal marijuana, concealed carry of handguns, semi automatic rifle sales, federal minimum drinking age, sports betting, standard magazine ban, voting rights, bump stock baninterracial marriage, gay marriage, tobacco sales, open container laws, etc.

None of these are linked in any way with The Joint Chiefs of Staff, The Troops, The Dept. of Defense or the outcome of military operations overseas.

The press and most Americans take a polite stance here. Memorial Day is no time to ask questions. Six months out- the questions still will not be asked.

Prediction:

The breaking point will come at the US Armed Forces recruiting office.

There is no WWII generation to encourage new enlistments like there was back in the Cold War era of the 1980s.

Decades of undeclared/unwon DOD wars is now the norm. Look and see if the new military aid package creates any wave of enthusiasm to sign up.

Some may say it is time to bring back a draft.

They tried that during the Vietnam War. They found out they had to stop.

Last time there was a draft, children were raised by the WWII generation, in families where Mom and Dad were married to each other.

Both major US political parties may be forced to downsize their ambitions for various overseas military operations. Things are slow over at the recruiting office.

Mr. President,

Honest and meaningful ideas stand up to questioning and discussion.

Veterans Day Nonsense

Here at Oak Bay Starfish, the Armistice Day blog category began on May 28, 2012. It is not specific to any US presidential administration, overseas military operation, or undeclared/unwon war since The US Dept. of Defense was established after WWII, in the late 1940s.

Page down here to view multiple posts in the Armistice Day category.

US Department of Veterans Affairs:

World War I – known at the time as “The Great War” – officially ended when the Treaty of Versailles was signed on June 28, 1919, in the Palace of Versailles outside the town of Versailles, France. However, fighting ceased seven months earlier when an armistice, or temporary cessation of hostilities, between the Allied nations and Germany went into effect on the eleventh hour of the eleventh day of the eleventh month. For that reason, November 11, 1918, is generally regarded as the end of “the war to end all wars.”

United States Congress officially recognized the end of World War I when it passed a concurrent resolution on June 4, 1926:

“…it is fitting that the recurring anniversary of this date should be commemorated with thanksgiving and prayer and exercises designed to perpetuate peace through good will and mutual understanding between nations; and

Whereas the legislatures of twenty-seven of our States have already declared November 11 to be a legal holiday: Therefore be it Resolved by the Senate (the House of Representatives concurring), that the President of the United States is requested to issue a proclamation calling upon the officials to display the flag of the United States on all Government buildings on November 11 and inviting the people of the United States to observe the day in schools and churches, or other suitable places, with appropriate ceremonies of friendly relations with all other peoples.

“An Act (52 Stat. 351; 5 U. S. Code, Sec. 87a) approved May 13, 1938, made the 11th of November in each year a legal holiday—a day to be dedicated to the cause of world peace and to be thereafter celebrated and known as “Armistice Day.”

Veterans Day

Veterans Day was stolen from Armistice Day in the 1950s. At that time, the US Dept. of Defense had started a decades long tradition of not being able to stay out of or win undeclared wars in distant lands.

It’s all about freedom folks.

Folks, bigger sales and more customers is better. This is why we are not limiting the good deals to those lost on foreign soil.

“Many offers also apply to active duty and reserve military as well as spouses and families (and some for civilians as well), so be sure to take advantage of these deals while kicking off summer and honoring those who made the ultimate sacrifice. Here are the best Memorial Day meals, deals and freebies for veterans, military, military dependents and more for 2023.”

Memorial Day – Made For TV Marketing

Various big companies will remind us that they support veterans and The Troops. Always wonder if any of those companies advocate for less in the way of undeclared/unwon wars. Do traditional veterans organizations advocate for less in the way of undeclared/unwon wars? Would a move in this direction attract more new members? Have any newspeople ever asked about this?

The All Volunteer Force era has been a time to tell the American people that US troops are sent to distant lands to defend American freedoms. This urban legend has run its course. People have seen enough now to know this is no more than a marketing strategy.

Goodbye Armistice Day

Thank You for your sacrifice Troops. Your efforts are playing an important role in marketing our products.

Sampling A Climate of Public Support

Will elected officials look to a draft after American families stop sending a new generation to enlist in the US Armed Forces?

A recruiting crisis was earned by the politicians, generals, & high ranking civilians who have been running the Pentagon over the past 30 years or so.

The crisis is also upon us due to newspeople not asking questions going back to the time the Cold War ended in the early 90s.

The US Dept. of Defense spent the last 30 years squandering prestige and credibility overseas and at home.

If DOD was an NFL team, sports talk radio would feature comments like:

The Dept. of Defense was nowhere to be found on 911. We haven’t won a war since.

Decades after the lessons of Vietnam, the Pentagon seems to specialize in undeclared/unwon wars. Understandable why young people & their parents & grandparents would take a dim view on all this.

Thousands of US families have now had a loved one who did one or more tours in Iraq or Afghanistan.

Will they encourage new enlistments?

America Has a Uniparty System
by Laurence M. Vance
January 24, 2024

“…Democrats claim that they want to see marijuana legalized on the federal level, whenever Democrats have had control of both houses of Congress and the presidency (most recently during Biden’s first two years as president), they have not even attempted to do so.”

If there is one thing that Democrats and Republicans wholeheartedly agree on, it is increased military spending every fiscal year even though the U.S. military budget is already larger than the next 10 highest foreign defense budgets combined. Much of U.S. military spending is wasted on maintaining hundreds of foreign military bases, stationing tens of thousands of American soldiers on foreign soil, and engaging in pointless military operations. The bottom line is: Democrats and Republicans both believe in obscene military budgets for offense instead of defense.”

“U.S. foreign policy has been reckless, belligerent, and meddling for a great many years. Yet, an interventionist foreign policy has been the norm no matter which political party occupied the White House or controlled the House or Senate. Both Democrats and Republicans think that the government should take money out of the pockets of American taxpayers and put it in the hands of foreign governments and organizations in the form of foreign aid. They both feel that America — against the wisdom of John Quincy Adams — should go abroad and seek monsters to destroy. The billions in U.S. taxpayer dollars that went into the sinkhole of Ukraine had bipartisan support. The bottom line is: Democrats and Republicans both believe that the United States should police the world and intervene in other countries as it sees fit.”

