“The Washington Department of Transportation (WSDOT) estimates the road could take months to repair.”

“We’re hearing it’s going to be until February,” said Franny Sweeters, who runs the Whistling Post Saloon in the town of Skykomish. “It’s going to be a big hit to business if we don’t get the highway open soon.”

Every branch of the US Armed Forces has units that can rapidly install roads, temporary bridges, airfields, provide generator power, etc.

Maybe consider pulling the National Guard away from occupational duties related to supporting law enforcement.

Maybe pull National Guard units back from doing time in foreign lands helping the Dept. of War with undeclared/unwon wars and missions completely unrelated to their home state.

Maybe create mission tasking that the general public can get behind.

Waking Up From The Dream

There must be rules relating to contracting and various levels of government working together that would put a stop to all this. Perhaps there is no quick fix. Perhaps the US Armed Forces are not the right tool for the job here.

Still think it would be a good move to add job satisfaction for those in uniform and to create some positive public relations chemistry all across the US, not just in WA.

At 13:05 below, Capt. Lopez explains how the unit can assist local communities:
