“The Iowa Army National Guard will deploy over 1,800 soldiers to the Middle East as a part of its 5-year readiness cycle. ”
“The units being deployed overseas have been assigned to “Operation Inherent Resolve”, or OIR, working to combat the Islamic State in three Middle Eastern countries.”
“OIR is an enduring mission with partnered nations and has been going on for about 8 to 10 years,” said Lieutenant Colonel Greiner.
During the Vietnam War, US troops were sent to Vietnam.
Today, the Ohio National Guard is sent to “support Operation Spartan Shield and Operation Inherent Resolve.”