Democrats and Republicans both believe that the federal government has the authority to pass gun legislation even though such is not authorized by the Constitution and is prohibited by the Second Amendment.”

My Take

Both major parties send The Troops to distant lands, and tell us it is for our freedoms.

The US should maintain strong and ready military forces.

In some cases, the US Armed Forces provide for our security. That’s as good as it gets.

In terms of American rights and freedoms- The Dept. of Defense has no more say than the Dept. of Agriculture.

Treating 18-20 Year Old Adults As 2nd Class Citizens

Both major parties are OK with treating 18-20 year old adults as second-class citizens.

Both major parties are good with a land of the free holding pattern where alcohol, marijuana, tobacco and firearms restrictions are in place for 18-20 year old adults. Is there any state where recreational marijuana laws remove prohibition for adults at age 18? Are The Joint Chiefs of Staff working to change any of this?

Doesn’t seem to fit with a society that can’t stop bragging about freedom, thanking the troops for freedoms, fighting wars for freedoms, staging military jet flyovers at sporting events for freedom, etc.

Homeland Security Is A Scam

Both major parties fund a $51.6 billion (every 12 months) US Dept. of Homeland Security that has not created any shortage of cartel product anywhere in the US.

Voting is highly emphasized in American culture. Asking questions related to public policy takes a lower priority.

Are newspeople forbidden to ask questions related to Homeland Security funding and performance?

Tune in to any Super Bowl in the post 911 era to see the press promote a big US Dept. of Homeland Security show of force to keep the big game safe. TV newspeople skip asking questions and play the role of federal public affairs staff instead:

Love to see newspeople ask:

Several times over the years, I have heard something similar to:

Mental healthcare in the USA was damaged because President Reagan cut off vital funding.

President Reagan left office in 1989. Both major parties have taken turns in power and had the chance to maintain or change whatever good or bad things President Reagan left in place.

To me, this feels like taking your favorite NFL team today and saying the defense is still screwed up because coach so-and-so set it up that way before he left in 1989.

Trump came on the scene because people grew tired of standard politicians. People also grew tired of the staged/scripted/made for TV debates crafted and agreed upon by the uniparty. People grew tired of being told that undeclared/unwon wars are for your freedoms.

Full Name For Social Media?

Years ago, I lived in several different small town areas. Places like Kingston, Port Hadlock and north of Penn Cove.

These areas had small, local newspapers and those papers featured active, online comment sections. Paying for a newspaper subscription was OK with me. There were basic rules for commenting, but it did not seem to matter what name people went by. I never cared.

I used to love the comment sections.

If a person works at a school district, county office, real estate office, on the ferries, etc. and they have info about what is going on, I want them to be able to comment without any need to use their real name.

Some people would misbehave in the comment section and the newspapers would come up with more restrictive rules or new software to run the comment section. Eliminating comments became a trend.

Local papers have stripped away all comments from past articles, and removed the opportunity to post comments to new articles.

Various newspapers in the Puget Sound area have gone with this trend.

Suppressing comments, getting away from asking questions related to public policy and telling us they need more support from subscription and advertising sales.

Got it.

Biden honors Americans who ‘stood on the front lines of freedom’ in Veterans Day remarks

CNN Nov 11, 2023

Sorry, no newspeople available to ask:

Mr President,

Going back to the 1990 Operation Desert Shield,

How would American freedoms today be any different if US troops were never sent to Iraq?

Real newspeople and some Americans might ask:

Did the advantage of US air power allow the undeclared wars in Iraq or Afghanistan to be prevented, won or shut down?

US jet aircraft have been able to strike targets in what wars won by the US?

Currently serving four-star officers and high level DOD civilians have been associated with what wars won by the US?

Has dressing women to look like men had any positive or negative impact on recruiting?

Uncle Sam is having a hell of a time finding people to sign up for the US Armed Forces. Pretending that decades of undeclared/unwon wars are linked in any way with American freedoms is the kind of dishonesty that will snuff out the energy American families once had for encouraging young people to enlist.

Good luck with your US Armed Forces recruiting crisis.

To me, the most interesting people in politics are the people who are willing to question their chosen political party.

I am interested in living in a free and honest society. I the video below, Tucker Carlson and Jimmy Dore explain why things are not headed that way.

My take:

Decades after the lessons of Vietnam, it feels like the people who run the Pentagon specialize in undeclared/unwon wars.

Understandable why young people and their parents and grandparents would take a dim view on all this.

Four-star officers and high level DOD civilians built careers made of undeclared/unwon wars. Now they must mastermind ways to recruit a new generation.

Many articles on the recruiting crisis blame overweight young people, young people on drugs, a good economy, etc.

I have been blogging on this topic for three years now.

I read every article I can find on the topic. This is the most honest one I have seen:

Jan 16, 2024 The American Mind

Solving the Military’s Recruiting Crisis
By Grant Smith

The widespread loss of trust in America’s fighting force is warranted.”

“To a credulous American public in the wake of 9/11, platitudes were enough. But there have been far too many lies and failures in the top ranks of the military complex since then to paper over this growing crisis.”

After decades of costly and preventable failures, the American people are tired of war and exhausted by the lies glibly espoused by their representatives. Rather than address this unpleasant reality, senior leaders seek refuge in an echo chamber constructed from an unholy trinity of unconstitutional censorship, mass media-driven opinion-shaping network, and the confirmation bias that accompanies their class interest.”

My take:

A recruiting crisis was earned by the politicians, generals, & high ranking civilians who have been running the Pentagon over the past 30 years or so.

The crisis is also upon us due to newspeople not asking questions going back to the time the Cold War ended in the early 90s.

A society where TV newspeople perform like paid actors reading a script:

Recruiting Crisis/Reality Check

Thousands of American families have had a loved one in the regular or reserve US Armed Forces who did one or more tours in Iraq or Afghanistan. National Guard too.

US Army

WWII costume reminds us of a time before decades of undeclared/unwon wars stacked up:

Gen. James E. Rainey, head of Army Futures Command, swears in six new recruits during a special Military Appreciation Day game featuring Minor League Baseball’s Round Rock Express in Round Rock, Texas, on April 30, 2023

US Navy

Vice Adm. Cheeseman says:

We’ve lost kitchen table conversations in the last couple years,” he said, referring to conversations would-be sailors could have with parents or grandparents about service.”

If we can just get the veterans, parents and grandparents of the USA to recommend an enlistment to the young family members in their life, things will be looking up. Trouble is, maybe those family members expect more from a commitment to enlist than decades of undeclared/unwon wars. The press, four-star officers, and elected officials will avoid owning up to this.

The US Dept. of Defense spent the last 30 years squandering prestige and credibility overseas and at home.

If DOD was an NFL team, sports talk radio would feature comments like:

The Dept. of Defense was nowhere to be found on 911. We haven’t won a war since.

Four-star officers, high level DOD civilians, policy think tanks and the press will avoid being honest about how DOD has been used over the past 30 years. They tend to avoid discussing a track record that is not attractive to the parents, grandparents, young people and veterans of America.

Sorry, no time for the press to ask if decades of undeclared/unwon wars fail to stimulate an urge to enlist:

Glorification of military service/propaganda/total nonsense – Pretending the US Armed Forces function as some sort of giant civil rights organization

As the decades of undeclared/unwon wars stack up (The Department of Defense track record goes back to 1949.) the greater the cultural urge to glorify people who do, or did time in uniform.

If there is an honest reason to send people away into decades of undeclared/unwon wars overseas let’s hear all about it.

Congressman Derek Kilmer:

Wars are for freedom and democracy.

Glorification of military service / total nonsense:

Washington State Department of Veterans Affairs:

Our right to vote is protected by the extraordinary men and women of the U.S. Armed Forces.”

WA Secretary of State:

Any newspeople available to ask:

Congressman Kilmer,

If wars are fought for democracy-how come women were not allowed full voting rights at the end of WWI?

Why the need for a 1965 Voting Rights Act if overseas military operations somehow secured voting rights?

Veterans give rights?

It turns out The Troops were in no hurry to enable all adults to act on their right to vote.

US Military operations conducted in the 1940s, 50s & 60s didn’t get the job done.

It wasn’t until July of 1971 that 18 year old adults could take delivery on one of the freedoms we hear so much about.

Local press:

“For the past couple of years, the Whidbey News-Times paid the insurance for the Veterans Day Parade, about $200, because it was a small way of saying thank you to the men and women who sacrificed so that we may have our liberties, including our Freedom of Speech.”

Were US troops sent to Vietnam so that Americans could be free to send letters to the editor?

Is there any case in which the US Armed Forces have been sent to distant lands on a mission to protect freedom of speech?

Is protecting freedom of speech even part of training scenarios?

Private citizens are stepping in and going out with a camera to see and document what is going on.

Instead of waiting for school teachers to teach about individual rights and limited government authority, waiting on the press to ask questions, or courts to handle cases, these guys go out and update us with a quick reality check.

Also not waiting on the overthrow of Saddam Hussein or the take down of the next bad guy in distant lands, as DOD defends the constitution, etc.

Videos recorded at or outside of sites that are funded by the public seem to be best for documenting these issues.

Any TV newsperson could go out and educate the public on their rights/public official’s obligation to provide info, etc. That does not happen.

Memories quickly returned.

Mid-70s

We are on a church youth group (EYC) ski weekend. We are 15-17 years old. My buddy Jon has a Bota Bag on the ski lift. He is squirting wine into his mouth. Alcohol was never as much fun after turning 21.

Making mention of this here is not to defend operating a motor vehicle while under the influence of alcohol, legal or illegal drugs or marijuana.

From a blog I posted back in 2018:

Marijuana was commonly available to all at the public high school I attended in the late 70s. People weren’t waiting for ballot initiatives, Governors, Mayors or the Washington state Attorney General to give their blessing.

Honor Roll students sampled it too. Somehow they went on to lead productive lives. Somehow they avoided worst-case scenarios of abuse.

I am in my early 60s and was recently asked for ID to purchase beer. The store took it a step further and scanned my driver’s license into their ID card reader system. I did not fuss about it because I was a few hours from home and wanted to get on with my day. Not sure what the company is trying to accomplish with this.

My view is that adults are 18 years old and should be treated as such. I am OK with the store checking IDs for someone who looks like they are still in high school. People in their 60s cannot be mistaken for someone under 21 years of age. Over the past year or two, it is common to get ID checked when buying beer here in WA. Again, I am 62 years old.

Pet Peeve:

Beer websites have an honor system these days. You must make up an over 21 birth date in order to study brewery offerings. Underage people who desire to view a brewery web site will be stopped by this bogus honor system?

We drank underage for years with no help whatsoever from the internet.

Back in the old days-each of the 50 states was free to set its own drinking age. It was legal to drink as a teen in some states.

Both major political parties are now OK with treating 18-20 year old adults as second-class citizens. No such thing back in the Vietnam War era. More wars = less freedom

Did 20 years in the Marines, then football half time announcers ruined it for me- constantly reminding us that The Troops are in distant lands fighting to protect American rights and freedoms.

Now in my early 60s, I am frequently asked for ID to show that I am 21 when buying beer at major retail establishments here in WA.

The US should maintain strong and ready military forces.

In some cases, the US Armed Forces provide for our security. That’s as good as it gets.

There has been a big stir over a blocked senior military promotion system. TV newspeople will avoid interviewing people who offer up a voice of dissent. Stalling the administrative steps to promote top level officers might lead to what? Decades of undeclared/unwon wars? A giant Dept. of Defense that was nowhere to be found on 911?

Why would high level promotions be awarded to people who are part of the system that allowed The Troops to live in the barracks described below?

Videos recorded at or outside of sites that are funded by the public seem to be best for documenting these issues.

Two videos below are from a channel I respect. Easy to watch on YouTube for those who desire to do so.

Mr. smiley dentures guy tries to shut down filming in a public place.

