Looking back towards the Cold War Era there were several memorable people who were elected to office as members of the Democratic Party.
John F. Kennedy, WWII veteran and President.
JFK speaks about the role of the press in a free society:
John Glenn, Marine pilot in WWII and Korea. First American to orbit the Earth. Democratic United States Senator from Ohio.
Jimmy Carter, Navy veteran, Georgia State Senator from 1963 to 1967, the 76th governor of Georgia and President. Active in church and volunteer work.
Jim Webb, Marine Vietnam veteran.
Awarded the Navy Cross for heroism, also awarded the Silver Star, two Bronze Stars, and two Purple Hearts.
United States Senator from Virginia, Secretary of the Navy.
Presidenttial candidate:
“On October 20, 2015, after failing to gain substantial support for his campaign ahead of the primaries, Webb announced that he would be dropping out of the Democratic presidential race in favor of a possible independent presidential run citing his “frustration with party leadership“. On February 11, 2016, he ruled out making an independent presidential bid.”
2020
Today there is a perception that democrats may be OK with rioting. They hate the police, or maybe they are just OK with a political party where some do. They want to get rid of cars powered by internal combustion engines. They predict worst-case scenarios related to climate change. They believe you should turn in your guns. A bbq grill, like a Weber probably isn’t a good idea because it will add to a carbon footprint. Ditto for campfires.
The race issue.
I feel like racial tension is higher today than at anytime in my life.
I did some time in the Marines. One of the best parts of it was living and working with people from all 50 states, some foreign countries and every color under the sun.
Interracial marriage was quite common. People were family oriented and loving their kids.
Head over to the daycare facility at any military base. You will see kids of all colors playing together without any regard for what color they are, or what color their Mom or Dad is.
This good news about loving families will not show up on the TV.
Those Moms and Dads will not be interviewed for a TV news story related to any of this.
Random thoughts:
Is President Obama speaking out now on race issues?
America now seems very much about identity politics. Do black mayors and chiefs of police have a better record for controlling violence and police abuse in their cities?
Do women who are mayors and chiefs of police have a better record?
Has there ever been any news reporting on this?
Voting
Voting is highly emphasized in American culture. Asking questions related to public policy takes a lower priority.
Newspeople need to step up their game.

I’m not going to argue with you.
Both major parties are good with:
Undeclared/unwon wars that never end, wasteful Homeland Security spending, the drug war, federal prohibition of marijuana, treating 18-20 year old adults as 2nd class citizens, an ongoing glorification of military service, and newspeople who take a pass on asking questions on these issues.
