Remember the old tradition of having your Halloween candy X-rayed?

It is still a good idea.

Before the kids are allowed to eat any candy- round them up and carpool with neighbors to the hospital, courthouse or law enforcement HQ to get the loot X-rayed.

The X-ray will reveal any needles, razor blades, or metal filings in the treats.

Is there a test for weed killer or rat poison? Ask about it.

Henrico County, VA

“Beginning Oct. 26, Patient First will continue its annual Halloween tradition of offering free candy x-rays at all local centers. Bags of candy may be brought into any Patient First Neighborhood Medical Center from 6 p.m. to 9 p.m. Oct. 26 through Nov. 3 for digital x-ray imaging.”


Franklin County, KY

“The Franklin County Sheriff’s Office will also X-ray Halloween candy at the courthouse from 7 p.m. to 9 p.m. and have extra deputies throughout the county handing out candy.”


Williamsburg, VA

“X-Ray machines at several Velocity Urgent Care centers across Virginia will be looking at something other than skeletons for once. They’ll be screening your child’s candy for potentially dangerous items. This free service will be available in select Velocity Urgent Care centers on Wednesday, October 31st and Thursday, November 1st after the Trick-Or-Treat festivities are complete. Parents can bring their kids anytime between 2:00-8:00pm on those days to have their Halloween candy x-ray’d.”

“Patient First locations are bringing back the use of their X-ray machines to scan for metals, plastics and other dangerous materials to give parents and kids peace-of-mind.”

The X-ray will help detect objects like glass, metal or plastic. However, parents still need to supervise trick-or-treat candy since not all foreign materials will appear in an x-ray machine.”