4,654 comments are now posted with this video – well worth a look.

Notice how LE personnel never throw him out or tell him not to operate a camera in a public place.

Before LE arrives- watch him tie up several public employees only because they do not want him to operate a camera in a public place:

One of our old/favorite blog topics and another example of newspeople not asking questions:

Trying to make sense of ongoing war on terror/security theater mixed messages.

Love to see more in the way of newspeople asking questions.

Today, the best example of a free and independent American press is what you will find in sports culture.

Think of an NFL game. Coaches and quarterbacks face the press after every game and answer questions, win or lose.

No press secretary. No public relations spokesperson. No freedom of information act requests. No classified documents.

Instant replays, commentary in the broadcast booth, analysis from network studios, sports talk radio, etc. Fans get tons of info all of the time. No chance for conspiracy theories to develop. Missed calls by NFL officials may be discussed for weeks on end. No such thing as: “We can’t comment on an ongoing investigation.” Instant replay is for all to see. Sports writers are OK with being critical of coaches, teams, players, the rule book, the league, referees, team owners, when the season starts and ends, etc. This is what a free and independent press looks like. Go ahead and have sports writers cover public policy, Homeland Security and US Dept. of Defense news and I’m good with that.

In 2023, the press tends to support government agencies, departments and policies rather than question them.

The mainstream press today is prone to suppress voices of dissent and provide news coverage that favors government agencies, departments and their policies.

Here is a nice example:

Ferry drill: Police train how to respond to security threats aboard a ferry in Puget Sound

“Law enforcement officers climbed aboard, guns drawn.”

Just the ticket for a Wild West shootout between the good guys and the bad guys.

If the Oklahoma City bomber rolls onto the ferry-how does the SWAT team help out an hour later?

Blogged about it over the years:

Maybe security personnel are present at some specific terminal each day. I have made dozens of round trip ferry crossings over the past 20 years from various terminals. In many cases, there has been no security screening at either terminal.

Washington State ferry passengers are advised via PA system to not leave backpacks or packages unattended during ferry crossings.

Meanwhile- on the car deck- cars, trucks, vans, commercial vehicles, etc. are left unattended during ferry crossings.

The US should maintain strong and ready military forces.

The US Armed Forces have attracted many good people over the years.

A few random thoughts here:

Americans do not live in a free and honest society. Veterans Day is a day where some pretend that the US Dept. of Defense (established after WWII) and overseas military operations under The Chairman of the Joint Chiefs of Staff (The post of a statutory and permanent Joint Chiefs of Staff chair was created by the 1949 amendments to the National Security Act of 1947.) are linked in some way to American rights and freedoms.

In some cases, the US Armed Forces provide for our security. That’s as good as it gets.

In terms of American rights and freedoms- The Dept. of Defense has no more say than the Dept. of Agriculture.

“Concert For Valor? That sounds like something the North Korean government would organize,” I said as I typed Concertforvalor.com into my MacBook Pro looking for more information.

Whatever Happened To Armistice Day

Veterans Day

One of the very most meaningful holidays for some. Stolen from Armistice Day in the 1950s. At that time, the US Dept. of Defense had started a decades long tradition of not being able to stay out of or win undeclared wars in distant lands.

Today, Armistice Day is free chow day.

Post-Vietnam Guilt

The guilt doesn’t seem to work towards staying out of undeclared/unwon wars. It’s good for head of the line parking spots over at the grocery store.

It’s good for making claims that all who did time in uniform are heroes.

Hero?

Most people do no time in the military- they don’t want to.

There seems to be a quiet guilt about this, so American popular and political culture almost worships those who do.

You don’t have to look too far to find comments that refer to the troops as “heroes.”

Some are.

No one who has done time in an average military unit would be comfortable with everyone present being called a hero. Some units would be the exception, but for most people who have done time over the years, calling everyone a hero would have no connection to reality.

Reality, and an honest understanding of why we send The Troops to far away places isn’t what we’re about though.

Reaching for an honest understanding of US foreign policy makes more sense than “Thanks for your service.”

For those ready to take a break from the social media/emoji version of the internet, there is more here from this 2012 blog:

Hero?

Post-Vietnam guilt is good for replacing the meaning of Armistice Day with free meals, giveaways and discounts.

It’s good for setting up the idea that veterans are people who are most eager to show up for the next big marketing event staged by major retailers and restaurant chains.

It’s good for elementary school Veterans Day assemblies and teaching young children that The Troops are sent to distant lands to defend American rights and freedoms, as if the US Armed Forces function as some sort of giant civil rights organization.

In the 60s & 70s I never attended a Veterans Day assembly at school.

There were none.

Probably enough veterans around to remove most of the mystique, or maybe those veterans thought it was all just an average thing and did not want to be seen as a separate part of American society, or get head of the line parking spots over at the grocery store.

Each November, school teachers across America host Veterans Day assemblies– and promote the idea to children that The Troops are in distant lands-fighting for American rights and freedoms-as if the US Armed Forces function as some sort of giant civil rights organization.

In Washington State, these assemblies are mandatory.

The VA tells teachers that The Troops are Defending Liberty and Freedom.

Hey VA, can you help us to understand the militarized version of freedom here:

In addition to freedoms possibly enjoyed by all adults, those adults who are 18-20 years old are placed in a land of the free holding pattern.

Alcohol, marijuana, tobacco and firearms restrictions are in place for 18-20 year old adults. Is there any state where recreational marijuana laws remove prohibition for adults at age 18?

Doesn’t seem to fit with a society that can’t stop bragging about freedom, thanking the troops for freedoms, fighting wars for freedoms, staging military jet flyovers at sporting events for freedom, etc.

Both major political parties are OK with treating 18-20 year old adults as second-class citizens.

Don’t look for newspeople or school teachers at Veterans Day assemblies to question any of this. Good luck with your US Armed Forces recruiting crisis.

Maybe a few more decades of undeclared/unwon wars and the freedoms will get better. Ask the speakers at your Veterans Day assembly.

In terms of American rights and freedoms- The Dept. of Defense has no more say than the Dept. of Agriculture.

