This era goes back through the decades, back before Trump came on the scene to threaten FCC action against networks sending unapproved messages:
GWOT, sending The Troops to Iraq and Afghanistan, etc.
If elected officials tried to justify this with claims that it was for the purpose of defending American rights and freedoms, why did no newsperson anywhere stick their hand in the air and ask for clarification on this?
Why do elected officials and high level DOD civilians speak of the US Armed Forces as if they function as some sort of giant civil rights organization? Any questions from newspeople?
Don’t lie to people and maybe they would be more patriotic.

In recent years, the press tends to support government agencies, departments and policies rather than question them.

Best case scenario- elected officials, public agencies, & a free and independent press work together to keep people informed.
Asking for clarification/better info is not the same as offering up any sort of conspiracy theory.
More information is better- this is how science and medicine works.
Over the years, some people have been freed from prison based on new DNA evidence becoming available.
Are the people who took steps to discover that new evidence conspiracy theorists?
Apply this same curiosity and desire for knowledge to some controversial topics and you’ll be labeled a conspiracy theorist.
