Both major parties are OK with controlling people while telling us that wars are for freedom.
Freedom

Hi Alex,
You might be interested in this. Along that âunending unwon wars are for freedomâ narrative, Iâve been working on this blog post for a few months since I saw this book reviewed in the local paper. Maybe we do a better job of honoring the troops by rethinking how we train them, where we send them, and why we send them there.
Feel free to share. Thanks. Bill

Thanks for this Bill.
“We sent Orrin to a war zone…”
A few months back, the USO was telling us that “…82% of military families feel that the public doesn’t understand their sacrifices.”
I blogged about it and made this comment:
People might come around if they had a say in undeclared/unwon wars that never end. When do we get to vote on all this?

I don’t feel like the average voter gets any say about undeclared/unwon wars that never end.
Here in a few weeks, local school teachers will host Veterans Day (not Armistice Day) assemblies, where young students will be told that The Troops, and veterans before them were sent to distant lands to defend American rights and freedoms.
This idea does not stand up to questioning and mostly will not be questioned by traditional veterans groups, public school teachers, moms, dads, students or the press.
Local press:
“For the past couple of years, the Whidbey News-Times paid the insurance for the Veterans Day Parade, about $200, because it was a small way of saying thank you to the men and women who sacrificed so that we may have our liberties, including our Freedom of Speech.”
Were US troops sent to Vietnam so that Americans could be free to send letters to the editor?
Is there any case in which the US Armed Forces have been sent to distant lands on a mission to protect freedom of speech?
Is protecting freedom of speech even part of training scenarios?