Legal marijuana, concealed carry of handguns, semi automatic rifle sales, federal minimum drinking age, federal toilet regulations, sports betting, federal gas can regulations/free enterprise system,
voting rights, bump stock baninterracial marriage, gay marriage, tobacco sales, open container laws, etc.

Freedoms come and go. None of the above are linked in any way with The Joint Chiefs of Staff, The Troops, The Dept. of Defense or the outcome of military operations overseas.

Love to see a student ask: If The Troops fight for your right to sit, stand, kneel, etc.-why were black people still riding at the back of the bus after the big WWII victory?

Love to see a student ask: If the wars aren’t won-how can they protect our freedom?

Love to see a student ask: Whatever happened to lessons about Armistice Day?

Hey schoolteachers, here’s a lesson idea for you:

1967

Did the Joint Chiefs of Staff send The Troops to safeguard American freedoms?

Was it the Viet Cong that set up laws in 16 US states to prohibit interracial marriage?

Jet Noise Made Them Free?

Made For TV

Various big companies will remind us that they support veterans and The Troops. Always wonder if any of those companies advocate for less in the way of undeclared/unwon wars. Do traditional veterans organizations advocate for less in the way of undeclared/unwon wars? Would a move in this direction attract more new members? Have any newspeople ever asked about this?

The All Volunteer Force era has been a time to tell the American people that US troops are sent to distant lands to defend American freedoms. This urban legend has run its course. People have seen enough now to know this is no more than a marketing strategy. Uniparty newspeople play along by not asking questions:

Whatever happened to the formal congressional declaration of war?

Be sure to ask the speakers and teachers at your elementary school Veterans Day assembly.

The formal congressional declaration of war would be the time to hear from elected leaders and top generals Re: lessons learned on all the issues that have doomed the Department of Defense track record for winning wars since DOD was established in 1949.

Don’t Just Thank Me for My Service. Ask Me About It

“And although you, John Doe civilian, did not personally authorize our military to enter Iraq and Afghanistan, as the citizen of a democracy, you share the burden of our wars.”

If it is a democracy, when do we vote on undeclared/unwon wars?

The US Dept. of Defense spent the last 30 years squandering prestige and credibility overseas and at home.

Decades after the lessons of Vietnam, it feels like the politicians, four-star officers and high level DOD civilians who run the Pentagon specialize in undeclared/unwon wars. The DOD brand has been wrecked.

Group Identities are Tricky/What others are saying:

I am a Marine Corps veteran, served four years active duty in a combat role and never saw any combat. In my eyes, that doesn’t make me a veteran.”

Enjoyed this post.

What gets me is Veterans who get pissed when they DON’T get praised for being Vets or if a store doesn’t have a discount. I was behind a guy arguing with a cashier because company X did not offer a military discount. He Was going off on how he was deployed and gets no thanks for it. I asked him what branch he was and where he deployed to. Army National Guard, Deployed to Fairfax, VA to help with elections. What a twat.”

“I think the general problem many Vets have today with Veterans Day is that “Thanking the Troops” has become a marketing scheme and the sacrifices that you describe have been manipulated to sell used cars and mattresses. It just doesn’t feel like a sacred holiday. You’re doing it right, but as a nation, we are not.”

Should We Celebrate Veterans?
By Laurence M. Vance
November 9, 2023

“Most Americans would say we should celebrate veterans for

keeping us safe
protecting America
defending our freedoms
fighting over there so we don’t have to fight over here
protecting and defending the Constitution
But since veterans do none of these things, I ask again: Why should we celebrate veterans?”

Respect for The National Guard

The people of Minnesota need more applicants to maintain a place to live and a regular job in their hometown area when they are not doing time in foreign lands helping DOD with undeclared/unwon wars and missions completely unrelated to their home state.

A few decades back, people might think of the National Guard as one weekend a month and two weeks in the summer plus a way to support your home state by being ready to get called out for floods, fires, natural disasters, civil unrest, etc. Maybe a way to help the next state over if they needed it.

Thousands of men and women who signed up for the National Guard in the past 25 years did tours in places like Syria, Africa, Iraq, Afghanistan, and Kosovo.

Any members of the press available to show up and ask why the people of Home State, USA needed services in distant lands, absent any military emergency, national emergency, draft, or declaration of war?

Recruiting crisis for Uncle Sam? Elected officials, top Pentagon Generals and the press earned it.

For those who are ready to take a break from the social media/emoji version of the internet:

Small children are taught that The Troops are sent to distant lands to defend American freedoms at 0:40

They forgot The National Guard:

More propaganda for kids:

They forgot The National Guard again. At 1:03 kids are told that this is all about defending our freedoms.

It’s all happy and good. No need to consider the true meaning of Armistice Day or call for less in the way of undeclared/unwon wars.

School children are taught about a free enterprise system. They grow up to find out that the federal government will tell them what kind of shower head they must install in the bathroom, and what type of gas can they must buy for their generator.

Wait until they find out (at age 18) that adults in the USA are divided into groups of first and second class citizens. Uncle Sam says you are not old enough to buy a six pack of beer. Gee whiz- it wasn’t like that when the WWII generation came home from the war.

Armistice Day is Now Free Chow Day

Here’s where veterans can get free meals on Veterans Day in Milwaukee

“…be prepared to show a military ID.” Trivia update: Many guys and gals who did time in the US Armed Forces, left and moved on, have no military ID of any kind.

Meet a veteran who isn’t shy about going out & grabbing a couple free meals-it’s a proud thing:

Get on down to the showroom to Salute The Troops!

KOMO News video: Nine military vets were treated to a supermarket shopping spree in Lakewood.

Is there a perception that people who did time in uniform are needy or disadvantaged? This news report gives us no hint as to how these veterans were selected. Was this a publicity stunt for the local NFL team? Newspeople play along by not asking questions.

Another story with zero information or reporting on how these families were selected:

Retail marketing strategy update: Ass Kissing & Propaganda

Veteran hassled over veteran parking spot at the grocery store.

Veteran reports incident to store manager.

