Coupeville/Penn Cove is on the eastern shore of Whidbey Island-no ferry link to Port Townsend exists there.

Oyhut State Park?

Here is what seems to be a very confused article about a state park that does not exist?

What is the street address for Oyhut State Park?

Oyhut State Park is a gorgeous beach on Washington’s west coast at the south end of Ocean Shores Peninsula.”

“The beach is popular with birders and as a place to rent and ride horses.”

“What to Expect at Oyhut State Park

“Oyhut State Park is not one of the busier state parks in Washington. It’s located on the north shore of North Bay, near Ocean Shores, and near where Highway 109 meets Highway 115.”

Was “… south end of Ocean Shores Peninsula.”

Now “…north shore of North Bay…”

Now “…near where Highway 109 meets Highway 115.”

How Long Would It Take To Walk

From:

“…north shore of North Bay…”

To:

“… south end of Ocean Shores Peninsula.”

Do they mean Ocean City State Park?

Do they mean Oyhut Ocean Beach Access? Here, it is referred to as Oyhut State Park Ocean Beach Access. This is a parking area with a restroom. It is near a place to rent and ride horses, but not at the south end of Ocean Shores Peninsula.”

There is an Oyhut Wildlife Recreation Area, but this is not a state park and is not a place to rent horses.

Here is an article that refers to Damon Point State Park. I believe this state park was closed down years ago.

No longer here?

My understanding is that there is no longer any state park at Damon Point.

Looks like WA DNR, at some time in the past, took over what once was Damon Point State Park.

From Washington State Department of Natural Resources (DNR)

Damon Point was once Protection Island, a sandy shoal at the mouth of Grays Harbor, separated from the town of Ocean Shores by a channel of water.”

“During this period, Damon Point was a state park, with a paved road extending 2 miles out to the end of the spit.”

“Damon Point was the resting place of the SS Catala, originally recommissioned as a floating hotel in Seattle for the 1962 World’s Fair. It was moved to Ocean Shores and eventually ran aground at Damon Point, greatly contributing to accretion of sediments. The wreckage was finally removed in 2007.”

Ran aground? Was Catala underway prior to beaching?

How Was SS Catala Moored at Ocean Shores?

Conclusion

Some of this can just honestly be confusing. Some seems to be sloppy sharing of information, and some seems to be a deliberate intent to create a scene that does not exist.

People familiar with Ocean Shores, WA would balk at the idea that the scene above is local to Ocean Shores.

Oak Harbor Chamber of Commerce

“Oak Harbor is the largest city on Whidbey Island, located on the North end of the island. Whidbey Island is home to Windjammer Park and is known for its gorgeous ocean views.”

The body of water adjacent to the town is called: Oak Harbor.

How long would it take to walk or ride a bike to the nearest Ocean? What route would be best to take?

Has anyone ever posted an ocean photo that was taken at Oak Harbor?
