In the news: Huge fee hike for park proposed; National Park Service seeks rise to $70 for one vehicle, one week

Several comments here, saying that parks need to be better about stopping people as they enter these federal lands to verify that the proper day use permits are in hand. Heading out for your picnic might feel something like trying to enter a military base. Washington State Parks are already on to this. They are now in the habit of stopping vehicles at guilty until proven innocent checkpoints to verify that you have purchased what started out to be a parking pass several years ago. Fort Ebey State Park is good for this.

But-what about discrimination?

The federal government is A-OK with dividing people up into groups- then assigning a separate value to each group.

Parking pass for federal lands you paid for the same as the wars in Iraq & Afghanistan:

America the Beautiful Passes

Regular people- $80 annual pass

Military- free

Annual 4th Grade Pass- free

Seniors- $20 Annual Senior Pass

Don’t forget- If you are not headed towards a National Park- but want to make a daytime visit to BLM, U.S. Forest Service, National Park Service, Fish and Wildlife Service, Bureau of Reclamation, or U.S. Army Corps of Engineers lands– you may be asked to pay a fee.

How about an opt in/out pass to pay for decades (The Department of Defense track record goes back to 1949) of undeclared/unwon wars in distant lands?

If people don’t want to show proper support by paying a special fee- above and beyond April 15th federal taxes- then the wars would have to be shut down.

Halloween still seven weeks out.

Local authorities dictate a 1.5 hour window for trick-or-treat time 2017:

Trick-or-treat in city limits Oct. 31

Your family will start at 6:00 and be done for the year at 7:30 p.m.

Who gets to make decisions on how your family will behave? Not parents? Not you & the others who live in the cul-de-sac? Not the people who planned the block party last summer? Not the people who have created and enjoyed Halloween traditions in the neighborhood?

Same country that made a big deal of celebrating freedom & independence early in July.

In the news:

Kids go back-to-school with law enforcement at their side

Law enforcement authorities instead of parents assist kids with back to public school shopping where free breakfast and lunch awaits.

All set to raise up another generation of independent thinkers.

Parental roles update:

Edwards-Knox Wants All Students To Enjoy Free Meals

“…free breakfast and lunch for everyone.”

Looks like the federal free and reduced breakfast and lunch program may not have been getting the job done.

Now taxpayers will fund the federal program along with the Edwards-Knox school district program.

The school district moves to fade incentives for parents to pack a lunch. Get your free school breakfast and lunch- otherwise you may become part of some sort of worst case scenario that goes like this: “When a student is hungry, they can’t learn,” said Ronald Burke, district superintendent.

People in need should be able to get assistance.

Tax money- which some people intend to be used to help others via public assistance programs– also goes for bombing Iraq and Afghanistan. US bombing of Iraq goes back to 1991.

Helping others by donating to churches or private charities, food banks, etc. can avoid these conflicts.

Donors are free to opt out if a charity misbehaves.

People could keep more of their own money to donate to causes of their choosing if the federal government was not taking it to pay for failed wars that never end. The Department of Defense track record goes back to 1949.

In the news:

San Diego teacher detained after refusing to answer Border Patrol questions at checkpoint

“Are we crossing a border?” Parmely responded.

“No. Are you United States citizens?” he repeated.

Huge number of comments here.

People seem astonished that some would decline to answer questions at checkpoints set up away from border crossings and ports of entry.

Many examples can be found here and here.

In 2008, the US Border Patrol came to Jefferson County, WA and set up suspicionless checkpoints and bus boardings- away from border crossings and ports of entry.

At a local Border Patrol forum a lady asked:

“What is the penalty for not identifying oneself to federal agents at an internal, suspicionless checkpoint?”

US Border Patrol said they would call in the Sheriff when a person refused to identify themselves.

Sheriff says they will not respond to a non-emergency situation involving a person peaceably refusing to interact with federal agents.

Question about providing ID is at 0:35

State and local law enforcement agencies do not conduct suspicionless checkpoints in Washington State.

2017 update:

US Border Patrol, Port Angeles, WA-

A new, $11.9 million, 50 agent facility, secret arrest statistics, denied FOIA requests, heroin in the community & a Border Patrol whistleblower investigation Re: fraudulent overtime that resulted in further suppression of information- keep the focus on asking questions in these areas.

No cross-border USBP arrest has happened here in more than 7 years.

Why do people believe The Troops are defending American rights and freedoms– as if the US Armed Forces function as some sort of giant civil rights organization?

It took a constitutional amendment to prohibit the sale of a glass of wine- why no constitutional amendment to authorize a federal war on drugs, drug czar, prohibition of marijuana, etc.

Are federal public assistance programs working?

Summer feeding programs have been set up to provide meals when school is out.

Summer Meal Program Information

Summer feeding program continues to grow in Peoria

“We’ve gone from 2,000 to 3,000 meals all summer five years ago to 65,000 meals this summer,” he said. The program ends Aug. 4.

Baltimore Co. schools serving free meals this summer:

“From now until July 28, 44 Baltimore County schools will be serving free breakfast and lunch to kids Monday through Friday.”

Coupeville School District

“The district participates in the federal free and reduced-price lunch program, which allows families that qualify to obtain either no-cost or reduced-price meals for their child(ren).”

Love to see newspeople ask: If a family qualifies for free and reduced price school breakfast and lunch- wouldn’t they also qualify for year-round public assistance to provide meals at home? Would this reduce the need for summer feeding programs?

USDA Federal School Lunch Program- Virgin Islands:

“…widespread waste, potential for fraud, negligence and overall a program that has not come close to being adequately administered…”