Veteran returns to store to get thanks for his service, a cake and $100 in gift cards:

“On behalf of Harris Teeter I know we’re happy to have you as a customer and protecting the country for us,” Roy Bunn, store manager, told Boyle on Thursday evening. “For the incident, we deeply apologize for that.”

“This person who wrote this note on my car was given that right to be able to do that because of what I did.”

People in uniform give rights? This idea calls for more discussion.

Know that some who did time in uniform do not want head of the line privileges of any kind. They do not want discounts/freebies, and would refuse to appear in a TV news broadcast to have their ass kissed by some giant grocery store chain because of their You did time in uniform, so here’s your special parking spot scenario. Some veterans wouldn’t even use the parking spot to begin with. They might believe little old ladies should get the better parking.

Many veterans claim to have served to protect American rights & freedoms.

How does this work?

Do the US Armed Forces function as some sort of giant civil rights organization?

Glorification of military service / total nonsense:

WA Secretary of State:

Our right to vote has always been protected by the brave men and women who serve in our Armed Forces.”

If a right to vote has always been protected by the brave men and women who serve in our Armed Forces, how come women were not allowed full voting rights at the end of WWI?

Why the need for a 1965 Voting Rights Act if overseas military operations somehow secured voting rights?

If a right to vote is protected by the US Armed Forces, what becomes of that right when the US leaves Syria, Lebanon, Somalia, Vietnam, Afghanistan, etc., without a victory?

Mayor Day,

Recruiting Crisis/Reality Check

Thousands of American families have had a loved one in the regular or reserve US Armed Forces who did one or more tours in Iraq or Afghanistan. National Guard too.

If we can just get the veterans, parents and grandparents of the USA to recommend an enlistment to the young family members in their life, things will be looking up.

Again- The US Dept. of Defense spent the last 30 years squandering prestige and credibility overseas and at home.

Some Americans may be asking:

Did the advantage of US air power allow the undeclared wars in Iraq or Afghanistan to be prevented, won or shut down?

US jet aircraft have been able to strike targets in what wars won by the US?

Currently serving four-star officers and high level DOD civilians have been associated with what wars won by the US?

Has dressing women to look like men had any positive or negative impact on recruiting?

If DOD was an NFL team, sports talk radio would feature comments like:

The Dept. of Defense was nowhere to be found on 911. We haven’t won a war since.

Again- Decades after the lessons of Vietnam, it feels like the politicians, four-star officers and high level DOD civilians who run the Pentagon specialize in undeclared/unwon wars. The DOD brand has been wrecked.

Any college or pro football coach would have been fired a dozen times over for what DOD has done with the US Armed Forces during the fake GWOT era.

October 3, 2023 Alaska National Guard Public Affairs

Alaska National Guardsmen Prepare for Middle East Deployment

Lt. Col. Luke Bushatz, 1-297th battalion commander, spoke to the Guard members about safeguarding the fundamental freedoms we cherish.”

You guard liberty because you choose to be a part of something that is bigger than the individual,” said Bushatz. “You willingly choose to submit yourselves to one another, holding yourself accountable for the preservation of rights of men given by God.”

The people of Alaska needed services in Kosovo in 2020

“The deployment ceremony was not the first for many of the Guardsmen in the formation. In 2020, more than 150 Guardsmen from the 1-297th returned from a year-long deployment to Kosovo.”

If I was with the press, I would ask Lt. Col. Bushatz if the Kosovo deployment was also somehow related to American rights and freedoms. I’d ask if it was related to defending the US Constitution.

I would ask Lt. Col. Bushatz if the freedom talk is just for federal holidays and overseas military operations.

Bosses over at the media outlet probably would not want these sorts of questions to be presented to military authorities.

Newspeople Avoid Asking Questions

Will there ever come a time when newspeople ask if there is any military emergency, national emergency, draft, or declaration of war, linked to the movement of National Guard troops to an overseas location?

Lt. Col. Bushatz,

Does the US Armed Forces function like some sort of giant civil rights organization?

Both major political parties are now OK with treating 18-20 year old adults as second-class citizens. Can you explain the militarized version of freedom here?

Alcohol, marijuana, tobacco and firearms restrictions are in place for 18-20 year old adults. Is there any state where recreational marijuana laws remove prohibition for adults at age 18?

Doesn’t seem to fit with a society that can’t stop bragging about freedom, thanking the troops for freedoms, fighting wars for freedoms, staging military jet flyovers at sporting events for freedom, etc.

Certainly, Americans do not live in a free and honest society.

School Teachers Avoid Asking Questions

Hey school teachers, are the Joint Chiefs of Staff sending The Troops to fix any of this? Will National Guard deployments from Hometown, USA to distant lands (already been done for decades now) enhance American rights and freedoms?

Lt. Col. Bushatz,

Honest and meaningful ideas stand up to questioning and discussion.

The US Armed forces have been operating in the Middle East for decades now. These military operations are somehow linked to American rights and freedoms? Please explain.

Tough Assignment

Trying to recruit a younger generation for US military service after the US Dept of Defense already spent the last 30 years squandering prestige and credibility overseas and at home.

Decades after the lessons of Vietnam, it feels like the people who run the Pentagon specialize in undeclared/unwon wars. The DOD brand has been wrecked.

Understandable why young people and their parents and grandparents would take a dim view on all this.

Sending the National Guard from Alaska to the Middle East in October of 2023, and the message to The Troops and their families is that this is about freedom and liberty?

Yes, 18-20 year old adults, we need you to maintain a place to live and a regular job in your Alaska hometown area when you are not doing time in foreign lands helping DOD with undeclared/unwon wars and missions completely unrelated to your home state. Sign up to ship out and listen to your CO tell you its about freedom and liberty decades after the USA has already been conducting military operations in the area that are clearly not linked in any way with American rights and freedoms. When you get home, it will not be legal for you to buy a six pack of beer, a pack of cigarettes, or take your 20 year old girlfriend (a responsible adult) over to the tavern to order up a couple beers to celebrate freedom. There once was a time when each of the 50 states could set its own minimum drinking age. This was before Desert Storm, 9/11/2001 and various post 911 military operations for freedom. Maybe we should ask the Joint Chiefs of Staff if more deployments to distant lands will change any of this.

