Best case scenario- elected officials, public agencies, & a free and independent press work together to keep people informed.

Major political parties work together to control Presidential debates.

A free and independent press fails to question government officials-

US Border Patrol Port Angeles, WA-

Public agencies do their best to suppress information:

Secret arrest statistics are un-American

Those agencies are assisted by people with the advantage of a press credential who do not ask questions.

Still no justification provided by elected officials or the US Border Patrol for an upgrade in staff requiring a new $11.9 million, 50 agent facility at Port Angeles- an area sharing no land border with Canada.

Ask yourself- why doesn’t the local car dealership have 42 sales people on staff?

Why doesn’t the local real estate office expand to a 50 agent facility?

Imagine a school district wanting to expand staff and facilities and, at the same time- suppressing public information Re: the number of students enrolled, teachers on staff and number of students graduated in the past 36 months.

“…the Border Patrol has refused to divulge the number of agents in Port Angeles…”

Port Angeles Border Patrol- whistleblower:

“During our work shifts, other agents and I always talked about how coming to work was like the black hole, swallowing us up slowly with no purpose, no mission,” Sanchez said in his statement.

While his supervisors insisted “there is lots of cross-border activity here,” Sanchez said he and fellow agents found none.

So they spent their time driving around the Peninsula, which they came to refer to as the Baja 500, “after the car race.”

“I’ve talked to agents who confidentially expressed that they are depressed and are going `crazy’ because there is no casework to do,” Sanchez said.

Sanchez contends that his Border Patrol bosses “want to create their own kingdom. The spending is to expand bureaucratic turf, not to protect our nation.”

Sanchez refused to work Administratively Uncontrolled Overtime, for which he said agents are paid an average of $17,000 a year for a total cost of $850,000 while not actually working.”

Port Angeles Border Patrol- whistleblower update:

GAP Praises Successful OSC Mediation for Border Patrol Whistleblower

“The whistleblower, Christian Sanchez, was stationed at a Port Angeles, Washington office staffed by over 40 employees – an office where there was insufficient work for the prior crew of four.”

“In the settlement, Border Patrol admitted no wrongdoing and a spokesman says its representatives actively worked with Sanchez to find effective solutions to the situation.”

Questions local reporters need to ask:

Are fraudulent overtime claims the norm at Port Angeles?

Does the practice still continue?

How long did it go on?