Freedom?

School children are taught about a free enterprise system. They grow up to find out that the federal government will tell them what kind of shower head they must install in the bathroom, and what type of gas can they must buy for their lawn mower.

Did hostile forces in distant lands attempt to replace US consumer demand with government demand and end the free enterprise system?

America Deserves A Military Recruiting Crisis

Cultural Honesty

Possibly of interest:

Below, are some random thoughts and questions newspeople will not ask. Our questions appear in bold type.

Was It A Fake War On Terror?

How Do The Troops Defend The Constitution?

Not asking about the oath of enlistment. Asking about what happens after the oath has been taken.

Love to see newspeople interview elected officials and let us know how sending US Troops to Syria, Lebanon, Somalia, Vietnam, Afghanistan, Iraq, Bosnia, etc., is somehow defending the constitution.

Look for newspeople and school teachers to ask zero questions in these areas.

Something from the last century

Yesterday, somebody posted:

Where were you? along with a photo of a peaceful/standing twin towers.

My response:

With my GF in Kingston. Had already done some time in uniform. Took me several years to become skeptical and see that the federal government and the press had lost credibility.

Today:

My feeling is that a man on the moon in 1969 was a proud American moment. That was maybe the best of America in my lifetime.

Growing Up In The Cold War Era

Things were up and running in the 80s and 90s

Later in the day:

“What I remember most about 9/11 is the way America was unified the day after. During uncontrollable times we controlled our response. Race, Gender and Political Party were equally irrelevant.”

“We focused on loving each other, how did we get so segregated? We never would have made it this far if we embraced division on September the 12th. We are where we are because we got here TOGETHER let’s embrace love yet again.”

“God Bless The USA.”

My response:

Good Stuff

Let’s keep that and add a free and independent press that will ask questions/rock the boat, no matter who is in office.

The mainstream press provides news coverage that favors government agencies, departments and policies.

Information Suppression – The Press is Weak

Never Forget-

The US Armed Forces were irrelevant in defending American rights and freedoms, our physical security, & The Constitution on 911.

Ditto for all other federal agencies and departments.

Anybody fired over this?

A special marketing tribute to a catastrophic military failure:

For the US federal government, the event is remembered as a day about victims, heroes and patriotism.

Honor and commemorate the sacrifices made that day by remembering the heroes, armed forces, first responders, and countless others’ acts of service to defend our nation’s freedom. On 9/11 Day of Service, Americans of all ages and backgrounds are again invited to join and lead community service projects to honor the lives and service of those we lost on September 11.”

We got our ass kicked on 911.The federal government has been squandering credibility ever since. If the US Armed Forces were keeping us safe– first responders would have had a routine day at work on 911. The giant government and “Dept of Defense” were nowhere to be found on 911. For federal government convenience, take the day, follow along, pledge your allegiance and behave as that government sees fit. Do as you are told. Fly your flag as you are told. Think and behave as that government tells you. Divert your attention away from federal government failure and stay busy with federal suggestions for the day.

Nothing wrong with volunteer work. The manipulative federal government can stay out of it.

Here at Oak Bay Starfish, we will observe the day by avoiding network TV. At the bottom of this page, we will offer up some readings featuring voices of dissent and alternative media.

Aftermath

Let’s say the federal government did everything right before and on the day of Sept. 11th, 2001. The uniparty press avoids questions on how things have come together since.

Big Homeland Security spending

The US Dept of Homeland Security was established on November 25, 2002. Plenty of time for lessons learned, and more cartel drugs entering Hometown, USA than ever before?

Lessons Learned?

Anytime there is a plane crash, a loss at sea, or an industrial accident, a thorough investigation takes place. Lessons learned are used to prevent future accidents. A major aircraft manufacturer grounds certain airplanes after mishaps. Time is required to investigate and find out what went wrong.

Any similar effort after a big cartel drug bust inside the US?

The folks who show up and investigate the plane crash don’t spend time congratulating each other. Their work is designed to try and prevent similar future incidents, not promote themselves.

Preventing drugs from entering local communities would kill the chance for various agencies to get publicity for the occasional big drug bust happening in those communities.

Precinct 4 SET detectives conducted the operation with the assistance of other KCSO detectives from contract partners of Shoreline, SeaTac, Maple Valley, Metro, and TAC-30.”

Wonder what was happening at border crossing/port of entry inspections during the 12 months Operation P-22 (to take down just one branch of the cartel activity) took place. Do the good guys who made the local bust notify the good guys at the border about the weak links in their process?

Were federal authorities at the border notified of this ongoing investigation?

Did the cartel traffickers get fast track screening at the border so as not to disrupt this ongoing investigation?

If the drug traffickers were given a pass at the border- would that have tipped them off as to the investigation- or would that have been seen as standard protocol?

Imagine that LE authorities observe a shoplifter or bank robber in action. Instead of going in to make an arrest they back off and conduct an investigation that goes on for months. What if they applied the same tactic Re: crimes involving arson, terrorism, child abuse, DUI, etc.

This time next year- will there be any shortage of cartel product in the Puget Sound area? Has any city, county or state jurisdiction been able to cleanup their drug problem using these methods?

Snohomish 2015

Local law enforcement agencies may benefit when the US Dept. of Homeland Security fails to keep heroin out of the US:

Seattle media: Heroin busts could finance police construction in Snohomish

Newspeople are good about posting a drug bust press release. Newspeople remain silent when it comes to asking questions about Homeland Security funding and performance.

Big DOD spending on undeclared/unwon wars for our freedoms.

The All Volunteer Force era has been a time to tell the American people that US troops are sent to distant lands to defend American freedoms. This urban legend has run its course. People have seen enough now to know this is no more than a marketing strategy. Uniparty newspeople play along by not asking questions:

Freedom?

School children are taught about a free enterprise system. They grow up to find out that the federal government will tell them what kind of shower head they must install in the bathroom, and what type of gas can they must buy for their lawn mower.

The US should maintain strong and ready military forces.

In some cases, the US Armed Forces provide for our security. That’s as good as it gets.

In terms of American rights and freedoms- The Dept. of Defense has no more say than the Dept. of Agriculture.

Maybe a few more decades of undeclared/unwon wars and the freedoms will get better.

The uniparty promotes the idea that The Troops are sent to distant lands to defend American rights and freedoms. The press plays along by not asking questions.

Why do we speak of the US Armed Forces as if they function as some sort of giant civil rights organization?

Part of the reaction was to send The Troops into undeclared wars.

Any college or pro football coach would have been fired a dozen times over for what DOD has done with the US Armed Forces during the fake GWOT era.

Fake GWOT?

The US Dept. of Homeland Security was invented after the catastrophic military failure of 911. The idea was to keep bad people from coming to the US to do bad things/attempt another 911, etc.

GWOT questions we’d love to see newspeople ask:

REAL ID

If REAL ID is critical to the safety of America, have travelers out at the airport been less safe since 911?

The new REAL ID requirement for domestic air travel has now been extended out more than 20 years past 911 – May 7, 2025

If sending US troops to Afghanistan and creating a $51.6 billion (every 12 months) US Dept. of Homeland Security was meant to keep bad people from coming here to do bad things, why are drug cartels able to move product into all 50 states?

If the CIA (est 1947) serves as an advantage to the US, why does the Department of Defense have such a poor record of winning undeclared wars going back to 1949, the year DOD was established?

Show up early to wait in line and squeeze the toothpaste out of the tube at the airport?

What keeps the terrorists of the GWOT from creating a disruption at the back end of the screening line?

Has anyone ever seen any member of the press ask questions on this?

Fred Reed December 4, 2015

Security Theater: Customary Federal Pointlessness

“…the intelligence agencies have proved useless. NSA did not prevent the first attack on the Twin Towers in 1993, nor the successful one.”

“What goes on at airports is not security. It is Security Theater. When the government’s own agents try to smuggle “weapons” aboard airliners to test the system, they succeed ninety-five percent of the time.”

“Further, a terrorist doesn’t need to get aboard an airliner to blow up spectacularly. At many airports, hundreds of people line up at ticket counters during peak hours. A carry-on bag of explosive would easily create enough slaughter to shut down air travel and to make international headlines for weeks.”

Warnings at airports that unattended vehicles will be ticketed, towed, and perhaps destroyed are also Security Theater. By the time the vehicle was noticed, and somebody sent to check it out, an easy five minutes would have passed and the driver would be somewhere else. Boom.”

REAL ID And The Fake War on Terror

Recruiting crisis for Uncle Sam? Elected officials and top Pentagon Generals earned it.

The US should maintain strong and ready military forces. The Cold War ended in the early 90s. The Pentagon was happy with the All Volunteer Force.

Look what they did with it.

Decades after the lessons of Vietnam, it feels like the people who run the Pentagon specialize in undeclared/unwon wars.

Understandable why young people and their parents and grandparents would take a dim view on all this.

Will an older generation encourage a younger generation to do time in the US Armed Forces in the years ahead?

How does Uncle Sam plan to attract young people to sign up in the years ahead?

We were told we needed to send troops to Vietnam.

Syria, Lebanon, Somalia, Iraq, Afghanistan, etc.

Some may have become skeptical along the way.

Secretary Wormuth,

Will sending the National Guard, active, reserve and IRR forces to support NATO/Ukraine stimulate new enlistments over at the recruiting office?

National Guard

The people of Minnesota need more applicants to maintain a place to live and a regular job in their hometown area when they are not doing time in foreign lands helping DOD with undeclared/unwon wars and missions completely unrelated to their home state.

A few decades back, people might think of the National Guard as one weekend a month and two weeks in the summer plus a way to support your home state by being ready to get called out for floods, fires, natural disasters, civil unrest, etc. Maybe a way to help the next state over if they needed it.

Any members of the press available to show up and ask why the people of Home State, USA needed services in distant lands, absent any military emergency, national emergency, draft, or declaration of war?

Recruiting crisis for Uncle Sam? Elected officials, top Pentagon Generals and the press earned it.

Thousands of men and women who signed up for the National Guard in the past 25 years did tours in places like Syria, Africa, Iraq, Afghanistan, and Kosovo.

These families have stories to tell and they’re not all positive. Will their stories support a draft?

Return to a Military Draft?

Five Lessons from 9/11

I much prefer Thomas Jefferson’s foreign policy to Shaprio’s: “Peace, commerce, and honest friendship with all nations—entangling alliances with none.”

“Even with all of its resources and military might, the U.S. government failed miserably to protect Americans on 9/11.”

“Lesson number 1: Never trust the government. Ever. And especially when it has anything to do with terrorism, foreign policy, war, or the military. The government is a giant lie-making machine. Never trust what the government says about the events leading up to 9/11, the causes of the 9/11 attacks, or what actually happened on 9/11.”

“Lesson number 4: Government can’t keep us safe. The government couldn’t even protect its Pentagon.”

Be sure to help out Uncle Sam by getting your young family member to go and enlist now:

And don’t think any of the wrong thoughts, or come up with any questions to ask, like:

Currently serving four-star officers and high level DOD civilians have been associated with what wars won by the US?

National Security Crisis?

We need more young people to sign up for more decades of undeclared/unwon wars to prevent a national security crisis. The Department of Defense track record with undeclared wars goes back to 1949.

It’s Back: Two Congressmen Want Americans to Thank Troops for Their Freedom

Two congressmen are once again urging Americans to express support for troops and veterans by saying “thank you for our freedom” instead of “thank you for your service.”

One active-duty senior noncommissioned officer, speaking on the condition of anonymity because they are not allowed to talk to the press, simply said the bill is “cringeworthy.”

Why do we speak of the US Armed Forces as if they function as some sort of giant civil rights organization?

Freedom Comes And Goes – Joint Chiefs of Staff Play No Part

American freedoms come and go. None of the above are linked in any way with The Joint Chiefs of Staff, The Troops, The Dept. of Defense, the outcome of military operations overseas, or The Sound of Freedom.
